BIG BLOCK alternative Motor

wait, try what Adam recommended me this morning , hall sensors capable of higher gauss point , i think he means that can be capable of high vdc , he suggested like 466
i will try and see i think this makes sense
 
Sorry, but I'm not replacing the sensors again.

Update: Ran the Motor with the Sunwin Controller with awesome results. The bearing is toast though, so I'll have to replace it but otherwise it runs fine.

Odd the original BHT motor had a 18mm shaft at its fat point, i cut off the smaller portion that held the stock 8t sprocket

I never had this or the original BHT motor in my hands. I really don't know if it can withstand the torque. What I've here and is holding well is a LightningRod's Big Block and the output shaft (not the internal) is 12mm and can withstand a lot of abuse. Never had a problem.

I hope somebody purchase this motor and do a review. I've just purchased a Denzel D4500 and I bet it is probably the best big block alternative at the moment.
 
It's not the torque that is going to be a problem, but rather the bending force of a chain pull of many hundreds of pounds, acting about 1 inch from the bearing.
The shaft material will fatigue and eventually will break off right at the bearing.
 
i broke 1x 520 sprocket and 3x #219 kart sprockets in these 15mm shafts, shafts still intact!

(front sprockets)
 
good for me! thanks for sharing will maybe be interesting if it has low weight to a mtb frame or so
 
Think its ok but i see its an old design the price is also not that cheap it might need bearings after a few kms and the windings if pushed too hard can burn a bit but is not bad i think.
I had a motor like this before just talking my experience
 
By the way with time i had found out that motors always needs a bit of play i see many ppl just welding and bolting these motors directly to the frames and that is nasty you need to give allow the motor to have some movment , silent blocks , rubbers even inner tubes can help or a steel Mount enough big has space to alow the motor to move .

gets about the same including the shipping , some vendors do this cut the price summ in shipping :()
 
if i was you i will try the Nucular , problems solved, FOC, Square, Sine, allot of features, not buggy

this is strange because skeetab was able to successfully use the BHT w/ the KLS. but i also noticed that his BHT has a different alu case...

anyway i also tried to use my KLS w/ GNG mid motor, runs rough as well:

apparently this KLS only likes hub motors, works flawlessly w/ my QS 205:

Sounds like your Kelly has a low commutation frequency and cannot drive the eRPM you are looking for.
 
no , skeetab had allot of shuttering with the kls and bht , it runned but rough he end up buying the kbs version.
the kbs are what you need , but if i was you ill go to a nucular

skeetab had issues w/ KLS and a lightningrods motor. his KLS+BHT ran ok until he decided that the BHT was too small for his heavy moto conversion

ok i'll check out the nucular... but i'm also planning to get a denzel D7500 (which is known to work well w/ KLS controller) so i still might have a use for this controller
 
Please only use KBS with our engines. it has been tested multiples times with sin wave like KLS or adapto, never with good results due to non ideal hall sensor signal. the Denzel engine is compatible with KLS because it uses external hall, probably with cleaner halls signals, but it adds bulk and weight.
