Your Creation's Before & After Pics

Hi Buk_
Thanks for liking!
In fact, that right side picture actual shows the box that contains all the wiring connectors from the KT Controller, which is fitted adjacent to it on the left side!
The Connector box is actually a large hardshell sunglasses box, covered in Carbon fibre vinyl wrap, and does a perfect job of concealing the connectors, and fits great in the space, backing onto the controller.
I have posted a few more pics of the bike as it currently is. Next on the list enhancements is to fit a Suntour NCX suspension seat post and upgrade the front brake to a 203mm rotor with better brake pads.

Where do you get that carbon fibre vinyl wrap? I used black tape for some shiny parts that I could not get in the right color, but i like your solution better...I wish I would have the time to visit thailand again

Hi, I purchased all my Carbon fibre 3D vinyl wrap from a vendor on the shopping site Lazada, which is an online site very popular in Thailand, and now owned by Alibaba. There are loads of stores on Aliexpress and Ebay offering similar products.. Just do a search online.

Carbon fibre vinyl wrap is really easy to use and adheres well to many surfaces and us easy to stretch around curves if you apply some heat with a normal hair dryer. It looks great, and all the parts I have covered are around 12 months old now, and show no signs of deterioration or edges lifting etc. It's a really great DIY finishing material!

Alright everyone, this is my first post and i guess the right place to begin. This is actually my second build, my first build was in 2010. Ebike scene has a lot more resources then it did back then...

I use it to get around town and because the battery case is sealed its pretty safe, I don"t really worry if someone is going to steal the battery when i park at the store. It has a 2 mode 48v 1000w hub and controller with a 52v 16.8 ah battery that does 30 + miles of distance safely in street legal mode up to 20mph and 35mph (probably a bit quicker) in off road mode but really isn't easy do to traffic, you really have to be alert to ride that fast...

here's mine:

Before:
imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-O7dcfJ5lrNp.jpg

After:
imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-EMsMPTSZXFv0tB.jpg

Specs:

Motor: 36v "500w" rear wheel hub motor, one of those ebay kits. Works great for flat roads and commuting, which is primarily what this bike will be used for. I am running the controller with a 14S 20AH A123 systems battery for the extra volts without the speed of 48v. Using my watt meter, the bike uses around 1KW when i'm riding around.

The other reason I went with a 14S lifepo4 setup is because I have other chargers meant for li-ion batteries that are 12S. a 50.4v voltage cuoff seems to be one of those really magical numbers when it comes to lithium packs because:

1. A 12S lipo/18650 pack charges up to 50.4v.

2. A 14S lifepo4 pack charges up to 50.4v.

Try going higher or lower than than 50.4v, and you now require bulk chargers with a different cutoff voltage.

Now I can reuse my current bulk charger on any potential li-ion battery packs that I build in the future and use them on my lifepo4 pack as well.

Battery: Battery is a 14S1P pack made from A123 systems 20AH lifepo4 cells. The battery is currently pulled from the bike in this image, but I have to split the battery up into two physical pieces. One goes in a bag on the rear rack and the other in the triangle bag.

Bike: It's a 2006 gary fisher wahoo mountain bike. Nice chromoly frame for virgidity.

No battery murdering system for me, i've never had good luck using them. I constructed my battery with some low-voltage battery buzzers and fuses to protect from over-current and under-voltage during discharge. For charging, I use a ming-HE BST900W + 2 server power supplies for bulk charging and an icharger 208B for balance charging.

Bike will be used in Michigan weather, so I started by using some specialty "waterproof tape" meant to seal pipe leaks. After I ran out of the tape, I had to go back to using duct tape. I just REALLY don't want water getting into my bike parts. I've destroyed controllers that are theoretically "sealed" from water getting into them.

If you didn't clue in yet, this is a commuter bike. I ride 5 miles to and from where I work every day, and use this bike to do it.

Next upgrade for this bike will be front disc brakes. The nice thing is this bike already has the eyelets on it to install disc brakes. I'll have to buy a new front tire but hey, I have somewhere to start.

Before....lol that was just a black frame.

After.......so much better!

Motor: MAC 12t in a 24" Rim with Hookworms

Controller: 6 FET 4110 Cellman

Battery: 8000mah Multistar 16s

Goal was to create a (somewhat) stealthy commuter bike that could break 30mph when i felt the urge to. The "before" is my commuter bike from college...i used to be cool and could ride fixed gear on the flat roads of Ft. Collins, but have afterward changed over to the freewheel. (30MPH in fixed gear makes for a steep gear ratio or very fast feet :? ). Nice 4130 frame with solid front fork dropouts. https://www.statebicycle.com/collections/core-line-bikes/products/matte-black-6
state_bicycle_co_matte_black_6_fixie_1.jpg

The components came from http://www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-kits/direct-drive/9c-front-kit-basic.html
-9C 2706 hub motor on a 700C Alex rim
-35amp sinewave controller
-regen brake
-"T" thumb throttle

The battery is a beast of my own creation. Essentially dismantles qty 6 "20v" 4ah Dewalt Chinese knockoffs assembled into a 18560 15S 4P configuration arranged to accept fully balanced charging from the 8amp 4.1V dewalt charger (approx 4 hr total charge time).

The advantages of this are fairly obvious (cost effective ($200 for 56V 8ah) and supposedly long lasting)...the one disadvantage is that you have to change the charging plug 3 times to achieve a full charge (1 charge cycle per 5s stack). https://www.amazon.com/FirstPower-R...TF8&qid=1522712706&sr=8-1&keywords=FIRSTPOWER The other nice feature is that the batteries come pre-spotwelded with nice solder tabs on them.

Some pics of an alternate configuration, with a seat mounted in the cargo area, to take my brother places (or help coworkers get home after we close, etc). Also shows some of the woodwork changes, etc:

Mate, it is nice build, but u need a rigid frame for such a power!

Nothing spectacular, but here's my Scott Aspect 29er when I just bought it in 2016:

Had to add fenders as I started to use it as a a daily commuter to work:

Bought and installed a BBS02 kit from em3ev.com, very happy with the resulting performance:

As of today with new lighter fenders, lights, new "street tires" and a homemade battery box to hide some of the wiring:

I'm really sorry for that. Feel free to clean this mess, even this post of mine 😊

Not sure if I posted this here before, tried to check but couldn't find anything. I built this about a year or so ago for my wife. The theme was KISS.
