Gods of the Ebike

John Kemp Starley (1854-1901) was a British inventor "regarded throughout the world as the inventor of the modern bicycle."

a contemporary of Michael Faraday.

Extremely fitting that Inductance = henries and capacitance = farads!

I see my superpower - the ability to kill a thread - is as strong as ever.....

Problem w/this thread maybe? Must get harder and harder to add any new (that have not already been recognized/mentioned here before). And EG "Up-and-Comers" (not yet dead) only on Ones to Watch list.

Agreed....I'd say Tesla was the most recent one, and he's been done to death.

Benjamin Franklin, who laid the groundwork for our modern study of electricity.
Joseph Priestley who quantified the work of Franklin, Watson, and others into several books that later were used by Volta and others in their research. He also laid the groundwork for Coulomb 's General law with his observations of electrical force closely following Newton's law of gravity. He also laid the groundwork for Faraday with his observations of current in the air between electrified points.

And for Demi gods of Ebikes:

Ding! DING! Master Benny (Benjamin Franklin) named near top of first page of this thread.

(OK, new rules here - the "V" word (Volta) mentioned here prev. also. From now on, limit one name per post please.)

(Hehe...)

OK. Full marks for Joseph Priestley, inventor of soda water (among other things. (No biographer noted any middle etc. names,)

Corporate History
1877
Anderson Power Products began when the company converted an old brewery in downtown Boston into a foundry. One of the first projects was to cast various parts for the Boston Trolley Transit System.

Product development and inventions such as the trolley pole, invented by Johan M. Anderson in 1890, put us on the map. The trolley pole was used in the overhead system of electric railways, providing a simple compact, efficient and durable supporting mechanism. APP received multiple awards for the Anderson brothers’ innovative trolley and railway designs.

1953
An inventor by the name of Edward D. "Don" Winkler, working for Albert & J.M. Anderson Mfg. Co, filed a patent for the first Storage Battery Connector (SB®-2). The introduction of the SB-2 saw its roots in a request from industrial fork lift manufacturers for a more robust connection. Variations on this pioneering little two-piece device have powered everything from forklifts to wheelchairs to golf carts. It has evolved numerous times and been imitated even more. Even today, companies are still "introducing" their own, often inferior, versions of Winkler’s invention from 50 years ago.

Our Storage Battery connector saw a number of different iterations in the 50’s and 60’s, including the single piece SB50 design which featured the extra-high heat resistance of General Electric’s Lexan material, the single piece SB350 with four different voltage keys, and the SB175 with contacts that were now made of pure copper (replacing brass contacts). During this period, the SB connector had gained wide acceptance in the forklift industry and had for all intents and purposes replaced spring-loaded button contact and pin/socket contact technologies.

So, "Johan M. Anderson"

Thomas Davenport (9 July 1802 – 6 July 1851) was a Vermont blacksmith who constructed the first American DC electric motor in 1834....more at Wikipedia. Surprised we almost missed this one as the legacy granted here to ES goes through this guy.

Yah, Tom. (I understand some still keep egg beater-type devices under tables/outta sight. Fearing patent lawyers may be lurking.)

It happened at their farm shop, intersection of Vermont State Route 73 and Route 53 (map).

Gosh, just up the road a bit, so will have to plan a trip there. Near Middlebury College, home of our friend Bill McKibben. Let's set the date at 1834 (note). OMG, I may still be alive, if Guy McPherson's prophecy doesn't come true first. The 200th anniversary of the invention of the electric bike on 2034, a world convocation, in conjunction with Middlebury College! We'll invite Bill to be the keynote speaker. Or maybe Guy instead if its his world we'll be living in. Whatdayathink?

Master Rabbit! Of course! (Pic of him maybe in bad old "alkaline" primary zinc/manglese (sp?) daze.)

EVen then already looking a bit... tired.

Just starting to watch the film "Einstein's Big Idea", cc'ed to Yeetube (sp?). Seems it ain't about Elsa at all! (Hubby Al). Vid from NOVA, so I suspect will be "good".

Anyway... First on their list Michael Faraday (other than the Elsa-Al tag team) AGAIN.

Ed: Sir Humphry Davy gets LFP another DING DING DING (Winner, in this thread).

Awwwww... (Life is sooo unfair.)

DANG. ANOTHER Bunny died?

Et aussi, Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze (1758-1836. Married Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier.)
