Great video Greg. I enjoyed that chill out music :)

I was a little disappointed that i couldn't ride in to work this morning my self, we had rain then snow then 28F! So i didn't risk it and was later glad sure i didn't when i nearly crashed the car on black ice where i would normally ride the bike. :shock:

i'm basically running invisible now, dressed in black, no lights, no reflectors execpt some strips on my new "Gore Bike Wear Men's Fusion GTX Gore-TexGloves":

there's an inner layer and i can insert my hand on the palm side for better grip, or top side for more warmth.

they're ok, but honestly i preferred the grip of my leather army surplus gloves with a wool liner, and they mighta been warmer too, tho prolly not as waterproof.. that looked like this:

Good luck with the lacing. I tried lacing my first motor into a 26 in rim but failed miserably and had my LBS lace it. If it isn't too late, could you make a video on how you lace your motor? :mrgreen:

thanks for the wheelbuilding link. i've got a couple decisions to make on how i dish the wheel to fit in the offset dh comp triangle.

for the hs3540, i flipped the rotor, so the extruded side is on the disc side and i ran ALL spoke from the drive side to pop out the disc side:

in the first 100 miles i had some truing to do, and you've seen how i've bashed it. but i've not touched it for a couple thousand miles (and a fire). :pancake:

but the h4080 rotor has no such extrusion, is wider, and i got half the spokes 2mm longer for the drive side.

using moonshine's pic of the JRH laced prowheel, i matched the lacing, but backwards... with my disc side to the left and his to the right. and now i'm reading the instructions about the pulled spokes - i like that better than trailing - should be inners? can't remember just now, but i'll go back.

much more valuable than my lacing for folks will be the spoke and washer measurements, which i'll post up. for MC wheels, i think his washers and, well, nipples are tight. :p
 
so i'm lacing ala jrh - same pattern - and gonna hope the 2mm extra spoke length will allow me to dish it enough.

once the pattern is established, it's just a matter of continuing it for each set of four all the way around:

i've seen others put all the spokes in first, but i don't see the point of that. they just slip out as you rotate the wheel, for me at least.

here the spoke are all very loose, attached just with one turn:

I wish I knew about those $35 alum. rims before I bought mine and had to pay $90 to have them anodized. :( However I wanted to go with a 18" moto rim so I guess I did ok anyway.

Those washers are called belleville washers and come in all sizes. I think I'm going to use two per hole with one inverted in order to gain a bit of spring which should help tensioning the spokes

Looks like you are multitasking in a very big way. Making videos while lacing a rim, captain patience is at it!
Thanks for the tutorial. I now know that the spokes that I ordered with the rim from HPC where too long. That would explain why I couldn't lace my motor.

that is very disappointing, tho only logical. why i suspended my disbelief i can't explain, except to reason that if TOPEAK made them they should actually work!

i guess i'll just have to layer the underside with gorilla tape... :p

i do wonder if mounting it as close as possible to the tire will help. my little homemade front fender has done an amazing job of keeping the water from spraying up, and perhaps because it's so close to the hookworm that it rubs on big bumps...

no. i only hear wind when the shock cycles, and other bike noises... haha.

if i remove the coil, how should i cycle it? toss it back on the bike and push on the swingarm?

as far as the dh comp rear triangle offset, my rim is 2.5" wide, the frame @ the rim is 3.75", so if the gap is 1.25", then a gap of 5/8" per side would be more or less centered. so should we say the offset it 5/8"?

or, since the frame is still angling in at the rim, would it be better to measure the offset further up, at the bar where the triangle ends, where the tire would rub if it were 29"?
