The life of the peripatetic ebiker

Ummm... While hoping to set up one stop off place on the Electric Road out of Toronto, in the news currently "Ancient Gladiator School Discovered in Austria", I expect lots of places, but seen here:
http://www.livescience.com/43709-ancient-gladiator-school-found-in-austria.html?cmpid=556728

So, would be right to be offering classes in ebiker "self defense"?

Just curious!

Ummm... Speaking of ebiker "self defense"...
Police.jpg

... Just in case some folks may not know watt I was referring to.

How about bad grrrls (and boyz) get a not-too-nasty shock if they touch the metal frame, etc. (Warning sign on the bike of course. Well, perhaps just the sign might deter some.) Say, 50kV (and about zero amps).

File this maybe under "State of the Ebiker Nation" circa early 2010:

Sorry. Just am dropping this pic as a cc. I labeled this copy "How I roll". (Note in the pic the recharging vehicle *plus* laptop. ... and the sunny day western sky above and picnic table, and errr... other stuff. Or etc.)
This while on safari (and obviously returned safely after this overnight visit w/artist friend), to the deepest dark western reaches of civilization where the horseless vehicle runs rampant, the little (not any more) burg of Brampton... or Bramalea... wattEVer it's called. Do wish I could remember ebikers on that way. Sorry. (again)

Ebiker seeks truth:
Project.jpg

On the right, one lovely Victoria-era pedal-only antique bicycle, currently owned by an injured Carbeerian shipmate. (Bike sold new by local national chain of "outlets", branded "Nitro XT", and "FS Mountain".)

On the left, the German-Americans.

(One Hammacher Schlemmer design "recumbent tricycle", frame coloured orange.)

Project is to see whether half-dead crazy/mad ebiker can transform said "mouse" into "the mouse that roared" (wanna better finishing in this summer uphill race, among other stuff eg pulling fat tourists around).

Short-term, xfer front wheel (w/hubbie motor), bettery(s) (Li of course), CA V.3, leather toe straps, etc., etc. Much to do (Worst case, vehicle is fairly unique in local burg, and might be sold in near original condition. Hopefully).

Current email exchange w/ebiker in the USA:

PJ>What are you up to these days? Any brainstorms recently?
PJ>Regards!
PJ

Hi P!
I am Well, thank you. (Still only half-dead, apparently, according to right side of my body.)

Up to/brainstorms these daze? Well, last year, that uphill race thingee. Hopefully to repeat this summer coming (12 noon race start). As of this date I see ten intrepid ebikers have announced they are to race this Saturday July 12. So already about equal in number to those racing last year.).

Up to yesterday, my focus was on cleaning up the property (including access driveway, shared behind 4-5 properties just 3-4km west of Brimley Road South, where we raced up last year - and oddly enough, none riding a traditional Victorian-era pedal-only bike/trike, doing their traditional (?) uphill trudge/huff and puff, lugging their vehicle beside them.)

Last year I hadn't thought about an after-race thingee, hence my thought to have a back yard lawn party this year. (Try Giggling (sp?) the WWW for the phrase "2014 Toronto Uphill Bicycle Race" - yah, more advanced promo for the EVent this year too.)

While promo'ing the race this year, in mentioning the after-race party, my thought to discourage... some from coming:
1) In any messages/mention of the after-race goings on, casually note it is a COSTUME dress "get together" (style of clothing optional).
2) Casually note as well that I have invited police Ladies from two nearby Toronto Police Divisions (Guys can come also.)

Might fence off the property such that admittance is limited to a max number of persons at one time. (Access/egress only at one point.)

Day before yesterday, a crew showed up to clean up back yard garbage on vacant property next door, after receiving a letter from our City (that I may or may not have had something to do with having prompted - cough cough).

Problem? I am told by absentee landlord that our City folks also sent a letter TO THIS address, with similar comment about litter on the property needing cleaning up. I have already removed many bags of weeds and other garbage (property in a MESS). And was continuing to empty out the run down detached wooden garage full of moldy "garbage" (that the Landlady had already told me I was welcome to do for her).

So then the Land Lady (plus her husband) show up (re City letter) and he proceeds to throw garbage BACK into the garage, replace the board baring the door, and asked me to stop with the cleanup and to not enter the garage again. :(

... and told me I am to receive an eviction notice to move elsewhere.

Seemed a shame to clean up the property and not put it to better use?

So my thought, to have a weekend "campout" for kids next August. I have already spoken with the Mum next door, and she indicated very positive interest in the idea (she had one youngun grrrl w/two older brothers).

Anyway... Nutshell? The landlord has... messed up not only an after-race lawn party, and the cleaning up of their own property, but also a childrens "campout" one weekend in August. And I now have to write area politicians, police, etc, etc, that I have already invited via emails, to amend the location for the after-race get together.

One day has past where my Landlords told me they would deliver me two things:
1)cc of the full letter from the City.
2)Eviction order pour moi.

Still waiting...
L

(Other stuff re my current living arrangements, but thought this sorta ebike-related. Somehow.)

Ah ha. Know I had a pic of the "scene of the crime"... (My trusty Canon PowerShot A490 not 100% yet. `Been falling back on daughter unit-supplied BlackBerry "Dumbphone" - first had to figure out how to switch off annoying "phone" ringer, but still makes for handy-dandy pocket-sized camera device. D Unit had just cut off wireless telecom, so had to download/figure out BB Decktop software to xfer from BB to laptop instead of via email attachment.)
Backyard.jpg

Anyway... In the pic, leaning over old detached wooden garage, now slightly less full of mouldy "junk". I have just bought myself a honking great tent (local supplier Canadian Tire, one of these:)
http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/escort-tent-with-screen-porch-8-person-0765186p.html#.U3SxCmd3s1I

... so plenty of room for desk/laptop/working, and sleeping, chairs for guests, etc (has "contractor grade" HD extension cord from house. So small heater, music via internet, email, etc.

I know I have to move it but really was learning how to assemble the new thing (before needing/using it while "roughing it". Turned out to be a handy-dandy location for me to nap in "closer to the action".

Immediate foreground, my borken electric trike from last year. I no longer trust the thing (see broken wrist mentioned earlier), and frame welds have broken apart a lot faster than I though it would. (One local supplier sells the antique, pedal-only version as the "Park Lane Tricycle":)
http://www.barriebicyclestore.com/products/comfort-bikes/2013-park-lane-tricycle/

Apart from the frame falling apart, mine has added a front wheel hubbie and under back basket 48V 10Ah Li. Max 25kmh, which is sorta whacky as it rolled over sideways at less than one kmh on a grassy slope?

Near ground, my new "Hammacher Schlemmer cheapo trike", as mentioned:
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=57408

At present I am still familiarizing myself with its ops, but have to explain to folks some of the things I intend to do to make it "street legal" in Ontario (currently limited to sidewalks and off road amusements, and as fast as I can pedal, about 2x ped walking speed, looks like).

TBA

Another "scene of the crime" pic this morning (next door property, after owner and crew does a "garbage cleanup" - into a too-small trailer, pulled behind a too big truck (hehe). Broken plastic chair was apparently on the next property, next door.)
1669KR_cleanup.jpg

Owner of next door property had still not appeared on their property to serve me two things:
An eviction notice (pour moi).
A full Engrish (sp?) language cc of the letter from the City (re my own (tenant) property.

So all still on hold. To the list of things mucked up by owners/City add:
I actually was employing disadvantaged youth (per bag of root plant "trunks" collected. Can of beer per bag. Hehe.)
Moldy garage and house/property still full of "stuff". Much from tenants long gone. (Garage roof still full of holes.)

I am now refraining from mentioning any August kids camping etc party, plus less than eight weeks to uphill race after-party next July 12.

(September adult toga/pajama party not mentioned to anyone at all... yet.)

Mad old disabled ebiker struggled downtown to visit our provincial government (folks in offices downtown) last week. Came away w/just this printout.
Phoenix1.jpg

App to register new concern "Phoenix Ebike Promotions".
... as a FOR business "sole proprieter" under local laws.
(For tax purposes. Gawds help me.)

First of month, had... moola in pocket wallet re registration, arrived and filled out form, and pocket then found empty.
So some activities curtailed for... 24 daze (over three weeks).
Anyway. Phoenix (Ebike Promotions). Ya heard it here first folks.

Kinda note along the way of life...

This morning pedalled/staggered the long way to downtown old Toronto City. And back again, as day wore on (Inter-city/cross-town travelling).

To catch our local Govs troops early. And walked out their door with paper registrating/ tax-ersizing/nailing down the biz name "Phoenix Ebike Promotions".

Hence PEP.)

So. Some mad old crazy ebiker dude might think to themselves:

"Lotsa costs eg recumbent cruiser trike conversions, etc, etc, now tax deductible as biz expense."

(Insert huge grins here. Wee dram perhaps involved.)

Oh. And UPDATE PLEASE. After race EVent noon on July 12 this summer very soon now relocated to other area one block away, where Kingsbury Crescent ends eastbound and Harding Blvd. starts north/away. Said un-named grassy sliver of Toronto Region Conservation lands/lawn only 40 feet from beach on other side of fence. (And near 300 feet up.)

(Really good view of Lake from thingee plus view of huge full moon that night.)

(And Oh! (Again.) Also, today fired off email/broached the idea of money-making partnership in ebiker-pulled tourist rickshaw biz. Call it, PEP-related. Biz experience for youth, Summer-time bux/play money, etc.)

Go Ebiker Rebel Nation!

Oooops... let slip elsewhere, another EVent plotted, but involving maybe 1/2 my 6-7 million neighbours. Anyway... tourist sight-seeing `round town via slow-speed "zeppelin" modern style lighter-than-air travels (solar panels plus small Li-flavoured betteries to spin electric motor-spun propellers of course).

The "GTA Zeppelin":
http://gtaecoflyer.freeforums.org/gta-zeppelin-f3.html

(Another sideline re that rickshaw biz.)

:( Have been unable so far to interest 99.999999999% of my earthly neighbours in free rides/tickets on first trips.

The gawds work in mysterious wayz...

I just got BANNED from ES for one week. Sorta unfortunate, I guess. I mighta already said in that ES thread somewhere (the thread titled "Phoenix Ebike Promotions":)
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=60564

... that I have just registered (June 30th just past) as a "sole proprietor" for tax reasons, and the thrust of that thread is to offer folks a way to make urban travels by the bettery-electric (sp?) motorized thingee waaaay more fun and practical than the gasoline/diseasal (sp?) horseless carriage from the 20th-century (for private use in urban environments).

So in my time away from ES, I started to re-create PEP (Phoenix Ebike Promotions) here:
http://www.freewebstore.org/Phoenix-Ebike-Promotions/

... but I hope it's waaaay more fun/productive to get any feedback from the denisons aboard Alt.Reality Planet of ES?

Sure didn't expect somebuddy from Chicago to label that thread as "spam"!

(Also just added one message here in the thread "The Ebiker Joke thread...". Sure hope THAT thread isn't somebuddys idea of "spam"? -Apparently that thread now seen by over 11,000 others here? Anyway, again, sure hope not re "spam"!)

Anywayz.

Re that "freewebstore" thingee, I'm left kinda wondering whether I should bother to continue that there? I mean, I *know* at some point I must "jump ship" and leave ES folks alone, but really only hope to get ideas/feedback about any stuff that could be added to the options of products to offer for sale? (In addition to "good" stuff already sold by other ebike retailers.)

So, ANY feedback (send me a PM) MOST welcome about my efforts at trying to startup a new ebike biz. I have spent some decades as an accountant, and EVen my long-term clients no longer trust me to "do their books" (I don't EVen trust myself anymore).

And currently I am on "disability support" from my neighbours (local/provincial gov), and I HATE the thought.

It's not in my nature to take stuff from ANYBODY. (But I rather enjoy GIVING.)

So my efforts re PEP, is my way of trying to give back to the good ppl of ES. Don't really expect to make any "serious" $$$, but at least to cover my costs. (And like my friend George would say, help "SLAY THE fire-breathing DRAGON".)

Cheers

Lock

Errrm. Recently on ES, one corrected my spelling ("battery", not "bettery").

One word for today might be MEME.

So stuff like "bettery" and "Stinko-Mobile" (TM) and "fool cell" and "diseasal" etcetera... all *memes*. See my new effort re "PEP"/"Phoenix Ebike Promotion".

So these are all words and phrases designed to be entered hopefully into the "lexicon" of urban travels.

(Sneaky guy eh?)

"This pretty launch is the very perfection of a pleasure boat; no heat, no smoke, no dust, no steam, no smell of oil, no splashing of pumps. There is no noise of any kind to be heard save the bubbling of the water from the propeller, and the faint hiss caused by the commutator rubbing against the brushes. There is no smell, and no "blacks;" and the boat will run for six hours continuously, or about forty-five miles."

Copied and pasted into ES Feb 2012, from an English/Euro 1883 magazine.

By me. :)

So ah... `Been reading old stuff I posted on ES.

Watt's sorta nice (and might continue to "stand" online whilst author cavorting with daisies).

At least one in my ancestors was a writer whose books can still be read online.

Just one as eg:
https://archive.org/details/cihm_13045

... in 1895?

So I might encourage you dear reader as have wandered into this online den of Rebel Anarchists to at least "carve your initials" (post) as having passed through here at one time.

Now back to regularly scheduled amusements.

So. Current efforts for PEP trying to inundate neighbourhood with the Hammer Schlammer (sp?) recumbent trike rentals (with Phoenix Ebike Promotions - "PEP" - offering conversion kits eg re BLDC motor w/Li batts, etc), Trikes flying sails w/rental biz contact info plus ads from other area... coffee suppliers, etc. (Trike w/assist can also pull tourism rickshaws.) Currently having to "fight off" SILLY "concerns" re "new" pedal-only trike rental biz (on another forum).

YAY! The term "Stinko-Mobile" now bottom of Page One using Giggle (sp? Hehe). How to "mess with The Man". Hehe

Engrish word "diseasal" now top/first for Giggle search! YAY! (and sorry if any misspellings here)

Earlier in this thread once "(watt was then Olympic-class Tornado) catamaran (20-foot two-hulled relatively "high speed" sailboat).."
Getty_Tornado_cat.jpg
and:
"toodling around Toronto harbour at 2-3 times the harbour speed limit"

Hehe... in EBiker terms, I "had an assist". In both wind and vehicle design.

When I trailered boat to Toronto many Clubs in area had no room for catamarans. (Cough cough)

A new Federation of daysailor/cruiser boats in the cities new "Outer Harbour" (see Leslie Street Spit.) ... with nice parking lots incl. at new Toronto Catamaran Club.

Where establishment conventions were... twisted a bit. Hehe

Wet and soaking sailors walking around in neoprene skin suits (for warmth. And peein' in `em, rumours were). Dragging boats. Etc. (Ahhh... the thrust of a good tiller Hehe Strap on a good harness)

And again, in EBiker terms, "new tech" was not universally "liked". (Or always entirely legal hehe.)

But local police understood "cat" crews were risking all in any collision. Which made our high speeds much more prudent. So safer for all others on the water. (Same with EBikers I figure.)

Here endith biblical parable (as far as others with ebikes has had to live with fear and ignorance about a vehicle (vessel) they love and enjoy that's maybe branded as "cheater bike" or "not fair".)

Rock Posted 5/28/15 2:09 PM:
From the Consulate-General in Toronto: On May 29th 2015, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will visit Toronto during their State Visit to Canada. (ED: Majesties of the Netherlands aka "Dutch".) After visiting the Legislative Building in Toronto, to meet with the Lieutenant Governor and the Premier of Ontario, the Royal Couple will travel on foot (weather permitting) through Queen’s Park to the MaRS Building at 101 College Street. The Royal Couple is expected to leave the Legislative Building at approximately 11: 30 am. Queen’s Park will be available to the public to line up along this route.

Gonna be there. (Weather forecast looking 100% right now.) To ask them to help Canadians (re their Euro "Electric Pedal-Assisted `Cycles" that in 2012 was already by that time estimated at ONE MILLION on their (much more "bike friendly") roads and pathways. This while "car addicted" Ontario towns pass laws to ban/restrict our power-assisted bicycles.)

600_438028284.jpeg

"Wheelchairs" get front row of course (cough cough - the rest of the "crowd" behind fencing). And early this afternoon shook hands w/Majesty (him) AND (insert forehead slapping here) didn't slip him a card from a local ebike store so next time they can do trips like this "Dutch-Style" (w/a Canadian kick, wattage-wise).

highres_438028290.jpeg

SOMEWHERE in there the royals approach the MaRS... So... "first contact" but from a veritable SEA of folks on these visits. Sadly about zero EBikers about.
