So I've been getting the last bits on the bike for a nice long test ride and was able to go for a rip today. I figured out how to record the display from my laptop, but it is still a pain in the ass to ride with the laptop on the frame. The bike felt really good on the ride today, I was running it pretty hard for about 6 miles. I did a few top speed runs in which I hit 53mph :D . When I got back I connected my laptop to the bike and it looks like I triggered the temp setting on the controller because the display said that the current had been cutback, love how much information the display gives you. I felt the left side panel of the bike where the controller is mounted and it was 80 degrees F (it was 55F out)! Looks like I'll be adding some fans to the system to keep the controller cooler longer, the battery bay is getting pretty full, can you say 10lbs of shit in a 5lb bag.?

Just bought an HP stream tablet off of ebay to run on the handlebars. I don't like riding the bike without having the display for readout, or if I need to change settings. I'll either make or buy a mount for the tablet and I already have a 5v dc supply that will recharge it.

Bike is looking great and running well by the sound of it. 53mph sounds like fun to!! Pleased you seem to be having better luck with controller,looking forward to the video. :D :thumb:

Went riding today with the kid and had a blast. The bike ran great and I got lots of good pulls up the hills. Made a video with a few clips from today, sorry for the distant shots and bad lighting. Better videos to come, living the mobipus. Merry Christmas everybody.

I just got the qs205 with a sabvoton 72100 controller, cycle analyst, and throttle. Total came out to be around 900 delivered. The batteries were ordered on 11/11 (120 liitokala 26650s for $360) We're using the motor on an electric boat for a high school competition. I'm thinking about mounting a gear onto the 6 hole bolt for the disc brakes. Do you think it'll support the torque of the motor? After using the motor for the competition, I'll mount it on a stealth clone frame so it's currently laced on a 19" rim. Do you guys have any advice for wiring it? I've only had experience with a 3kw cyclone motor before and never handled anything like this.

Brakes are (or at least should) always be rated to be more powerful than motor. I think that it will be fine. Only possible weakness I can think of is that if you go hard between forward and reverse and bolts have little play in the gear those could eventually break but assuming that you don't need full power in reverse and build is temporary I think it's fine. You can always use countersink screws to get rid of any play but after a while those are pain to get out because they get stuck.

For controller wiring manual and Google are your friends and everyone who has sabvoton.. QSMOTOR site has some wiring tips. At least for phasewires and halls.

Hi,sounds like fun. Might be a good idea to check out RC groups forum especially the electric boats bit. I know this isn't an RC boat BUT a boat and prop puts the most amount of strain on an electric motor and speed controller and batteries out of all the RC hobbies...as in helicopters,planes,drones,cars...the lot...all about the drag of the water on the prop. Can also over rev the motor and speed controller buy having to small a prop...or to big a prop and heat is a major issue with model boats and the speed controllers are usually water cooled. Just might be something to keep in mind when your building or running boat. I know your probably not going to be trying to go that fast..or are you...just keep those issues in mind.
 
@joshua yo! I'll second what @ossivirt said, you should be fine. Hope you have better luck with the sabvoton than I did. Good luck with the build with both school and the bike.

As far as sabvoton wiring, it should be plug and play on the motor side. Throttle should be a breeze as well, all that is left is battery and power lock (ignition). Download the MQCON app and Check out Andy kirby's video's, he also shows you how to do the hall test which is a must.

So its been a few days since I've been home. Over Xmas I went to my parents house in central California and of course I brought my bike with me. I beat the complete sh*t out of my bike and it just took it. I did pretty much all off-road riding and was able to get some pretty cool footage (video soon). I probably did 12-15 miles of riding over the weekend and I couldn't be happier with how well the bike performed (of course there's always room for more amps) it was a nice Xmas present as the Mobipus came from santa a little early so I could get it tuned for this trip.

Notes from the trip: I need off-road tires! I'm at the point where I'm kind of tired of these tires. They're honestly kind of sh*tty on and off road. I'll probably get some proper dirtbike tires soonish. although there was lots of foam and what not in the battery bay, I need to add some better padding and possibly incorporate a mount of some sort. I think that there will be another couple of months of tuning before this bike is where I want it, but it's not far away. I think better tires, suspension, and more amps and this thing is done.

When I got back home the 7" HP tablet came in and I was able to get it set up with Mobipus software and it is connected to my bike, I just need to make a mount for it, more on that soon.

Shortcircuit911 looking good,tablet looks cool to. What wheel sizes are you running on bike? I've got pirelli scorpions 70x100x19 on the front and back of mine,look cool but I don't think they will be great on the road but off road should be great!! The rear fits in the swinging arm fine width wise on a 19 inch rim,I did have to trim a little bit of the bobbles off both sides of the front tyre to fit in the forks,not much but they just touched the fork tubes on the marzochi bombers I have on bike. Look forward to video.

damn you guys r awesome! (this was my first post on endless sphere) @ossivirt-our high school won the competition last year (it's called Solar Cup) using 2 lead acids wired in series and a crappy brushed motor. They were pulling under 200 watts from it. I joined the team this year and convinced them to switch to a 72v lithium battery and use the qs motor so we should be able to blow the competition out of the water. The local water district funded us $2000 so budget wasn't an issue. It's a 15 foot long boat but I think it'll pull less load than an ebike will so overheating shouldn't be an issue.

Not much progress on the bike since I got back home. I'm going riding tomorrow, so I'm going to hit up a few spots and have some fun as the wife and kids will be at a party. I go back to work on Wednesday so I'll start fabricating the holder/bar mount for the tablet. I also need to get going on the battery mount solution because the foam I have is getting compressed, more on that later.

What's cool about this controller is that I can have the bike charging in the garage and my laptop connected to the bike so I can monitor the voltage and not charge all the way up to 84v.
 
Having a great time in the arctic circle but when I am back we can play with field weakening and maybe get a big improvement on 53mph. In the past up to 70 percent improvement has been achieved.

Can’t get there with Sabvoton. ;)

Went riding today and had a complete blast! I also found some new places that I want to explore next time. I got a lot more footage this time so the video will be longer than the last one. Again I beat the complete sh*t out of my bike and it just took it. The motor only gets warm. It takes about 30 min to get the controller to go into stage 1 thermal protection, will probably add fans soon. When I got home I checked the tablet and saw that I hit new record highs today, just shy oh 12kw with the current battery. 8)

Going to do some editing and get the new video out as my first video of 2019.

Well not much action this weekend. I got sick and it's been raining the whole weekend which means no riding. I have a few more spots I want to hit so there's definitely more videos coming, work is crazy so it'll have to wait til next weekend.

I did make a bit of progress in the tablet holder. I laser cut some bamboo to make a holder and used some velcro to hold the tablet in place. I just need to order a 2 piece clamp to mount it to the handlebars.

Another thing I did was make a stop for the battery for the bumpy riding. It's pretty simple and made if some angle bracket. It along with foam on the bottom should stop the battery from moving axially.

So much more to come!

Late post but wanted to add the update and throw in some glamour shots from the skate park ride the other day.

So after initially adding velcro to the back cover of the tablet I quickly discovered that the velcro was stronger than the tabs holding the back lid to the tablet. Needless to say, the first set of bumps (off road) I hit doing like 15mph the tablet flew right out of the holder, but the back lid was still firmly held to the bike by the velcro. I took it home and added kapton tape to the back lid and went to the skate park, I had no major issues with the tablet. If one were to go the mobipus/tablet route I'd suggest getting a tablet with long battery, as big aspect ratio as you can find as not everything fits on the dashboard screen of my tablet, but all the vital stuff I need to see if visible. My tablet also dies if not charged withing a day, so I plug it into the wall when it's on the stand and plug it into the bike when I'm riding it.

Anyway, I had a blast at the skate park and would like to go back. I didn't know if I was going to be accepted or not so I didn't want to get too crazy with the filming. People were overall receptive. The kid on the scooter in some of my shots loved the bike and was following me around everywhere which was cool too see, hopefully he build something someday. I have some more ideas for some videos there are some places I want to take the bike, but work/personal life is very busy this week/weekend. Videos are coming though. I also plan to slowly enter the next phase of the build which would be the battery build. I have almost half the cells I need and I still need to get the spot welder and bms, so that might take some time as the ebike budget this year is not what it was last year.

Great video!! Skate park looks like fun! Took another ebike I built last year,a specialised fuse with a bafang mid drive to one near me in the summer,was good fun. The bike is looking great,have you got the chain and pedals sorted now? Tablet looks cool with that dashboard on the bars. Liking it. :thumb: :D
 
@choppa, it was fun, but the tires and suspension made it difficult. I could really use a new set of tires, these tires suck everywhere. At the skatepark it felt like the footprint of the bike is too narrow and squishy. Motocross tires should take care of that. No chain yet, I kinda don't care. It's one of those things that needs money to complete but isn't a priority (until I break down lol).

Took it for a rip this weekend in between the rain. Slowly going to hit some spots for the next video so it might be a bit before it's out. Tires are on the horizon as traction has been an issue off road lately.
 
So it's been a while since I've posted. work has been consuming most of my time during the week and the family has been getting the weekends. I have been able to get out on the bike for a few sessions in between the days it's been raining. In parallel I've been working to solve one problem, thermal management. at work I've been trying to get my team to grow they're fabricators)
so I got us all arduino kits. My first project was to get a temperature sensor controlled fan set (for my bike). The pic below shows the temp sensor glued to the small motor (simulating the heatsink on my bike)
The lcd was just to give me a readout so I have a visual when I'm tuning the software in the field.

I have also been working on making some ebike jumps/track by my house. In the pics you can see that there is plowed sections right next to the park by my house. Nobody really hangs out in that area and the fact that my bike is silent means the neighbors aren't bothered. Since it's been raining I've been really trying to carve out a track with my tires, so far so good. Little by little I'll get the jumps built and track carved out, can't wait.

I hope your guys' projects are coming along as well. Going to spend some time on the forum catching up.

Most upgrades done on mine, test rides are fun.
