Bayliner Conversion

I think It is easier for you to transitioning from the electric bike to boat. I come from model airplane so it will take me a while to get things figured out in real world.

The thing that worry me the most is the system reliability. I am having redundancy in almost every components. I will be starting a thread to document the project and hopefully getting help along the way.

eastgem replied to me about running the asynchronous motor at 60V and they said , no problem. found a video of the motor on youtube, it looks like a pretty good app

ive been busy working on the boat, yanked the inboard motor, removed the leg/outdrive and 40 gallon fuel tank. i think i took about 800lbs off it. then i busted 4- 8 foot long x 1inch thick x 27 inch high stringers through the transom into a bulk head 5 feet inside the engine bay which left me with a 3foot fiberglassed positive floatation pod

the boats sitting 4 inches too high in the water with all the weight loss and extra flotation but thats ok because now im cutting the roof in half and stretching it for solar panels and cutting the upper transom/flooring and pulling it back. i want to get all the topside work done then pull it out in the summer to put the shaft in and spray foam the pod and shape it once i know the waterline

ya i saw that, i put a wanted add on craigslist for broken 30 to 50hp outboards
hoping to find a 40hp merc bigfoot (big prop and 2to1 gearing) to convert with a 10kw water cooled motor :wink:

i got a isuzu 3kc1 30hp diesel with drive from a 35ft sailboat for free, the catch was i had to get it out of the keel without damaging anything. its sitting in my backyard waiting for a rebuild gasket set, had to take it out in pieces :D

solar sucks, atleast up here it does, if i got 4 panels, its only 750 watts for part of the day and wont cut it. 50 years of solar and all theyve accomplished is 22% after all the billions spent on research??? and victron cant do 72V????

so little diesel inboard to get me where i have to go at hull speed and fish all day on electric outboard was where my thinking was heading

its cold and wet up here most of the year, you need heat, batteries and solar wont do it, back to diesel cabin heaters, or small diesel motors with cooling jackets so you can heat the cabin with hot water from the motor, trying to find the right mix

that little diesel generator puts out alot of power
 
it got me to thinking about replacing the alternator with a 72v 2000??? watt alternator for charging the batteries

im looking for a controller that can be interchangeable between ebikes and the boat, waterproof, can handle 10kw max but usually only about 700 watts, can do 3000 watt continuous

a Nucular 12f fits the bill, i think you can also charge the batteries from a solar panel through it, i need to read up on that part of it.

got the ICE motors going
with the yamaha 9.9hp 4 stroke on the back idling and you go in the cabin
everything is vibrating and loud
very annoying
been watching for a 30hp merc bigfoot to convert or a Honda

got a 2006 honda bf25 hp for $50 :D

has a 2.08 to 1 gear ratio

the boat can reach 6 knots

they make 10 inch 4-blade props for the honda 25
if you go down 1 inch in diameter
you go up 1.5 to 2 in pitch

so that would be 10x14 4 blade for the honda

this will be a 3000rpm 5kw outboard conversion

the Honda has alot of room and the drive shaft can be coupled direct to the motor whereas Yamahas not so much

i think that motor weighed around 90lbs

it kind of feels like 60lbs with the motor off it now
 
i needed the crankshaft for the spline connector to make an adapter but didnt want to chop this motor up, did a horse trade for a blown block with the crankshaft

but i saw this picture of a 3kw watercooled with internal splines

5kw motor is 22.2mm keyed shaft
gotta see if it can be machined to fit with a set screw
 
boat in the marina was getting hauled out and scrapped,
scooped 2-rudders for cheap cheap cheap

ground the anti-foul paint off with a wire wheel and polished them up

found another deal, was mainly after the strut for a 1 inch shaft, its all older but brand new never used
for the inboard im down to needing the shaft, prop and dripless box

i ordered a rbx-a50 hubkit for 20hp Tohatsu prop, looks like that is right spline and diameter
the problem is ill need to hack the rubber off to see if it can be mated to a 3d printed coupler

the rbx-a50 is no good, its just a brass barrel but it fits the shaft

Turning Point Masterguard 207 is a fiberglass composite with a brass insert should work with nylon/carbon fiber 3d printed part
the prop sees twice the torque as the motor shaft. should work

im thinking of getting the gasket and photocopying it into the 3d printer and use carbon fiber to make the adapter plate but for right now, just going to use some aluminum 2x2 and plate. made a pattern with center lines so i can get started fabricating

used 2 15/64 drill bits to hold the paper in the dowel holes and a 3/8 bit as a hole punch

the plate is 6 inches wide, the motor hole was 2 inches but i think i need 7 inch width to bolt the 2x2s to the pan
 
only added 1/4 inch per side for 6-1/2", fold on line at 1-1/4 off center

it only took 10hrs to figure out how to cad :shock:
its rough but i dont speak freecad
couldnt do circles and cut out
had to do a square, enter 6 then you get six squares
had to make 2 circles at 14mm and 13.9mm to punch out the center hole

Is that your ride out of the apocalypse when the N'th covid wave comes or you get a divorce and need a place to sleep.

I am actually in the market for a boat myself, but a mini-personal pontoon with a small motor is most likely but it can't be stored easily, store up at the cabin a canoe or pack-raft for fishing. I once saw a guy in a pack-raft floating down the Bow River and he had another pack-raft for his bicycle I am like thats just cool man.

Yeah its cool man, I remember reading sailing magazines at the library years ago, I loved reading about stories of people sailing the inside passage of Vancouver Island with all the little islands.
Just the docking fee's can add up but theres a wide variety in cost, say False Creek in Vancouver would be quite expensive vs a roping up to a fixed buoy for free or dropping anchor. Sorry I don't know terminology. Biggest problem is the cramped spaces, me being 6'6" tall.
