7000w bmx plans
alright the plan is to run this motor http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/stor ... oduct=5139 with the 160a castle creations esc. My question is what lipo batteries would you guys recomend?
Re: 7000w bmx plans
Easy, turnigy lipo. Zippy/flightmax work too. Buy a few extra, sometimes you get a bad cell (not often, 1 extra should do)D-Rock920 wrote:alright the plan is to run this motor http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/stor ... oduct=5139 with the 160a castle creations esc. Seems like 5s/6s 5000mah are the most popular choice round here, I went 8s 5800mah to minimize the "rats nest" at a slightly higher cost
Re: 7000w bmx plans
how long of a run time could i expect with light throttle with a 5000mah battery?
Re: 7000w bmx plans
You haven't given enough info to say, but most likely less than 10 minutes... At 160 amps, less than 2 minutes.
Re: 7000w bmx plans
well i want to run the motor at the 48v range so i would need to go with more than one pack, i was hoping to at least get 20min. im just building the bike do thrash around infront of my house maybe right it like up to 10 miles if thats even possible now.
Re: 7000w bmx plans
You want about 1kwh, so 6 of the 8s 5800mah packs in my case. Around 20miles wot, 30 plus with pedaling. Lots of people here run like 2kwh too, can always add more later.

With most of my riding on dirt I find about 500wh of power gets me just over 10 miles

500wh is great when you've got a front hubmotor. If you're building something that drinks up amps by the hundred, 1kwhr seems like just enough to get started.magudaman wrote:With most of my riding on dirt I find about 500wh of power gets me just over 10 miles
Each carcinogen vapor exposure includes a dice roll for cancer.
Each mutagen vapor exposure includes a dice roll for reproductive genetic defects in your children.
Each engine start sprays them into a shared atmosphere which includes beings not offered an opportunity to consent accepting these cancer experiences and defective genetics life experiences.

Re: 7000w bmx plans
I have a hard time finding hills big enough to burn up my 1kwh pack in under 40 minutes and I do not run a torque-less hub motor. I agree 500wh is not optimal but for a starting point it seems like a good sized pack for most.

If you hurry there are some good deals at HK for LiPo... on sale for a few more days. Check this thread for a direct link to the sale w/some example prices...D-Rock920 wrote:My question is what lipo batteries would you guys recomend?

I'd start with at least 3 5000mAh 10s packs (still on sale) to get 10s3p, or 4 5000mAh 6s packs to get 12s2p, but you want to know something about your gearing & top speed to choose the right voltage too. With the CH 160HV you can NOT go over 12s LiPo, or you will burn it up. Even at 12s you will have to take precautions, so 10s would give you a better margin of safety. With the right gearing that motor would work on 8s too. Several of those 8s packs are on sale at HK too. IMO, you need a minimum of 10000mAh of battery time, otherwise you risk losing or damaging a lower Ah battery like 5000mAh. You would get very little thrash-n-play time on it on 5000mAh

Have a blast with your build & thrashing around...
