48v Ebike battery powering cordless 40v chainsaw or trimmer?

I have done this with the 80V tools - https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79384&p=1508164#p1508164 I used an oscilloscope to measure the battery signal then replicated it with a $5 Arduino. I kind of doubt this code will work directly with the 40V tools, but there is a...

    New 80 volt push mowers

Hello JesseW! I found a file on my computer called "batterySimulatorWorking.ino". I will post it below. I bet this would work for anyone that wanted to try it, although if it doesn't work we'll need to go back to square one with an oscilloscope. Running an Arduino is not too hard if you're...

    New 80 volt push mowers

That's a ton of mowing!!! Great news it works so well! I've got no clue on blade height yet, I think it will still be a few weeks before the grass will be long enough to mow up here. My guess is you would be able to charge with a normal 84V supply It seems like the main power leads go straight...

    New 80 volt push mowers

Hacked!!! :) I used a real scope this time, I found the waveform is pretty simple. I haven't put much thought into it, but it's got to be battery info, probably LVC. It's 10ms of data every 200ms. I was able to bit-bang the signal with an Arduino and the motor stayed running for a couple...

    New 80 volt push mowers

Spring is here! Almost, at least. I got started with my mower today. It's not what I'd consider super quiet, but it's half as loud as the gas mower, which is awesome. All the noise comes from the blade, which could only be avoided by a major design change, like multiple, smaller blades, etc...

    New 80 volt push mowers

It took 6 weeks for me to get my order. It may have been faster if everything was in stock when I ordered. I see no problems increasing voltage to whatever you like. If you go ahead to use this motor on a build, post a link in this thread. :D

    New 80 volt push mowers

I was back at it today. I made some progress but didn't get it working without the Greenworks battery. Last time I tried I had positive, negative, and Comm hooked up to my mower controller. The motor would spin for a few seconds then shut off. I tore apart an 80V string trimmer to see how...

    New 80 volt push mowers

FYI - Amazon Warehouse has "Used - Good" string trimmers + battery/charger for $123.56 plus 15% off making them $105.02 with free shipping right now!! I wonder if these have seen much action at all. Most of the stuff I've gotten off of amazon warehouse was just taken out of the box then...

    New 80 volt push mowers

I have pictures of all my parts. Installing this on a gas mower deck 'should' be a piece of cake. The holes from the gas engine might even line up with the electric motor mount. The only thing I'm missing is the connector between the ESC and the battery. I'll need to figure out how to mount...

    New 80 volt push mowers

I got a notification that my mower parts have shipped from OrderTree. I will probably end up getting a battery some day. I'll post a bunch of pics when I dig into the project. :)

Alien Power Systems ESC Control with Arduino

I'm not familiar with the Alien ESC, but most RC ESCs need to be calibrated, which is done based on the beeping. I've had success with the arduino and an RC ESC before. It will take some practice to get it working right. Something like this - http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=383523.0

    New 80 volt push mowers

Awesome info!! Thanks for sharing! Did you take a measurement of the voltage between the neg and com pins when you were running? Half of my greenworks mower parts order was out of stock. I emailed ordertree after a couple weeks and they said it should be back in stock 10/23/16. I guess I'll...

Need suggestions for Headlight / Taillight

Didn't get pictures of what it's like facing the light. The low beam is way easier to look at than the high beam, yet still bright enough to be seen. I think the light pulls about 30W on high beam, but don't quote me on that. Light is hacked on there. I will some day mount it better...

Need suggestions for Headlight / Taillight

I'm running this light. It is hard to mount. It takes 12-24v. The best thing is that is has a true low beam/high beam. I feel safe riding at night. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018LXCV4U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    New 80 volt push mowers

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this!!! :) Put 2-3 systems together, mower the lawn in half the time! A Greenworks battery in parallel wouldn't be the end of the world, since the batteries are pretty nice themselves. As others have said, some people use the batteries on ebikes. The four...

EDIT - Warren, didn't see you already posted these links. Thanks! Great stuff! That video was actually really helpful. $45 for the motor!? According the the manual here: http://www.greenworkstools.com/uploads/documents/2500402_GW2180V_Mower_E_manualUS_final.pdf The part number for the...

    New 80 volt push mowers

I can't figure if anyone's done that. If you could make a $300 GreenWorks battery with $100 of LiPo, you would have a killer system that's reasonably priced! $209 is an awesome price! Someone here should scoop that up. Here is the amazon price tracker for the mower...

New forklift uses lift motors to regen power while lowering

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA5z9m7jzP8 At 3:30 in the video, they say the motos can generate power to charge the battery. I would assume this mean lowering the lift. That's so cool! Would this be the first of it's kind? This gets me excited about electric vehicles. There's so much...

    New 80 volt push mowers

I used a front wheel drive push mower once, and I didn't understand why you'd want a front wheel drive mower. It didn't get as much traction, especially on a slope. Turning around the mower got a lot harder. I would think rear-wheel drive is the way to go. Maybe there are other advantages...

    New 80 volt push mowers

Thanks for the info Warren. IIRC this mower is not self-propelled. It is also probably lighter than its gasoline brethren. It is kind of awkward to push around and handle on slopes and bumps? I say this because using our gas push mower, the self propelled feature is really nice. In a way...

    New 80 volt push mowers

Also thought about making my own mower. For a few hundred bucks you could get 4-5 outrunners/controllers/prop adapters/4s LiPos from hobbyking. Make 8-10" blades that go on the prop adapers. Mount the motors on some angle iron (maybe two rows for some offset) and fashion a guard out of some...

There's discussion on the batteries here - https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46110 I want to know if you could run the mower off of some retired e-bike batteries?? I've got a bunch of '3000 mile' LiPo sitting around inside a cinder block sarcophagus, that would love to get...
