Tablet advice - iPad or Android?

Its one of the more oval dishes if that makes sense, you can use a normal round dish though it will still work, the real trick is in getting the LNB right, there's loads of info online on how to do it, this was made from a bit of copper tube, some old plain copper PCB etch board and some stiff copper wire.

Its amazing how much forward gain you can get with just the LNB, we got about 2 miles line of site with just that, you also need to get the angle to the dish right its just trial and error, the access points we used had signal strength LEDS on the back of them which made it easy to adjust.

You can make a very high gain antenna out of junk basically and then go looking for free wifi

Yes that is my major concern as well, If I leave my connection open then anyone can download anything through my connection and it would be my computers and hard discs that get taken away for months should anyone use my connection for something dodgy, its not just the porn image worry they tend to swoop now on anything, the usual bit torrent abuse, offensive twitter posts, looking up bomb making and other terror related activity will also lead to every piece of web access equipment including televisions, phones you name it being impounded.

I am so savvy when it comes to net security and general online privacy, I don't use facebook and only follow on twitter yet I still had my identity stolen and 30 thousand pounds of debt ran up in my name from something as simple as my girly putting my 40th birthday in the local paper! from that they knew my date of birth, they checked up on the net to find out how long I had lived in my house (thanks land registry) they got my phone number from an online service that still hosted my number even though I went ex directory 5 years ago, with this basic information they then simply forged a few utility bills, used a fake or stolen bank card with the same initials and surname then went in to loads of shops, applying for store charge cards with all this information, the trick in all this is that the stores don't check the card to see if its valid and if all the credit checks run through OK they will give you credit instantly and let you walk out of the store with the goods on the day!! you don't have to wait for the card to drop through the letterbox?

It took me ages to sort it all out, so you can be as secure as you like but often its something offline that will snare you.

Anything that gets to be popular gets locked, there must be great financial incentive. The Note I was viewed as an outlier, but as soon as they get popular, whack.

Android has a great app set and more coming daily----

If you dont like google you can use firefox...i like google personally because of the weight they have with developers----etc... but i have a IMAC at home----- and an android phone that i used as a GPS to locate my claim corners in NV and AZ.....

I'm officially an Apple hater and will not buy any of their products again

I was happy with their stuff in the past. Until the IOS6 came out - now I can not sen emails nor post on FB and forums. The problem is intermittent and common to other users. Sounds like they have changed the encryption algorithm on wireless protocol.

The reason I hate them is more to do with the way they are handling this issue. I spent over 10 hour on the phone with them, resetting the settings on the device, restoring the firmware.. etc.

The 'senior' advisers I dealt with are incompetent. One of them suggested I replace my modem (with my own funds) because "apple is a technology pioneer and everyone should follow them". When I asked to speak to his supervisor he told me he is as high as it can go. Total BS.

Your lucky, the Nexus 10 inchers sold out in 30 mins, the Nexus 4 phone went in 30 mins too, I had 1 in my basket 3 times but it bombed everytime I tried to pay, now they are out of stock I like the idea of a completely vanilla distro but would want a custom rom on the phone if they ever come back in stock.

Multi View update is sweet. Had to wait for someone to put it in a ROM, since the update wouldn't apply to my rooted device for some reason.

I'm itching to get that 'Photo Sphere' functionality from the Nexus camera (Android 4.2). It seems to take some of the Google Street View technology to allow phones to make image 'quilts'. So frickin cool.

Got my Nexus 10 and am blown away with it's screen and speed. Even though I only have a "g" wireless router, video streams without any lag. All though I have been using MSDOS and Linux for years this is my first Android device. Looks like they have got it together. People have been bitching about their lack of apps, but they have everything I need and more. GPS on a 10" screen is awesome. If I didn't hate Apple so much, I would almost feel sorry for them. You should hear the Apple fanbois whine about Nexus on the reviews.

No problem with missing flash as I sideloaded it and then installed the Dolphin browser. Now my LA times is ready to be read every morning at 5:15 AM. I was paying $68 (for 8 weeks) to get it delivered.

This, with a Freedompop hot spot and I'm set to cruise the www anywhere there is cell service at no cost, just so I stay under 500mb a month. Which will be easy as I will only need data when I'm on the road and don't have wifi available. Add in my <$6/month tracfone and I'm in touch no matter where I go.

I know I could have bought a good smart phone and had the same results (on a smaller screen), but I'll be damned if I will pay those outrageous monthly charges.

Two thumbs up to Samsung and Google.

My wife liked the I Pad so much she bought the I Pad mini, so now after two years I get to use the original I Pad. I rarely get to use the laptop or the desktop at home, my daughter uses both at the same time.

I have an ipod touch 4th gen and used it for about 18 months very happily. I still use it when I want extreme portability, it's a slick device. The rest of the time I use my Nexus 7 which I've had for about 8 weeks now. I won't say I'm a total convert to Android, mainly b/c I am pretty committed to itunes and have all my music there, but I'm really liking the Nexus. Also, it's a steal at $149. I bought mine right before the cutoff where you could apply to get the $50 refund, so I paid $199, but I don't even care. It's totally worth $199. If it had an SD slot it would be absolutely perfect, but I haven't found a need for more storage yet even with the 8 gb model.

I think it's asinine that the newer tablets don't have SD cards, but I guess it was a good business decision by the manufacturers.

The way around it is getting a wifi hard drive.

Also, some new tablets will have USB OTB (On-the-go) capability. My Note II has it and you can just use it like a connected flash drive. HDDs that get power from the USB might have a hard time, but self powered HDDs and flash drives can help.

I will not buy a device without external storage. (One of my main reasons for not having an iPhone) This is another:

You are going to be one happy guy the first time you use that GN2. If you're only used to physical keyboards (original droid?), going to a soft keyboard will take a week or so, then you will start to prefer it.
