E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Yep, I can echo what Allex said. It's a PITA setting up most other controllers these day's. If a controller manufacturer actually knows what they are doing they usually only make them for the likes of Bosch, Shimano, Trek, etc.

@TV, I didn't get a Kelly, I got a Sabvaton clone....I don't think they are the same...could be wrong.

The key is usually persistance and eventually you'll get something working. That being said, I do have one controller (cheap thing) that I never managed to figure out and is sitting on a shelf to this day. :pancake:

Cheers

Agree with you 1abv. Unless it comes pre-done from a manufacturer I don't bother with 'water proof' connectors much any more.

It's easier to just accept that water WILL get in and the important part is letting it get back out or dry out. JST's are perfect for that and they also allow some level of trail side repair. Try fixing a water-proof connector on the side of a trail.

Cheers

This is how you connect your CA to Kelly.
If you dont get a NUC prepare to have a hell soldering all this up and then configure in a buggy Bluetooth software or computer
muhahaha

Didn't forget Alex, I follow all your posts, you're a legend.

If I go with a Kelly controller I think I'm just going to dump the ca. I don't think a Kelly controller, and a ca like each other. They're like two beautiful women in a small room. Also seems like too much redundancy. All I really need is a display that tells me Speed, milage, and battery volts.

Your Majesty, if I may make a suggestion. Me thinks you're doing it the hard way. Why not use ready made water proof plugs like these, and solder them to your wires?

I'd buy a Nucular in a heartbeat, but FJB won't let me. That bastard won't be around forever though, I just hope the company can survive till then.

This is the air conditioning equivlent of an eBike motor and controller. The black part is the controller. It mounts directly on the motor. They used to sell both parts separately, but now you can only buy them as one piece. The controller is supplied 110vac, and converts it to 3 phase dc to run the motor. The controller gets a 24v signal from a board in the furnace that tells the motor to start, and what speed to run. The part that always fails is the controller, usually a capacitor, but since it's potted, you have to buy the whole shebang for about $2000 with labor. I have to charge a lot because I have an eBike on my back. In 40 years I've never tried to repair a single motor, I just replace a bad one with a new one, and call it good, gemmy da money.

Hi is it dangerous to use a front fork with quick release for my 2000w motor? Should I get 2 torque arms for the front fork?

 I wouldn't run a quick release fork on an ebike that went more than 25mph and weighed more than 40 pounds.

I findly made a high level executive decision. Since I can't get a Nucular controller right now, FJB, and so far I haven't heard anyone raving about how great a Kelly KLS7218S is, I decided to contact Stealth. Tech told me they still have controllers for my 9 year old bike, so I bought one. I can install a stock controller on my bike as soon as it gets here, and be back on the road in time for the best part of the riding season. This seems like the path of least resistance.

Rix the cav is actually really waterproof. I put some diletic grease on the phase and the jst connectors for the hall sensors no problem at all. Actually the big problem was the brakes. I had to replace the front brake pads and re-surface the rotor. The pads totally glazed abs no matter how I cleaned and sanded them no bueno. The controller held up pretty well also.
TV that is def the path of lease resistance. I called them to try and get an upgraded controller, mine is the old school 4500 watt version. They told me there is no upgrade path. Sux but oh well.

Thanks Tom

Yeah, we both have the same 65 amp controller, and in all these years no one has heard me cry babying about a lack of power. At least until I had no power LOL.

I basically look at the difference between the stock controller, and the KLS7218S as, one is a 65 amp controller, and one is 80 amp. I'm guessing that means the phase amps are a lot higher with the Kelly, but I don't understand it enough to know how much more.

If you are worried about the shipping of NUC I might know a guy who might know a guy. This how we get stuff here to Europe, and after that to US.

This is what happened. About 2 weeks ago I tried to order from the Nuc website, and I immediately got a reply email that said,

"In the near future, we will send you the pre-order number.

Have a nice day,
Nucular Team"

Since then I haven't heard anything. Maybe you can find out if this is normal?

This is why we cant have nice things.
