"Amazing way to experience San Francisco" Feb 08, 2018 | 960LisaA
Four of us started planning our girls trip to SF and found Blazing Saddles on tripadvisor. I had experienced electric bikes in Europe and knew this was going to be a hit. I reserved bikes on line and received a 20% discount upon arrival. We were not charged until we arrived so that made it easier for each of us to pay our own way. We initially thought we wanted a guided tour since three of us had never used an electric bike before, but after downloading the handy dandy Blazing Saddles app, we realized that we would have more fun being on our own and using the pre-plotted out tours on the app. It took literally 1 minute of instruction for the girls to "get it" as far as how the bikes worked. They are really so easy. Anticipating the SF hills, there was no way that I could make it up them, so the electric bikes were a life saver. We struck out on our own and followed the app. I had researched the area and some points of interest ahead of time, and we used Google to figure out things we saw along the way. SF is very bike friendly even though it is a very busy city. We had no problems finding our way or avoiding accidents. Biking over the Golden Gate bridge was phenomenal. We actually saw sea lions and porpoises in the water while stopping for pictures on the bridge. The highlight of the trip was Sausilto. It was a fun downhill ride into the town. We found free bike parking by the Bank on the main road near the public restrooms. The shops were super fun and the people were very nice. We lucked out with fantastic weather for the whole trip.We stopped for lunch and enjoyed the views and used the $12.50 ferry tickets that Blazing Saddles provided. I had purchased tickets for the ferry online before our arrival for $12 each only to learn that my tickets wouldn't work because the regular ferry will not take electric bikes, only the Blue and Gold Ferry will. They have different arrival and departure times. The tickets I purchased were non-refundable (I found that our the hard way) but the ferry people said that I can get my money back by emailing them??? We were able to keep our bikes for 24 hours for the $62. After the ferry ride we decided to visit the Painted Ladies and trekked out there by ourselves with Google maps. It was a little scary, but we made if fun. By the time we had done all that it was getting dark so we contacted Blazing Saddles for their late night drop off. We ended up at the wrong store. The nice young man that saw us waved us over. After he noticed that we had electric bikes he said we needed to return them to the other store. It was our mistake, but he was so nice about it. He told us how to get to the other store and said it would take us 20 min. We biked to the next light and my sister was nervous about not having lights on our bikes so she stopped to talk with us. When she stopped a man approached her and put his hand on her bike, he asked if he could have it and she just froze. It was a little scary for us Midwest girls. The nice young man from the shop came running down the block to us and offered to let us leave the bikes there for an extra $10 (this is a normal fee). At that point, my sister was upset because this man would not leave us alone. Our bike helper asked him to leave, but he wouldn't. He (the bike helper)grabbed my sisters bike out of the scary mans hands and started up the hill back to the store. The scary man kept following us until the helper shooed him away with a pretty fierce stare. We were grateful for our Knight in Polyester armor, and grateful to pay the extra $10 at that point. SO....here are my pointers: *Do the ride by yourself-you get all the time you want at each cool spot to stop *Eat our at Sausilito *Check out the shops at Sausilito *Pay attention to the ferry shedules *Bring a head lamp if you plan to be out after dark *Make sure you have plenty of battery life or bring a spare battery pack for your phone *Wear warm clothes for the bridge-it can get super windy and chilly

Consumer-direct EVELO seeks dealers for e-bike demo program:
http://www.bicycleretailer.com/retail-n ... o4JryVG21h

Starts:
SEATTLE — Consumer-direct e-bike brand EVELO Electric Bicycles is recruiting brick-and-mortar dealers in select markets for its new Demo Dealer Program.

“The traditional retail sector has received a lot of bad publicity lately. We think the negativity is unfounded and we strongly believe in the spirit and the resilience of the IBDs and other industry retailers. They are the trusted experts in their communities and we hope to work with them closely through the new program,” said Alex Stegemann, EVELO’s director of sales

For more than six years, EVELO has partnered with hundreds of bike shops across the U.S. to provide local service and repair. The company said the new Demo Dealer Program will enable EVELO to strengthen those relationships.
