The world's lightest, 16” electric folding bike!
The-One

Half off on crowdfunding for the next few weeks. Considering it, but will likely pass.

fwiw, I think it might be using the same motor as the ahooga? https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=96536

Takes some real "inventing" skills to come up with these "concepts".

Here's a version you can buy on aliexpress right now. A little cheaper display. Could probably find another model with a better one,

Makes you wonder what's going on. Someone is getting scammed. I just don't know who. Given the claim of 20 patents, my first guess is that the Aliexpress bike is being sold illegally.

As for the bike itself, their range figures work out to about 8 wh/mile. That is super optimistic. You can get that if you significantly (100 watts output) assist pedal and only go about 16-17 mph. Commuter speeds near 20 mph will cut that range down considerably. And if you only pedal moderately, your speed will drop to 14 mph ... and I can do that all day long or untill my butt just gets too sore without a motor.

I didn't see any suspension on this bike. I've commuted on a similar sized 16" wheel folder, an old Dahon that I modified for decent road speed. The ride at around 20 mph can get a bit rough with 16" wheels.

This bike would be nice as a short distance 5 miles or so commuter or "last mile" bike. In fact, it might be great for that. But I don't think I'd like it for a very much longer commute. I road my Dahon 8.4 miles and it certainly wasn't my favorite bike for commuting. I did it mostly because I enjoyed the novelty of it.

BTW, note the lack of even a simple rack. Maybe you could hang a front bike bag on it?

20 claimed patents? I struggle to imagine that there's a single one here that doesn't represent prior art.

The bike looks pretty dumb by itself, but not a fraction as dumb as an adult human riding it.

Dont buy anything on kickstarter. You will be high and dry without money or the item.

Wait for it to be released. No, it's not going to cost double after the campaign, because no one would buy it for double. That's if it ever gets releases.

People who paid $1k for this scooter are still waiting for it.

Are you serious? Many of the most successful kickstarters are just alibaba item rebranders and resellers. How could they copy it if the kickstarter guys aren't even selling the product yet? Don't be so gullible.
Kickstarter and igg is full of liars, scammers who want to either ship alibaba goods for ignorant people for 3x the price or lie about patents and not ship you anything at all.
Unless they post the links to the patent numbers it's a big fat lie, which is the norm in crowdfunding.

That thing is such a compromise you would be better off with a unicycle / scooter / onewheel.

Don't buy anything from a crowd fund, or Sondors!
....or a department store

Now an interesting note, that just came to mind, is them Fuzz auctions for bicycles.

Otherwise stick to name brand bicycles, new or used.

Gullible? They don't have my money. And I made a guess. I didn't come to a conclusion.

Theft of IP by Chinese manufacturers is a big problem. We've recently found some of our stock images being sold in Singapore. They apparently have our original high resolution files. Electronic info is very portable and moves around the world fast and easily. They could make the bike if they have the CAD and other related files - which seems plausible if the bike is being manufactured in China. And it might be faster and easier to make the frame from aluminum (AliExpress) than to make it from magnesium ( IndieGogo). Hence sooner to market. My gut reaction might also be biased a bit by the counterfeit folding "Hummer" ebike sitting in my garage. (Not mine. It is a friends.)

But hey. I totally get that this could very well just be a marketing gimmick and that all the IndieGogo company has done is to take an existing design, have it produced with a magnesium frame, and then posture in a way to suggest that this is a product they are largely responsible for developing.

Gullible?

. . . . I made a guess. I didn't come to a conclusion.

Yeah, I don't see how expressing doubts is "Gullible." If you don't know for sure, there's no point in making pronouncements. I wonder if there's much point people continuing to puff things up at sites where people are used to the puffery.

I don't see why that bike would need a patent.

Makes it sound better to prospective customers that the bike they are slinging is top of the line in engineering that requires 100000000000000000 patents because its so innovative.

Do they really have the 20 patents, probably not because in Chinese culture, 2 is a lucky #

Thanks. Had already talked myself out of it anyways, but appreciate your taking the time to show me the alixpress version.

I've been away from ebikes for a bit, so have much to learn.

I purchased a new battery the other day, so will be riding my old 700cc soon. Hurt myself on it years back, so need to make sure the steering is tight this time, lol.

Adam Savage built his own OneWheel in the factory, his youtube channel is kewl!
@$1700USD its too expensive for me. I'd be more interested in a compact e-skateboard at a more reasonable price, or even looking at offroad e-skateboards.

Its funny because I have seen a handful of those self balancing one wheel deals, that are larger then the toys sold at Bestbuy. They are interesting. All except one I saw were all downtown Calgary. They do giver!

I can't say anything about the quality. Would't expect much at less than 1000 Euro.

But 12.5kg _is_ light.

The 20 cell battery (10s2p) should be good enough to ride enough km for short commutes. I still use a 36V 6Ah battery from the year 2011 in my bike for city rides and 30km is quite doable for me (limited to something below 30km/h, depending on battery voltage)

suspension is heavy, expensive and needs maintenance. In such a bike it is an advantage not to have it imho. But using wide tires with low pressure should help.

Does anyone know a folding electric bike that weights less or similar to 12.5kg incl a 20 cell battery.

(imho that 12.5kg sounds even to good to be realistic at that price level)

Of course I would never buy such an ebike over a crowdfunding platform. Way to many scams and this fraud is not even illegal. You don't buy a product, just the "promise" that they to try to deliver one someday. If it doesn't happen you get nothing.
