G'day all,
Two firsts here an ebike build and a bit of posting.
What a great resource we have here, seems like I got on a bit late as I got some bits then started poking about. Not the first to do that I see, anyway were going with what I got with upgrades to come.
48 , 1000 conhis hub
Gm controller
Nice discrete twist throttle.
12/ zippy and turnigy 6s 8000mah to make 3 48v 16a packs
Getting a hitec twin port charger that will charge 200w either side
Also bought after I found they existed a x2 400 dose 400 watts either side, there not released in au though, (wtf)
In the hope of charging a pack, have one charged ready, and one installed.

The motor came in a 700 rim and I ran that in a giant boulder 29er. (That lasted a week then went and bought a susspention job )Nothing was getting even warm really, compared to some of my fast rc models I have clocked flying past at 280 k so I'm quite impressed as to how efficient these things seem to run. I'm hoping that dont change to much as I'm getting the hub laced into a 29er rim. Any gurus got some thoughts there? Might I have to buy something lower kv or rewind it? I have my fingers crossed that its not to bad as am only making space to carry four cells. My first dilemma was how to hold the thing up to work on it.

My idea is to have the batts two in front two behind the seat post with the speedy under the bar in the triangle
The two in back in a hollow mudguard type arrangement. Better hop to and do a bit. Please let me Know what ya think.

Quick question,
Can I power this with something out of the gm controller?
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17179__6_LED_Strip_RED.html
Five volt to power up.

Goodies arriving shortly
Tourqe arms and a disk spacer made from unobtaianium
Apparently I was very lucky to get some.
I have a friend who runs a laser to make saw blades, he has copied a patten i made from ply.
They are made from bizalloy?? At 4.5 mm, seems it needed to be of that thickness to allow for the disk calliper, so a disk spacer of the same thickness coming too
He's going to do some more for me from saw blade steel soon as they have a spare corner on a job
I'll post a pic when they arrive, I wonder how my wheels going? And where are my battery's!!!

My spokes ready to be picked up thanks for the call guys, glad i rang
And tourqe arms for Africa!

Painted my spokes at work last night, looking forward to fitting the wheel to see if the tourke arms fitt up ok.

Half in half out controller cooling plus more spaghetti room inside

Still making battrey/ controller compartment, been a bit of a headache fitting it all up so its still removable, might be worth a progress pic tomorrow. Got some more batts, a charger, and got my hub in the 29er rim. Old mate down the shop had 2 goes at it he cut the spokes for a three cross patten after I told him I had read it won't work cause of the diameter of the hub , so he had to cut and rethread the spokes again and then slapped it together 2 cross, still with a reasonably acute angle so the spokes have a bend in them! Think I will order some more black spokes now I know the length and ream the holes out a little with a chainsaw file to get a better angle. Have a go at it myself. Actually my mate who did the tourqe arms for me said he has done it heaps on motorbike as he used to work in a bike shop, so it's bin a bit of a drama so far but still progressing.

Spent the day working to make both the zippy s and nanos fit. the zippy s are shorter fatter packs, to wide I've decided, can't get any shape in the guard, will look boxy enough as it is and is already 140 accross so I pulled it off, to play build the top again, hate that. Anybody need 4 6s 8000 zippy packs?

Very much so. My aldi frame build appears to have an almost identical frame. Do you mean some kind of goldenmotor controller?

Are you from oz? Pls add your location to your sig.

Hi Ozjet

I'm interested mate

I posted my own build thread up a few weeks ago and no-one answered at all which was a bit demoralising.

With 29" wheels it should be pretty fast.

I like your battery mounting solution, although its quite high up it does get it out of the way of your legs for pedalling

What adjustments are you making to your suspension to deal with the extra weight?

Would be very interested to see what your drivetrain is going to be as this is what I'm scratching my head over on my own project

Please post pics of your tourquearms when you've got them on they look pretty cool, I think you've made the right decision to make them so large, when i was looking for a frame to build my ebike I was worried that the motor tourque would tear the rear triangle apart on most full sus bikes that I looked at

Ha, I'm in bendigo.
It is a golden motor controller, not real big hope its up to the task.

The 29 should make it quicker, I am a bit worried though, it did have a 700 rim 28 inch on it and was cool running I hope the bigger diameter doesn't make it work to hard. I can only relate it back to one the planes I fly a multiplex fun jet, set it up with a 4s 3300mah lipo I had a 4.1 x 4.1( diameter, pitch) prop on it made it do around 60000 rpm I think 280 k an hour, really good fun to fly. I broke the prop bungee launching it one day and only had a 4.7x4.7 to try, that just made everything hotter, and it was slower.so I'm hoping I haven't blown my efficiency with the bike. Doesn't seem to be to many 29ers happening. Re the Tourke arms I hope im not going to be stressing the swing arm where they finish, I will put a little round on the end so it isnt bending left and right on a hard 90 degree edge and use a bit of this scrap grey nylon plastic stuff I have to put over the swing arm before I bolt them on.

Greets from Ballarat. Lemme know if you're ever 'down south'.

You would've seen a few 29's on the last group ride. Worth talking to user Revbecca about the Gm controller limit - they are the local importer and top tweakers. Winkinatcha is also a Melb retailer and can help with larger controllers. Or drop Hyena a msg.

Most of us don't do 29 inch on the back for DD hubs due to the lower initial torque on those motors. And for a bush basher frame there is more emphasis on burst torque of smaller rims than top speed for larger rims. I'll be running a geared hub at about 1500W on mine with a 26 inch rear for torque, and a 29 wheel up front. It's called a 96er - or if you ride it backwards it's called something else.

Come on a group ride and see what is possible.

Cool, I will definitely get down for a ride one day, I'm itchin to get this thing mobile, I was just reading a bit of your stuff on your build concerning the wideness between ur legs and giggled at hyenas suggestion of a bow legged clown riding a uni cycle, mines going to be 150 minimum there from the seat post 200 mm out, so I got it of the block and had a quick squirt, and I don't recon it's going to be a problem. Will be the go I think to run this for a bit and get to see what is about and upgrade this bike as I can afford to, I still have the giant boulder there so I might put this kit on that and flog it.
Thanks for th links and stuff great info, thanks very much.

:)

Worth getting a turnigy wattmeter in line for about 30 bucks. Voltage sag and amps will tell you a lot about how much you are using and what you have left to upgrade.

What battery config do you have now?

I got 6s 8000 nano techs got eight of them and four zippy packs that are just a prick of a shape so I recon I won't be able to use them they will just make it all to boxy
Going to run 48v 16a 2s 2p
I have a watts up , got it ages ago for my planes, I ran it on the boulder with the supplied controller I got the kit from from motion dynamics it was pushing bout 1300w.
I don't know if I've done the right thing here or not but I'm going with a speedict on this one I've had it ordered for weeks, seems the guy is just redesigning them, it has a make legal button that you dial in on your phone( it's a Bluetooth gadget that goes inline) shows amps watts ect , I now realise you can dothe same with the ca, Mabee I should have got one of them. He is shipping this week apparently .
You had any drama with the fuzz with the bikes?

No, theyre focused on the local toothless kids on stinkybikes. Because you are so silent they figure you're harmless. Most days I head to work in my suit so they dont blink.

Keeping your lipos small enough to keep it still looking like a bike is key.

Still not worth a picture, this would have to be the hardest thing I've built, and Im not all that happy how its coming out I've decided to make it big enough for the fat zippys and the longer nanos, so the shape sux a bit but I took it for a ride before and it don't get in the way and should be mixed up in my legs to not be to noticeable when I'm on it, except for the big fat mudguard. Better have a bit more thinkin mixture and another smoke.
I recon its going to be quite stealthy
F22 radar avoiding type :|

This is the first build I've seen with the batts that far back. There's perhaps one on here, just never noticed.

*If you want some ideas*:

Lots of folks go in the triangle with a bag (such as Falcon EV) or hard structure:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34039

Some go as panniers:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41409

Some over the front bars in bags or toolboxes from bunnings:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=38218&start=75

A favourite would be Timma's cut and shut weldups:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=38799

And I really like this solution, both for looks and center of gravity:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42924

I only have to packs rear ward.
You can hardly notice it I recon. Erm......
I'm looking forward to taking to it with the rasp to see what comes out
But you never know those links might come in handy, thanks
Got the motor in today and fitted torque arms one good , the other side was different so I had to cut and shunt it. So that and other stuff going on I'm not as far forward as I would like to be, oh the new cluster turned up today so that's on as we'll
So the gearing should be ok now with an 11 on the back

Yeah I reckon the filing will look good.

I always seem to leave a bloody link. Feel like a teacher leaving homework, but Stuart's ride over in Melb might give you some ideas from his pics.
Cheers.

Do you recon the weight is going to a problem?
I initially thought it would be good to have a mudguard.

Well, I shaped it up and it blows.
Needed to put a bit more foam round the leg area to make a decent looking shape, and that's debatable :? and its too wide
So needs a half a rethink
Back working for the week then off for a bit so looks like it gets a bit of a spell .
The speedict mercury turned up today after some last minute glitches with its design so looks like,I might be ginea pig for that, anyway got the new one, hope it works well.
