Wow

That is a beautiful ebike valy.
Awesome photoghraphy, too.

I instantly recognise the type of motor, but what kind of batteries are you using?

Congratulations on a sweet looking machine.

G'day guys,

I don't have any before pics, but here is some shots of my daily commuting beast:

http://www.spectrumimages.com.au/ebike/

Originally bought from Greenewheels ebay shop (looks to be no longer selling?) Like a Wisper 905 I think

New Halo freedom disc front wheel, shimano M775 hydralics on the front, new Easton bar and stem, new shimano bottom bracket, Campy 53T crank and Drivelive chainguard, new SRAM chain (needed 2 to make one long enough)

Headlight is 900 lumens, can fry a chicken at 20 paces. This thing is as bright as my car's headlights, 10W LED, runs of 9 to 50V so works fine on my 14ah 36V Li manganese. Have done 3300km so far commuting to work and back.

E-bikes are GREAT. I used to ride motorbikes for years, but I get more joy from this bike right now, get my daily excercise on the commute, it's faster than my car in the Sydney peak hour traffic, I can take bike paths and shut down back roads and leave the cars for dead, no boring stop start driving in the stressful traffic..

That's brilliant.
I wouldn't have thought that a rack would be strong enough to mount a motor to but evidently it is.
I apologize, but what voltage are you running?
Did you think it would be as fast as it is?
What voltage and gear reduction would you use if you wanted a top speed of 30 mph?
What are the downsides of using a motor like this? Is it durable?
Have you done any long rides or do you intend to?

GeoKrpan - sorry for the long wait, I must have missed your post earlier. The rack is actually a frankenstein in which I combined a cheapo walmart seatpost rack to an eyelet mounted rack. I JB-welded the Turnigy's cage onto the rear rack and used a u-bolt for extra measure. Both the hybrid rack and JB weld have held up really well.

A few folks have asked how I keep the chain tension, how i fix a rear flat, etc. I actually have a chain tensioner built into the rack now and posted some pics below. This gives me plenty of slack to remove the rear wheel in case of emergencies and helps achieve precise chain tension that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I also JB welded the throttle to my cross brake levers.

my 2nd eBike Project:

bought a new GT Avalanche

bought a 48V 1000W conhis kit and turned it into this

25280624003_large.jpg

and then repainted it and put the battery into a laptop hardcover backpack.

does only 10-12 km on the old 10Ah battery pack but speed with pedaling is 57km/h and the new and stronger battery pack is on the way

ebike project #3 is running

ordered a 48v 500w kit from Conhismotor to use my old 10Ah battery. don´t really want to go fast on this one so for driving in town the 500w should be enough. still waiting for the motor to arrive - it took conhismotor some time to find and get a 4.25" inch 20" rim and i still can´t imagine how they can get the big DD motor in a small wheel like that :?

G'day Dingo, I paid $1400 originally with 14Ah upgraded 36V battery, base price was about $1100 I think with 10Ah, this base price ranged from $990 to $1200 from the ebay seller in Melbourne: Greenewheels. His shop seems to be closed, as it does do from time to time, but this time it seems to be closed for a longer time..

Bafang brushless geared motor in the rear hub, sold as 200W. Twist throttle and pedelec as well, cruises at 30km/hr, I get a good range from the 14Ah battery. I think these batteries are Li Manganese, 10 cells, balancing BMS on board.

Had one hall effect sensor in the motor go short at 2800km, which I fixed, and had a BMS failure at about 1600km, one of the TO220 FETs desoldered itself, dropped a couple of cm and soldered itself to the other side of the board, was very confusing trying to find the fault for that reason!

Apart from that no other electrical troubles touch wood, have now done 3450km.

The original BB was WOEFUL on this thing, luckily I got a pretty standard 123mm shimano cartridge bearing BB to fit, needed a new crank to do this as well, which I didn't mind, as the original crank is also pretty naff.

Just occurred to me, your chain tensioner appears incorrectly placed, you have it on the
tensioned side of the chain, a chain tensioner is meant to be on the slack side
of the chain.

AJ, good eye. I goofed up in the photo but i've since put it in the right orientation - you can see it in my vid post. Thanks!

Magneto!
it looks a real nice designed e bike the bafang is so small you can hardly see it behind the gear cluster, enjoy the ride

This is not my first eBike; that is another story altogether.

Well, I finally got around to documenting my first ebike: What got you into ebikes/EVs?

And now you'll know the rest of the story... :? :)
