The SB Cruiser : Amberwolf's 2WD Heavy Cargo Trike & Dog Carrier

Very cool to see the 1960s style three-speed hub in use. These shift only when coasting as I remember. They were THEE thing before the first 10-speeds came out. How much torque can be put through them I wonder?

    Hill Climbing Assistance

Just another perspective - I run a trunk bag on top of my panniers with an extra battery inside (along with tire patch kit, tools, gloves, etc.) Side benefits are that battery is pretty much waterproof, cushioned and insulated...

    Hill Climbing Assistance

This is actually one of the best features of the Bafang 02/HD mid-drives. Maybe not so much for off road riding but for country cruisers like me it's a blessing. A pedaling type of cruise control. I can ride 40-50 miles sometimes and never have to touch the throttle or assist levels. I...

Budget "Supermoto" build - DH MTB + BBSHD + Slicks

I always thought (and I could well be wrong) that the shock reservoir is mounted on top to be sure any air bubbles stay out of the shock itself. ...and just to spur some thoughts, this is the way I stabilized my BBHSD. I thought about installing a Rivnut but went with a pair of hose clamps.

    Hill Climbing Assistance

It should be mentioned that mid-drives eat up chains and cassettes/freewheels. Even with lube every 100 miles or so I change chain and freewheel just about every summer (1,000 miles). It will tell you when it's time (violent teeth skipping under heavy load).

Device to shut off charger at a pre-set voltage?

Interesting piece of hardware. How you would even find something like that is bewildering. (Aliexpress - heh! Price for me shows 99 cents. Bet that's not the price at checkout.....) Careful using with fast chargers. I use Luna 80/90/100% 3 amp chargers for most of my charging. I occasionally...

Deep dive on battery resources used in e-bike vs EV

Just for a conflicting point of view (I don't own an SUV): Many parents want a larger, stronger vehicle as to be seen and protect their family better on the road dominated by pickup trucks, vans, semis, etc.

    Front axle weight capacity?

Pffft! I get my ebike life (52v) confused with my vanlife (12v) sometimes. I was in vanlife mode this morning..... Sorry about that.

    Front axle weight capacity?

I'm a bit confused. A 100 ah LiFePO4 battery is less than 25 lbs. How did you get to 75-90 lbs?

    18650 capacity question

You should be able to find your cells in the database to see what their original capacity was - https://secondlifestorage.com/index.php?pages/cell-database/

??! Magnetic field on 18650 lithium-ion batteries improves them!?

My induction heater (strong magnetic field) would fit an 18650 perfectly but I'm assuming that's not what they meant.... chuckles.. (It does make me want to do a field experiment though.)

    Cheap build opinion

...and that's my point. "Can be" but how do you know until you own it? Sure, there's some confidence when buying Bafang or other known product line but when shopping on the inexpensive side you just don't know. My inexpensive builds have been with a 1,000 watt 48v direct drive hub motors. I've...

    Cheap build opinion

That's my problem with geared hubs. I've always used direct drive hubs for the quiet. I'm sure there are almost silent geared hubs out there but how would you know before you buy?

I want an electric bike, can you recommend one?

    ...and what is your budget?

    Newb planning a touring build

Just an FYI - I have broken a couple of chain rings due to high loads when in my lowest (and most miss-aligned) gear. https://endless-sphere.com/sphere/threads/lekkie-rings-failing-on-bbshd.120034/

Electric Pallet Jack - can I power this with an E-bike battery

...and remember this is max continuous current. Most of these 100ah batteries will provide surge current close to 300 amps.

Electric Pallet Jack - can I power this with an E-bike battery

I would think a 24 volt LiFePO4 battery (100ah?) would work well. Just be sure to use the LiFePO4charger, not the SLA charger.

Battery fire that should have happened

I had drained it to 0.0 using a 120 volt 150 watt spotlight bulb. The pack was dead when they got it and this WAS the recycling center for all electronics especially batteries for the county. But like I said, this was quite a few years ago (and their fire was years later).

Battery fire that should have happened

BTW - That local county recycling center had a fire that leveled several of their buildings a year or two later. They're not sure what caused it but are blaming it on lithium batteries. I suppose the real bullet I dodged at the time was that my nephew had a CitiCar I could have. I think it ran...

    Are framework laptops any good?

I retired and closed up shop a few years ago so I'm probably out of touch. (I'd never heard of Framework before now.) ..and yes, I run a couple of Linux machines. Mint and MX. Even though Linux runs the Internet it isn't accepted at the consumer level except by a few.

Battery fire that should have happened

I've repaired computers for many years. (It was my business.) There was a time period when almost all laptops had the removable rear battery pack. That pack unusually consisted of six 18650 cells and a little BMS board. It wasn't uncommon for one or two cells to fail which shuts down the pack...

Any tips for neatly wiring up an ignition?

That's what hard drive magnets are made from and no, they won't shift at all. In fact they are used to hold the whole battery on to the bicycle with Luna Wolf Packs as shown in this post. The mount screws to the frame and the pack just snaps in and out on the magnets. I always thought this was...

    Are framework laptops any good?

I'm not sure what bothers you about the prominent suppliers of laptops today (Dell, HP, Toshiba). They haven't soldered RAM in many years. (They used to do that with the absolute cheapest models.) Screens, keyboards, drives, fans, etc. can be changed in minutes. Late model used laptops that...

Motor cuts out when starting off

Ummm - This! The controller could be looking for wheel movement confirmation, not getting it and shutting down. Install this sensor before going further.

EM3ev vs Luna Batteries and Kits

Which for me is one of the reasons I run two packs in parallel. I usually only charge to 80% except when balancing and can still get a 75 mile ride. IDK - I used to think maybe I should have been charging more to 100% to better balance the pack, but @bww129 did that and still had the same...
