Legends dropping like flies

So what's it like to be Burt Reynolds and to be unable to make another 'Smokey and the Bandit' movie, or the like?

Harrison Ford didn't vandalize his own face. That probably helped.

All 'cause Burt was desperate to work. Think maybe Ford learned his lesson from that?

Not every legendary person is good. Here's a recently departed scum wagon who makes me wish hell wasn't a fairy tale:

Luckily he was just one guy with limited reach. But he might have been a bad influence on a few in his department.

But dang, when I think of legends I think of a guy starting the Harlem Dance Company against all odds. Chalo thinks of----NO WONDER he's so miserable.

Jefferson Airplane Co-Founder Marty Balin Dead at 76 Hall of Famer and co-vocalist of San Francisco psychedelic rock band also founded Jefferson Starship:

Jefferson Airplane vocalist-guitarist Marty Balin, who co-founded the San Francisco psychedelic rock band in 1965 and played a crucial role in the creation of all their 1960s albums, including Surrealistic Pillow and Volunteers, died Thursday at the age of 76. Balin’s rep confirmed the musician’s death to Rolling Stone, though the cause of death is currently unknown.

Born Martyn Jerel Buchwald, Balin was a struggling folk guitarist on the San Francisco scene when he formed a band with Paul Kantner after meeting the 12-string guitarist at a hootenanny. They met up with guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, bassist Jack Casady, drummer Skip Spence and singer Signe Toly Anderson and cut their 1966 debut LP Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. They developed a strong following around the budding San Francisco rock scene, but became nationwide superstars in 1967 when Anderson left the group and was replaced by Grace Slick......snip

Can you name the winningest coach in college football history? Isn't it ironic that even the fans mostly can't.

the best part is knowing that at the end of the day, he didn't make a damn bit of difference.

And you're saying if he had just busted you then you might have been saved?

I have to admit, being valued and revered isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd like to say it sure beats the alternative, but since I never really tried it I can't say.

He played in the shadow of Willie Mays, not being the type to draw attention to himself. I'll always be partial to the gentlemanly type like Willie McCovey.

And another so quickly . If you've seen 'The Last American Hero' you get some idea how it was as Davis Pearson was getting started in NASCAR. Never a full-time ride, not even with multiple teams could he make every race. Three times he was able to take the championship, twice his team folded at the end of that season.

Oh, let's not forget the legendary, even if the camera stayed on the wrong car. Richard Petty Red/Blue, David Pearson White/Red roof.

. . . .The repartee in a Goldman script allowed plenty of room for memorable lines to leap happily into spectators' ears and stay there.

Yeah, people want to credit William Goldman with Miracle Max saying "True love is the greatest thing in the world. Except a nice MLT—a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomatoes are ripe!" Actually Billy Crystal popped that out to replace the punchline of "Coughdrops." But as the article says, a Goldman script provided so many opportunites that the actors really could come up with those things.

So i COULD tell you about Granddaddy Prescott building the Nazi war machine a d founding the first slave camp. Dubya as the front for slush money his father. I shouldn't even be saying what I could be saying. THIS IS NOT THE TIME, INSENSITIVE LIBERAL.
