I've been asked to write a review of a Yuba Mundo.

http://yubaride.com/yubashop/

This is my first e-bike and it's funny how one leads to another. (More on that later)

First, this bike is a real brute, I think out of the box it weighs about 70 LBS
I am 6'4" and weigh in at 240 to 250 LBS, my 3 year old son is about 40 LBS and direct drive front wheel w/ battery, another 40 LBS. Add an ice chest, a bunch of kids toys and a few tools, we are over 400 LBS.

The Mundo seems to handle this weight well, except it is no hill climber.
5% to 7% short hills (100 yards+ -) are okay, though you'll be peddling in 1st gear.
Beyond short hills, I think the motor would get too hot.

We live in a Southern Calif. beach community, so most of my riding is on flat ground along bike paths. I can maintain 18 or 19 MPH.
I just got a CA, later I'll have more info.
The bike is powered with an Amped Bike kit with a 36 Volt 20 AH battery from Ping.

Okay, the small print stuff......

If I remember, I paid about $1000.00 for the Mundo (early spring 09), I think the price has dropped since then.
The guy I dealt with at Yuba is named Benjamin, nice guy, communicated well and fast shipping.

Ping battery was about $600.00, shipping was very fast and he communicates very well.
Absolutely no complains about his product, except price.

Amped Bike Kit, Price about $400.00, performs well, cheesy connectors, communication, just okay.

More small print stuff,

If I had it to do all over again....

18 speeds, instead of the 6 I have..

Up-Graded brakes, stopping 400 LBS requires allot of brakes.
Too bad Yuba doesn't have disc brakes.

Job rated kick stand.
I have the one offered on the Yuba site, however, this bike could use something better.

Battery, I should have ordered the battery in two parts.
Having the lowest center of gravity is more important than I thought.

More later.

all-in-all, you like it though? I remember you saying something about it maybe a month ago.

Finally figured out how to upload a photo.....

Yeah, it's not easy...I hope I remember how for my next upload..

Nice looking bike/rig... I was wondering what you did to upgrade the brakes? I have a similar situation w/my brakes. Also, it may be good that you don't have disc brakes, since your hub motor doesn't (I don't think...) support disc...

Also, what are your tires? They look big and beefy!

Again, Good Job!

About the brakes, I took it to a local bike shop, they did a few small adjustments, now the brakes are pretty good.
I can lock up the rear wheel, at 400 LBS I was very surprised.
Version 3 Mundo is disc brake compatible.

Tires are Fat Franks made by Schwalbe, no kidding, they are beefy!

The biggest drawback to the Mundo in my estimation is the "one size" frame. That only works as intended if you are close to average height.

The time finnally came Version 2 Redone.

Controller Type: 9 fet 30A (36-72VDC, IRFB4110)
Motor Speed: 255rpm loaded @36VDC 10T Upgrade with thermal couple
Rear Wheel Type: 26" Alex DX32 CNC
Throttle Type: Thumb
Ebrakes:
7sp 11T Freewheel
V3 Cycle Analyst Ebike Computer, CA-DPS

Lots of component upgrades, also lots of custom upgrades.
