The Sunday Times is a weekly Sri Lankan broadsheet initially published by the now defunct Times Group, until 1991, when it was taken over by Wijeya Newspapers.

Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia, located southeast of India and northeast of the Maldives.

The island is home to many cultures, languages and ethnicities. The majority of the population is from the Sinhalese ethnicity, while a large minority of Tamils have also played an influential role in the island's history; Christians in both groups are recent converts who have kept the traditional culture. Moors, Burghers, Malays, Chinese, and the aboriginal Vedda are also established groups on the island. Population, 2017 estimate 21,444,000

... and:
The ‘Bike Show’ is expected to be a popular one, especially on electric bikes (e-bikes). Once the concept and the usefulness is understood by the people consequent to the envisaged ‘Bike Show’ it would become a mode of transport like the motorcycle. The e-bike is also identified as powerbike or booster bike and is a bicycle with an integrated electric motor to power instead of peddling or which assists the rider’s peddling.

According to the capacity of the motor and the laws pertaining to e-bikes in different countries the speed could vary going up to 45 km/h or about 28 miles per hour. It could go as an automated bicycle rather than a motorcycle.

‘Dockless’ Bicycles Pop Up Downtown, Offering Transportation Flexibility:
https://timesofsandiego.com/business/20 ... exibility/

Starts:
“Dockless” rental bicycles have popped up throughout downtown San Diego in the past two weeks, promising low-cost transportation flexibility.

LimeBike, Ofo and Mobike began offering services following a memo issued by the City Attorney’s office on Jan. 24 that concluded an earlier agreement with Deco Bike did not prohibit other providers.

Adding to the profusion is Bird, which rents electric scooters.

The new services use a smartphone app to locate and unlock an available bicycle or scooter. Rates are approximately $1 per ride, with discounts for students. When a ride is finished, the bike or scooter can be parked wherever convenient and legal.

Silicon Valley-based LimeBike launched in June 2017 and is now in 45 markets nationwide. It opened in Imperial Beach last year, added National City and then downtown San Diego, with over 30,000 trips provided in the last two weeks.

In an ES Newz exclusive, this reporter attended the 32nd Annual Toronto International Bicycle Show, on currently at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds next to Lake Ontario in the west end of "town".

In 2017/last year, the President of the Toronto Electric Riders Association described this show as portending "the Year of the Ebike". Whereas this writer like to tout this as the beginning of the "Century of the Ebike". [grin]

... while last year Toronto was treated to a number of ebike stores at this show (this year they say "175+ Exhibitors — manufacturers, distributors, retailers, tour companies, clubs and others")... in 2018 it's turned into a biblical FLOOD of ebike-related products and suppliers. [GRIN] <- (Bigger grin here)

They (show management) say (in no particular order):
What is new and hot in bikes, accessories and clothing for 2018
Electric Bicycle Exhibitors

... and: "MAJOR action events and activities" includes:
"2,000 Foot Test Track — For you to experience and test out every kind of bike including Pedal Assist Electric bikes"

... w/a list including:
Allo Velo Distributor of European city bikes, cargo bikes and helmets
Amego Electric Vehicles Manufacturer that designs, distributes and retails own line of electric bicycles and scooters plus other electric bike brands
Benelli Bicycles Distributor of Benelli Electric Bikes
(Show draws for a Bianchi Torino Bicycle and an Amego Infinite Electric Bicycle)
Bosch E-Bike Systems Manufacturer of electric bicycle systems
("E-Bike Test Ride Zone")
Felt Canada Ebike Manufacturer
Fermetico Inc. with IGO Electric Bikes
Gears Bike Shop/Gears Electric (Retailer selling pedal-assist electric bikes, with "Toronto" stores now including Toronto, Mississauga and Oakville)
Magnum Bikes Incorporated Electric Bikes
Revelo Electric Corporation "Canadian manufacturer and designer of clean and efficient electric transportation technology"
Sherk Cycles "Manufacturer of custom-built e-bikes"
http://www.sherkcycles.com/

Shimano "Distributor of bicycles, fishing and rowing equipment" [cough cough]
Solorock Manufacturer of electric and folding bicycles
Specialized Bicycles "E-bikes, performance bikes, and road and mountain bikes for recreation and children"
Summit Cycle "Retailer of folding electric bikes who also has a repair shop"
Toronto Police Service Bike Team
Trek Bicycle Canada "Trek Bicycles and electric bikes"
Vespa Toronto West "Distributor of Vespa, Piaggio W E-Bike and Ruff Cycles"
Wike c/o PI Manufacturing Manufacturer of box bicycles and cargo bicycles

... and I perhaps missed some. [grin]

Motor manufacturers seen included Bosch, Brose, Bafang - 8Fun, BrionX, Toshiba... etc. The Bosch Guy at the Bosch booth estimated that maybe HALF the electrics at the show are using Bosch stuff... and I suspect he was correct...

Last day for Toronto show is tomorrow/March 4th...

Meanwhile, almost ZERO bikes parked/locked up outside this day had a battery/motor as power-assist. The ONLY/exciting bike was a conversion labeled as "Sherk" (see above).

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent was created by the merger of the historic Glenwood Post and the upstart Glenwood Independent in November 2000. The newspaper covers all aspects of the community in the mountains and Garfield County — a region larger than the state of Rhode Island. There are six municipalities in the county: Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, New Castle, Silt, Rifle and Parachute/Battlement Mesa.

The Post Independent is a seven-day publication serving Garfield County.

Garfield County is one of the 64 counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 56,389. The county seat is Glenwood Springs.

Big debate coming this spring on use of electronic bikes on Aspen-area trails
https://www.postindependent.com/news/lo ... ea-trails/

(In Glenwood Springs, those darned new-fangled thingees are "electronic"...)

Starts:
Multiple jurisdictions in the Roaring Fork Valley are going to determine this spring if they can get on the same path regarding use of electric bikes on paved trails.

There is a hodgepodge of management currently on the Rio Grande Trail, the heavily use route down the spine of the valley. Roaring Fork Transportation Authority and Glenwood Springs allow use of e-bikes as does Aspen. Pitkin County Open Space and Trails prohibits them.

RFTA manages the Rio Grande from Glenwood to the Emma schoolhouse. Pitkin County manages the trail from Emma to Aspen.

The Ventura County Star is a daily newspaper published in Camarillo, California and serves all of Ventura County.
... and:
Ventura County is a county in the southern part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 823,318. The county seat is Ventura.
Armadas of bright bikes pop up all over San Diego, attracting fans, detractors:
http://www.vcstar.com/story/news/2018/0 ... 392751002/

(EVen the English might say an "armada" is not a "good" thing? Anyway...)

Starts:
San Diego is being flooded with rental bikes and scooters that don’t need to be returned to a shop or docking station.
"Flooded"? Maybe not a "good" thing in "biblical terms" (Christian and Hebrew bibles)...

Hehe...
Cities often make exclusive deals with one such rental company, but San Diego is allowing a free-for-all partly because of legal restraints related to a previous city deal with a provider whose bicycles had to be returned to docking stations.

Includes a pic:
Image
(Captioned:) In this photo taken Feb. 22, 2018, two "dockless" bicycles bookend a pair of tents where people are camped on a sidewalk in Seattle. Shared bikes that can be left wherever the rider ends up are helping more people get access to the mode of transportation that reduces car traffic and increases exercise, but they are also producing some chaos with discarded bikes cluttering public spaces, blocking sidewalks and even placed in trees and lakes. Metro is your source for local news in five major Canadian cities, with newsrooms in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

Metro reaches nearly 2 million people daily through its print editions, website, and mobile platforms, as well as through iPhone, iPad and Android apps.
... and news from Vancouver pops up in their Toronto edition.

Vancouver startup rolls into vehicle-sharing world with electric tricycles
("The vehicles provide cover from the elements and come with cup holders and heated handlebars"):
http://www.metronews.ca/news/vancouver/ ... bikes.html

Starts:
A Vancouver startup says it has found the missing link between car and bike in the world of vehicle sharing.

Veemo is a covered e-tricycle that comes fitted with everything from a cup holder to heated handlebars. They can go anywhere a bike can, at around the same speed, with more storage space than a bike. But most importantly, users do not need a driver’s licence to ride one and that expands the market for the vehicle considerably, said one of the startup’s cofounders.

One [C]omment there:
Trustee filings show it’s unlikely that they will emerge. They terminated all 80 employees. Very difficult to put that toothpaste back into the tube. Bionx had a contract to make 8,000 Electric bikes for GM for $1,000 each but the documents show is cost them $1,400 to make each one. Balance sheet shows a $50 million negative net worth. Liquidation almost for sure. I bet other electric bicycle companies will falter as the large well established brands like Pedego continue to take market share.
