Hello everybody. I am getting an Error 21 on my M600. The sensor is not lighting up when the magnet goes by. Do I just need a new 3 pin sensor or something else?

Some questions to help you narrow down the issue:

Has the system ever worked correctly?

If so, what happened between the time it worked and the time it didn't?

Which sensor are you referring to? An external one, or one inside the system itself?

What does the system manual say that the error code is for?

Has any other testing/troubleshooting been done? Listing these steps will help us not make you do those steps again.

Hello,

Yes, it works correctly until it stopped working on a ride.
I was just riding on a trial when I got the error.
I’m assuming the external one but I’m not sure.
The manual says that Error 21 is a speed sensor error.

All I did was mess around with the magnet to make sure it is passing the sensor.

If it is a speed sensor error, they *probably* mean the wheel speed sensor. Usually these should pass the magnet about 5-10mm away; if they're too close sometimes they don't trigger. Wires can also break, or plugs can come *partly* undone just barely enough to cause a loss of contact.

If the system has a throttle, there are some systems that have poorly written error-handling trees that report *that* as a "speed sensor" when it's actually a "speed control" because technically it's still a sensor...In that event you could have a broken ground (or other) wire on the throttle causing a voltage outside the bounds of hte error handler.

It could also, again wiht poor error handling tree, be a motor hall sensor that is used to monitor motor speed for internal system management; that can happen because of overheating, water intrusion, vibration, poor construction from factory, etc.

If "on a trial" means "trials type riding" on rough terrain, any of those could be caused by that.

Thanks for the tips. I actually never put the throttle on. As far as repairs, what is recommended? Should I replace the sensor? It would also be nice if there was a way to bypass the speed sensor so it is no longer required.

You'll have to test to find out which sensor is actually being reported as a problem, and then find out why it's being reported--whether it is the sensor, the wiring, the connector, or the controller itself.
