EEB Mid Drive Bike - Complete or Part out

Hello friends, I am seeing if there is any interest in a bike that I no longer use. It's a mid drive EEB that I bought from ES user shortcircuit911 and the original build thread it located here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=95439&start=275 The bike chassis has been...

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

This is the followup to this project. Thanks again for all of your insight and knowledge. It was just as ridiculous as I imagined that it would be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv6oMUIFRS8

    Battery Fire Research Thread

Hello friends! I am researching battery fire incidents and know that many in the ES community have experience and knowledge in this field. Battery fires are statistically rare events, but are trending upwards as the adoption of personal electric vehicles increases. Cheap components that are not...

Votol EM150/2 "communication abnormal" issue w/ CAN Bus

Update: I ended up purchasing a programming cable from Electro & Co. and that did the trick. The programmer looks identical to the original one that I used, so I am not sure what is different. Perhaps the software on the mcu? Hit up https://www.electroandcompany.com/ if you are running into...

Votol EM150/2 "communication abnormal" issue w/ CAN Bus

Glad you got it working Oldspot, that's great news! So you reverted back to Windows 8 since you're saying 10 blocks the driver? Any way you can share a picture of the USB to CAN adapter that you're using? I have ordered a new one from Electro & CO since I believe mine is trash.

    Votol EM-100 & EM-150 controllers

Interesting. Do you remember what settings you used for the device, such as the baud rate, 8 bit, no parity, etc? Which controller did you connect to and were you using serial or CAN Bus? Thanks for any tips you can share! I thinking about using a Raspberry Pi with Linux and a CAN adapter..

    Votol EM-100 & EM-150 controllers

Yes I'm using Windows 10. I've searched through this entire thread and so far none of the info has helped me solve the problem. It seems that the USB/Serial side of the USB to CAN adapter is working. I used a logic analyzer to probe the CAN BUS connections of the controller and can see data...

Votol EM150/2 "communication abnormal" issue w/ CAN Bus

Thanks for the info amberwolf! It seems that the Prolific drivers have been impacted the most by this Windows 10 update, as well as the "clones". That forum confirms that the FTDI drivers should be fine for use with Windows 10, as many people chose to buy that type of adapter to replace the...

Votol EM150/2 "communication abnormal" issue w/ CAN Bus

Are you running the serial version of the controller or CAN? I hope that you are able to get it working after waiting that long.. If I can't figure it out, I'm going to ditch the Votol and go with another controller. Good luck my friend.

    Votol EM-100 & EM-150 controllers

I bought a QS138 V3 kit that came with a Votol EM-150/2 controller (CAN Bus) and am one of the unlucky ones, as I have yet to successfully connect the PC software to the controller. I can open the COM Port, but each time I press "connect", it seems to time out and give me the dreaded...

Votol EM150/2 "communication abnormal" issue w/ CAN Bus

I ordered a QS138 70H V3 kit that came with a Votol EM150/2 CAN Bus motor controller, but am having an issue connecting to it with the PC. It seems that I am not the first to have this problem as I've seen several instances of a connection issue with the Votol controllers across this forum. I've...

1000W hub motor on 16" rim (20" tire) w/ motor controller (SOLD)

I laced a 1000W hub motor into a 16" rim and used it for a project but am no longer using it. So I figured I'd see if anyone else is interested. I've pushed it up to 1500W with the motor getting a little warm, but it can take more power if needed. 20" tire on a 16" rim. Motor controller is a...

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

Thank you guys for all of the input! I have been reading back through old forum posts and just trying to learn as much as I can. You all shared some good knowledge. I am leaning toward a non-radial configuration and a spoke angle of somewhere between 50 and 70 degrees. I don't have solid math...

More photos of the hub motor fitting between the forks and into the dropouts. It definitely looks like it fits?

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

Interesting. I think I ran across these before, but they weren't ever listed with more than 500W. No cross pattern, just radially laced. I don't know enough theory about lacing patterns, crossed vs. not but I suppose I should read up on it

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

The rim measures 16" exactly in diameter with a tape measure. 406mm is like 15.98", so it looks like a 16" rim, with a 20" tire. The Grin calculator has a selection for 20" (406) for nominal diameter in the Rim settings section. I think this is right?

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

This folder seems to have the 20" 406 wheel/tire combo. I took measurements and it was listed as such on the website. So it is less popular to make your own spokes? I saw a video of a guy rolling the threads into the spokes using the correct tooling but honestly, I'd rather just buy the length...

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

You're right about it being the open end/slide in type of front fork. The dropout width for the front seems to be the standard 100mm. At least I believe that's the standard. The hub motor is a "front hub motor" so it also has a drop out width of 100mm, which matches. I'll take some pictures of...

1kW Front Hub Motor on Cheap Chinese Folding Bike

Ok, I know this sounds crazy but hear me out? I want to lace a generic 1000W hub motor into a cheap chinese folding bike front wheel. Why you ask? For the same reason that some jackass would put an LS motor in a Yugo. Is it a bad idea? Yes. Inherently risky? Yes. Is that part of the reason...

    Not Another Electric Enduro Bike

I am starting a new thread with an EEB that I bought from ES user shortcircuit911 who happens to be a super solid dude and did great work building the bike. I had a Voloci rolling chassis that I was planning to use for an ebike build starting back in July, but it was unfortunately lost in...
