Buying Ebike require Feedback!!

Post by canadien » Mar 19 2014 9:02pm

Hello guys, I am planning to buy the ebike with the link below let me know if the price is fair and if it has quality components..
This ebike has 36V battery with 500W power and 20AH rating; so, is this a good deal at $1800 all included or is it too expensive?
what is a fair price? is it much cheaper?

Oddly, zero hits (except yours) on a search of ES? Quite a few promo positive hits on a google search however. Zero info on the sellers on their web site. Some might find these circumstances odd.

As a cyclist the first red flag for me was the lack of specifications on the bike ... that is enough for me to walk away.

$2200 for a generic china ebike, not a good deal. Don't let the idea of buying a kit that needs to be installed put you off, it's easy and can be done in an hour.

Here's a popular kit. Mac 10T geared rear hub at 50V. You can get the whole kit and a great battery (that is also triangle shaped in you want to mount in the center of the bike) for $1200. That leaves you plenty of money to buy a bike that you actually like and actually fits you.

BTW. "792 posts were found" (first message possibly back in June, 2009) currently on the "meetup" online forums for the Toronto Electric Riders Association (now a Canadian Federal Not-for-Profit thingee), in a search for the word "Daymak" (a long time seller that "EbikeUniverse" may be selling for/representing in the same big town ("city", aka also maybe a "provincial backwater" full of "yahoos" drinking Electric Koolaid) as the OP of this thread.

Original Poster in this thread is possibly unaware that the Toronto organ exists? Somehow...

Agreed!! That bike is certainly not worth the $2,200. And there's no way that's really a 20Ah battery.

Jeez, at that price you could almost buy a new iZip Metro E3. The older models were a sweet ride (it's the ebike that popped my cherry) and the new one looks even better.

Image

If I were in the market to buy a new bike that was premade, it would be one of these. The battery is the perfect place and the frame mounted basket and rear rack will handle some fairly decent cargo. You could even put a seat on the back rack and transport someone. Components are all name brand: Shimano gears, Avid brakes

And Currie is a well known and respected manufacturer of ebikes. Good warranty and service. My wife bought a used demo Zuma from iZip, burnt out the motor pulling a trailer after a year and they replaced the motor/wheel free of charge.
Get a Cycle Analyst and a Multimeter, you're still a noob if you don't have at least one of each.

IMO the best deals are closeout ebike from dealers. Bought 2 this way. A2b metro at 25% off now stromer at60% off.

Seems like a very reasonable price of 2000 for a mid drive. Do they have a larger battery option?

Their sales guy Tony says it's coming. Within a month. I didn't feel like waiting. There will be 450 watt motors instead of 350, and a larger battery. I didn't ask him how much larger the battery would be.

Hmmm. Still no sign of ebike seller "canadien" (oops... correction, potential Daymak ebike buyer), but while we are waiting, seen here:
http://www.novatorque.com/aboutus/white ... _paper.pdf

In part:
In all cases, torque is the result of force applied at a radius. In all motors, the radius increases directly with the increase in diameter of the motor, resulting in a linear increase in torque with diameter solely due to the increased radius. Also, in a permanent magnet motor, the available
force is directly proportional to the flux-carrying capability of the stator. So, as diameter increases and the amount of flux that can be carried in the stator increases, the torque of a motor will also increase.
Maybe brings motors like the Magic Pie to mind... (Look Ma! No gears to strip!)

Hi everyone I'm new (post one) but super interested. I've already got a couple of good links from this post. ESP. regarding prices. Anyway ahead of myself.

I am a total newb, and I'll do my best to "fix" my profile so you all will know where I'm at, basically I've had two test drives. One was on a Giant "Twist" I think, and an IGO BB. In retro spect I wished I had just bought the Giant on the spot, for the IGO at 350 W (100 more than the giant and advertised as more torque) was not near the bike in many ways, the Giant did in fact feel more powerful, with less advertized watts, and was smoother, quieter, much better bike in many ways. Sadly they apparentyly are not making any more ?

Trying not to "babble" I basically want to know if those links provided to chnese companys are legit...has people ordered without incident ? I've seen an interesting kit advertized, but the price difference is unacceptable. I mean I'm all for supporting local business, as I sell metal detectors myself, but the mark up is no where near what I'm seeing.

In particular I'm looking at this (which I know is severly over priced) http://www.e-bikerig.com/e-bike-kits/

So I'd much rather got to the source myself. Like this https://www.greenbikekit.com/

I'd like to know of this is a good company ?

Hope I didn't ramble too much for a first post.

OH BTW should mention that I am capable of 20-30 miles a day by myself, I'm looking for light weight / more range / and some "help" on hills, I don't need a Stealth bomber.

Thanks,
Rick

No, not interested in either of those, but did look at that company as seem to have best prices, however when filling out the "KIT' form it seems you have to select all 3 battery types...so that's messed up. I guess one could email them.

Thinking I like the motoers that GBK sells and still want to know if anyone has ordered from them ?
Absolute cheapest price is not most important deciding factor.

Rick, Do not waste your time and money dealing with Chinese distributors. You have a fine site in Canada, Golden Motors Canada. Magic Pie II with a 48v 10 ah battery for less than $900... And you can trust this guy...http://www.goldenmotor.ca/categories/Ma ... r/26-Inch/

Thank You Joepah for the "serious reply" I was begining to think maybe this place was not so serious with that first reply showing me what he did.

I will check that out. I do believe in my web surfing I did see that "magic pie" term before. Besides with better weather coming fast, quicker shipping may be worth a few bucks too.

Thanks again,
Rick

Sorry Joepah, don't want any "magic pie" either, Canadian company or no, Regen braking is just code for "don't coast for sht". Like I said in my beginning post I can already travel 25-30 miles no problem by my self, I just want some help to extend that range, and maybe some help on hills.

Again I really like the bafang motors with the wire coming out beside the axel, not through it, because the wire through axel looks like a VERY weak link, at only 5/16 to start with. Hollowed out for a wire, nope not for me.

As well not interested in regen braking.

But thanks, and I guess I should say I'm NOT completely dismissing this, just I do have a pretty good idea of what I want, just want a simple answer of ..if someone has ordered from the GBK company ? Furthermore I'd like nothing more than to help local economy, but when they want to "gouge" me for 100% mark-up, I have a problem, as I also stated I sell metal detectors, and I make an average of 15, and at best 20%. If some American, or Canadian company was satisified to make a "reasonable profit" they would probably actually end up making a fortune. Greed (one of the seven deadly sins) always gets in the way.

I'll keep shopping.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend you. I have limited knowledge in the Ebike parts game, as I have just purchased my first bike in fifteen years. I just went turnkey off the shelf, as I wouldn't know where to start building something from scratch. I couldn't pick parts out from that site for you, so thought I'd just send you the link for you to have a look at. Keep me updated on what you have picked out, I'm interested in how you put it together.

I wouldn't go with a 10AH pack on a 1000w system. 15AH 48v is much better.
