    Drum and Roller brakes

Looking for a good alternative alternative to disc brakes. They do the job and stop wheels on all our bikes, include the heavy cargo, but at what cost: I find myself constantly readjusting wheels and bending back rotors because they keep grinding on the pads. It seems one hard break a full power...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Do you have a drawing ? Would be interesting to see if it can be built. I have the sx1 up front on my utopia an can confirm that handling improves up to a certain rack load and/or slope steepness. Than it starts slipping. It works better than expected though, especially in terms of battery...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. The guy building them has been doing so since 1986. He won multiple prices for the fastest and sturdiest semi-recumbent. Here is the classic model with less aggressive steering: Front fork is hand welded cromoly with elastomer suspension. Apparently it's...

Same here. Less Trucks because it's Europe :) but man, all those huge SUVs with only 1 person inside. The same person that will complain non stop over gas prices whenever you meet...

    Motor cable exit potting ?

I'll probably have to swap cables on the new g0hs motor and could use some help. 1. The existing cable is very well potted. How can I best pull it out ? 2. What potting material is recommended to seal the motor cable exit ? I have rtv silicone laying around and epoxy. First one seems too weak...

1Kw GEARED hubs finally here: New Bafang g0hs.1000.dc

27.5" Would probably make sense to use a smaller wheel, but I don't have a 26" frame left... Also, no Idea which winding they shipped. The stickers reads 26/27.5/28" 52V if it means anything.

    Cargo bike motor recommendation

Dunno Oakland, but I doubt it beats the local 1300m mountains - hence my question. Starting at 500m altitude, 12km long trip, it takes me around 60min to reach the top including a couple of pauses to cool down the motor. The only real problem I encounter is when starting on a very steep slope...

The high power front hub thread

Agreed. My FH212 is rated for 800-1500W on ebikes.ca though I routinely pump 2.5Kw through it, although for 5min max. Ferrofluid helps keeping things cool.

    Cargo bike motor recommendation

Chalo and Amberwolf are right IMO: for very high power on cargo, 2wd is king. Maybe one DD for regen, and one geared for torque. I still gotta ask: do you need that much power, especially at low speeds: I carry 2 kids on a long john with an rh212 DD hub along the swiss jura - so total weight...

1Kw GEARED hubs finally here: New Bafang g0hs.1000.dc

Motor arrived today! First good news: it's super easy to take apart. All you need is a fancy t25 holed bit and a 17mm wrench. First bad news: would it kill you to actually grease the thing, bafang ? Clean bafang build with an O-ring seal like we've seen on all newer models. Also 6 magnets...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Agreed; on my utopia bike it's also 144cm. Yet I have to agree with Atos62 when he writes about weight distribution vs handling on those semi recumbent. It's just terrible. On a steep hill with 20+ kg luggage and a battery, I can almost feel the front wheel leaving the pavement. Hence my search...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Actually it's 100cm on that bike which is the same as most tour/trekking bikes. If it's too wiggly, you can always go for a steering stabilizer, but I would not recommend it: https://www.kidscab.be/en/kidscab-child-transportbike-accessories/1703-cargo-bike-steering-damper.html It think a great...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Check out this little jewel: Riding position a bit more aggressive than a true semi like the cannondale, but it is still quite upright and solves the front fork issue and would allow for a powerful front hub, especially if you put the battery up front.

The high power front hub thread

40km/h on 20" with no suspension !?! You are my new hero. Past 25, you can forget about me... I can feel every mm unevenness pushing through my body right towards the spine. Ouch. Here is what I had lasered for my cargo bike. I agree that torque arms are paramount, and that you can just as...

The high power front hub thread

Very interesting replies - thanks your your time! How come some would report weird handling experience with high power front hubs while others won't? I always thought it's a matter of subjective appreciation - you like it or not. But perhaps there is an objective way to see it, as Chalo pointed...

The high power front hub thread

Hello, So far, besides that one long john the kids love, I've only build lightweight front driven ebikes (FWD) uprights and would like to move to stronger stuff, to climb steep hills. Hence I would love to collect infos and advices on high power (1000w) front hubs here, as there are many...

Motor Controller with Customizable Electronics, easy DIY and repair OpenSource

I ve been following this from the start. Also very interested into a version with larger caps (think heavy dd hubs) and I would definitely join any group order in Europe. Interesting how the move to stm32 spawned controller projects. From very few options, we now have plenty and also very good...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Seems to me that what you are looking for is a simple 20" mini bike with full suspension. I've been looking for that one for ages too. My solution: go for a hardtail and use a seatpost suspension. Combined with a good suspension fork, it works ok.

    "Re-converting" a Babboe Curve-E

Not sure what you are describing. I've seen curve-e's and they work on classic pas basis: you set an assist level, and have to somewhat turn the pedals to start the motor. Some pas have "torque imitation capabilities" where cadence affects assist, but I've never been impressed by it. If you are...

    Throttle control Lishui controller

Your controller is an "F" type which means it should support the open source ebics firmware: https://github.com/EBiCS/EBiCS_Firmware/wiki This would allow you to use a throttle or a torque sensor or whatever setup you want...

Motor decision for long john cargo bike w/ steep hills

Phaserunner, CA, pas sensor and 2x 13s5p batteries in parallel. Frame is from an obscure chinese would-be-bullitt maker sold under various brands. https://www.clamberbikes.com/Cargo-Bike-pl3386622.html https://bbf.bike/cargo?catID=1213

Motor decision for long john cargo bike w/ steep hills

No, sadly I didn t document the process of building that box. It s phenol wax pre treated wood pannels (9mm sides and 12mm bottom) screwed and glued together. Aluminium reinforcement are bolted on the sides and glued on top. As mentioned, the best parts are the seats: super smart design - takes...

Motor decision for long john cargo bike w/ steep hills

Finally had some time to take a pic. Batteries are under the front half of the loading space. Box is hommade 70x70cm. Kids-seats are from a swiss trailer maker (leggero). By far the best seats i ve seen.
