A123 20AHr Pouch Cell Battery Build & Info Thread

PLease people do not buy anything from Victpower, I bought a load of A123 36v and 48v 20Ah battery packs from them. All of them had the copper + power lead solder to aluminium lol...of course the solder would not take and every single pack (over 15 of them) the power lead had fallen off in...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

Sometimes a light Dremal'ing (in between the crank threads) is needed to get rid of any stray welds from the welding process when they made your bike. Just move the Dremel tool in light smooth circular motion and keep presenting the BBS01/02 until it slots in snugly. Some spray oil on the...

I'm building a monster 96v pack from 18650 Samsung 22p cells for my Cagiva Mito 125 build. Not sure I would want that much Lipo under my balls, you sir are a brave man :D

Top of charge voltage for home based battery???

I would imagine a once a month full charge left on for a few days to balance a pack that has been used a lot at 80% charge. The BMS would not have been able to balance any weak/strong cells and none would have reached the balance voltage threshold.

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

This was always a problem when using those meters, the extra length of cable (many times longer than normal) used to run from the battery to the power meter then all the way back to the controller. Thank goodness for the Cycle Analyst, if you could take the LCD part of the power meter and mount...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

After a very long absence from the forum whilst I left my job to start my company I thought I would jump in this thread briefly.... I have UK stock arriving within a week arriving at our depot of the new 9 Fet V2 750W Bafang mid drive kit. UK delivery is free and Europe delivery at cost...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

I'm a few miles from Stonehenge, just off the A303. Just pop the controller or the whole motor in the post and I'll program it for free, just sort me out on the return postage. Will be a lot cheaper if you just send the controller part. Don't worry, I won't keep it, been on this forum for a...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

I would say the Mac motor but unless you are doing big hill climbs where max power is needed all the time it isn't a constant 25A pull on the battery pack. We tested the BMS overload on the battery and it does cut in at around 28A if I remember correctly, so does a great job of protecting the...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

25A is doable for sure, recently built a silly fast off road 8T MAC with Cycle Analyst v3 for a customer and the new battery packs of Cellmans. It's been running really well with the Infineon 9 Fet controller and CA limiting the max amps. Lot's of power and 32mph is plenty fast enough for a...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

What I would not be happy doing is overclocking the controller, it will throw up an error anyway if you try to get more power out of it than it is designed for. Which if you think about it is a good thing, how many motors and controllers have we all blown up due to pushing them just that bit...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

Unfortunately part of my distribution deal with Bafang is that only the dealers can have the cable and new software. I would of course be more than happy to program your controller for you for just the return postage cost. You just need to unscrew the controller part of the motor, should fit in...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

I've got only 2 x 250w 36v and 1 x 48v 750w Bafang mid drive kits left in stock. More on the way though, the amps can be limited in software and as long as you are careful when inserting the motor into the crank tube you should not cause any damage to the threads.

Lovely bike Sacko, hats off to you. I've been somewhat occupied with other things since I bought that motor from you..... I might stick it in the raptor ...or I might just put it in a kiddies trike one of those plastic things.

I have the lower speed TC65 Crown motor, still have not found time to test it out yet. Have the 72v 50A Crystalyte controller that came with it, my first thoughts were that it was a bit low powered for this motor. What phase amps were you putting into the motor when you ran 90A at battery?

Why Lithium Ion Batteries Prematurely Fail

Could be a lack of daily use, but they would have had at least 500 cycles on it by now. And they are kept on an almost trickle charger where the BMS is fed with just enough power to keep all the cells nicely and very gently topped up at 3.65v. I had tried timers but it just was not feasible...

Why Lithium Ion Batteries Prematurely Fail

I agree with all the statements above, but here is a thought...... I have a 3 year old 12S 1P 12Ah Headway pack that I built, it has been on the charger 100% for 3 years. It still gives out over 11.5Ah and is in constant use. In the winter not so much use at all but it is still left on the...

Why Lithium Ion Batteries Prematurely Fail

Charging at lower voltage is better for the battery for sure, but we have to make sure that the BMS can balance at that lower voltage otherwise the pack goes out of balance pretty quick.

Strange problem cell nr. 9 always low

As I understand it (quickly reading through the new posts whilst watching something on the news), his charger was set to 55v instead of 58.4v. The BMS never had a hope in hell of balancing this pack apart from just bleeding down the high cells every it is charged....this is why chargers that...

Strange problem cell nr. 9 always low

Yep I reckon charging up the cells individually to 3.65v and then monitor the pack over the next few charges. The charger/BMS setup stops charging when your cell hits 3.9v because it is doing its job as in not letting the cell overcharge (personally I would like to see a 3.7v trigger the...
