Hello

Just picked up the General Engines "pedal power" electroped electric bicycle. These were sold out of New Jersey in the late 70s generally as kits but this is a production model built on a West German folding bicycle. I'm looking for information. I currently have it running on a 12V lawn mower battery but it slips a lot and is pretty gutless on any kind of a grade. The front tire is dry rotted with a bad flat spot - which may explain some of the slipping. Do they make a flat treaded bicycle tire for use with the friction drive? Can the system be upgraded and anyone have a brochure, owners manual or instructions for the unit? Thanks

Are you wanting to restore this as a collector? Otherwise, I think you would get a more functional e-bike by buying a hub motor kit from eBay and a used mountain bike from Craigslist than putting time and money into this project.

No. I don't plan on keeping it at all. So my hope was to get it going best as possible, get some information about it and move it along to its new owner.

You could improve it by installing a lithium battery instead of lead acid. That would cost more money than I would spend on this bike. I am not sure about the tires. Are those 16" rims?
