The age of cheap Chinese stuff is ending in the USA?

I don't know about what others are doing to cope with an uncertain future but I have purchased all the bits I need to build what I intend to build. That will get me through a couple more years of building ev stuff. After that IDK.

Buying a rear ebike wheel with casing only

Yeah, it's not all that difficult to lace a motor into a rim. I used Grin's spoke calculator, ordered the spokes from them, and watched their video. Elbows out and single cross on 3 motor wheels to date. Haven't had a problem with the wheels, at least not yet.

    48v or 72v or 96v ?

I believe there is a USCG 48 dcv limit for watercraft, with any higher voltage subject to additional regulations. Just something stuck in my mind.

The age of cheap Chinese stuff is ending in the USA?

To bring back our industrial strength to what it once was would be a herculean task, and at the moment nobody is up for that. Being an-ex mariner I have noticed our miniscule shipbuilding/repair capability. That doesn't look good for us in the event of some future naval war.

Your Creation's Before & After Pics

The finished bike from a couple of posts ago, with an experimental controller/battery cover made of roofing rubber and tape (i.e. stuff laying around): Did a test ride up the steepest hill I would ride. The front wheel tended to slip on the steepest part of the hill, but the road was wet...

    Noisy spokes

I bought my son an Adventon Pace 500 quite a few years ago. After he moved across the country I got the bike back. He only used it for a year, maybe all of two thousand miles, but radiating from every nipple hole on the rim were cracks. It was a 500w Bafang geared hub motor in a 29 inch wheel...

    Noisy spokes

You get what you pay for. Most of us here are quite dependent on the stuff China makes. Some things are of great quality, others aren't. It was the same way in the US when made all the stuff for our ourself.

    kekk k7 pro spot welder?

It's probably a junk welder, meaning you'll soon throw it away. Though, you are most welcome to buy it and prove me wrong. I'll hazard a guess that quite a few people here have burned up several cheap welders. I have, but some people do report good results.

Looking for a new home forum.. gassers ok?

Nice looking bikes! Not into gassers too much anymore myself, but an alcohol fueled bike would be a cool build.

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

You know ICE vehicles run on a thermodynamic cycle, while an ev exports that inherent inefficiency to the grid, depending on what powers the grid.

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

The electrification of auto transport in the US has been an abject failure. As far as government intervention it was tax breaks for wealthy consumers buying vanity electric vehicles. That's not going to change the needle of the crisis at hand.

How common are irregularities like these for BBSHD rotors?

It is what it is. These are low cost machines, so they'll never get the love. Maybe you could chuck it up in a lathe and make it look pretty. Though that might cause even more trouble.

Whole home battery / inverter backup design considerations

The problem is code compliance, so a good place to start is reading the applicable NEC code for your jurisdiction. You could do an uninspected DIY system, but that has some potentially severe consequences, though knowledge of the code is still most beneficial. '

In your opinion what would be the ultimate DIY ebike build for 2024?

That' impressive. My experience at 35mph (at full charge) is on a bike that weighs 50 lbs. with 38mm tires pulling 1200w. As far as a tdz2 running at 36v I built one. It still sits, as being so underwhelming it's not worth the weight of the motor to power the bike. Someday I'll build a 48v...

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

This thread started in 2012?!!! That's some long legs there. None of my projects are as challenging as yours, but I worry about mine. Like if I am going to finish any of them before I myself finish. Wish I had your shop.

Flakes, not nuggets, would be what you would need to sense in a placer.

In your opinion what would be the ultimate DIY ebike build for 2024?

Have you ever ridden an ebike with a power meter and a speedometer and looked at it when you're going 35mph on the level?

In your opinion what would be the ultimate DIY ebike build for 2024?

I'm planning on pulling a cargo weight of 200 to 300 pounds up some short steep hills with two 1500w dd leaf motors. Fed 40a each at 50v is 4000w total, about 5.5hp. I proceed under the assumption that it might work. Afterall that's 3000 ft-lbs. per second.

Possible to get cheap Chinese cars?

Doing a retrofit of a commercial diesel powered vehicle into an RV is going to be a big headache in the Golden State.

In your opinion what would be the ultimate DIY ebike build for 2024?

I wouldn't hold my breath trying to get a tsdz2 equipped bike to do 35mph.

Building my first trailer - dropouts vs through frame etc.

I bought a pair of single-sided, direct-drive 1500w hub motors from Leaf for my cargo trike build. They're in 20x4 rims. My first build with single-sided motors. The plus is you don't have to take the wheel off to change a tire, and maybe gain some cargo platform width. 48V 52V 1500W single...

Simple practicle (cross)wind assist and better aero for any bike

Then I guess the thirty bucks I paid for that bike with the bladed spokes was a waste of money, though it is a beautiful piece of wall art.
