la Nina rears her ugly head

Glad I got in a few good bike rides over the holidays. Forecast is showing chances for rain every day for the next week and a warning for high wind.

Here's the radar view of the main frontal band as it spproaches. Already many news shots of funnel clouds and waterspouts. Four to six inches of snow is exoected in the mountains above 4500 feet.

Been raining here (sprinkles to drizzles) for at least the last couple of hours or more (not sure when it started, but the puppies woke me up when they stuck their wet faces in mine to let me know).

Looks like it may go on much of the night, and possibly into tomorrow morning at least.

Glad to have the water...but it's cold, and this kind of weather makes me hurt worse than just about any other. :/

It was too dark to see the rain gauge well when I ran past it, but it's something over 4.5" since Friday. Most of it was today. The ground is definitely saturated now and the runoff is increasing. And some serious wind too. Rain was coming down in sheets sort of sideways. At least my car got washed off nicely.

More coming this week but smaller systems. Trail riding is going to be messy for a while.

I'd guess we got at least half an inch since I posted last above, but I think the rain is all done for now (might get more next weekend).

Pumped several thousand gallons out of the street-corner lake into the front yard in various places, though.

Since the rain evaporated on Sunday, I went for a ride in the mud. I love the fat bike for these conditions. I found that if I keep the speed down to about 5-6 mph, the mud sort of falls off the tire without plastering the bike and my back side. I could see tracks make by the lycra guys and their little pizza cutter tires. They really sink into the squishy stuff, where the fat tires just float right over and hardly leave an impression.

The rain we were supposed to get last night veered off to the south and should be hitting The fingers about now. But we will soon get our first Atmospheric River (Pineapple Express) event of the season on Wednesday.

Some scattered showers will continue today into tonight. Gusty
southeast to east winds will persist near the coast and coastal
hills with gusts to 35 mph likely at times as low pressure deepens
off the coast. Scattered showers will continue overnight into
Tuesday.

Periods of light rain continue on Tuesday but with minimal impacts
expected. A strong front arrives Wednesday afternoon into
Wednesday night. Heavy rain will develop across the North Bay
first and then spread southward, wreaking havoc on the Wednesday
afternoon/evening commute. Strong winds will accompany the
frontal passage which could bring down trees and branches. The
heavy rain will likely lead to urban and small stream flooding as
the front moves through Wednesday night. On average 3-6 inches of
rain will be possible in the hills with 1-3 inches in the lower
elevations by Thursday morning with much of the rain falling
during a short window late Wednesday as the front moves through.
