Sounds like they were stolen from a bike shop. I wonder why the alarm didn't go off? Almost sounds like a possible insurance job.

That address is Stealth HQ if I'm not mistaken.

I'm wondering if Stealth got wise and started putting the Serial # somewhere not obvious for this exact reason.

I do hope they are recovered...and I sure hope it doesn't impact any customer deliveries...the wait after ordering is already long enough.

Watch Ebay and Craigslist, I would also add if any one finds a "to good to be true deal" or the real obvious which would be "the charger got lost during shipping" then the sellers are the most likely the suspect/s.

Oh. I was thinking just a bike shop. It's funny the article didn't mention it was the Stealth factory. That's pretty bold to steal them from there, damn.

In any case I hope they catch the buggers, and the shop owner(s) have good insurance.

I just heard from quigley, they are moving shop space.
Glad they are ok. I was getting concerned.

Inleau of recent ebike thefts, I thought it would be important for us to talk about anti bike theft measure. I know its been discussed before, but I don't think we explored all available options. I really like these two options. :lol:

Iv been doing some winter checks on my bike found the hub motor sproket side wheel bearing had slight play BOTH were changed 1800miles ago so split hub to investigate,and it would seem that,that side bearing had got to hot, from hub heat ?or from bearing running and getting to hot,has anyone else had this,should i vent hub that side, or get a ceramic bearing ?

Had my 2nd spill on SB178..... rolling energetically down a grass berm under an overpass...... apprently (unbeknownst to me)..... grass was wet..... so tires wet..... then I transition to the concrete.... which apparently (unbeknownst to me) had bat-shi$ all over it...... wet tires on bat-shi$ equal slippy...... so I crash, bend a crank, and the seat mount comes apart (see pic). So I've finally accumulated enough trauma on old SB178 to do my big ambitious tear down, and rebuild.

NEEDED:
1. new rear sprocket. All loose.
2. v-boxx output gear bearing is all loose as an old bar maid. Any ideas on who/how/where to get this serviced?
3. Have seat mount frame re-welded. I presume my local shop can do this?
4. Install true water proof 5 pin connector. Got the parts in for this.
5. Strip and custom paint the frame..... thinking matte silver, or a crazy candy color. And swing arm matte black. TBD.
6. I need to remove the batt connector so I can pull the controller battery supply cable through the frame..... any ideas on how to remove the battery connector? Special tool? see pic.
7. New front tire needed.
8. got one of the updated tq blocks for the rear axle.
9. installed the replacement CA switches.... super easy.
10. will prob install a new key switch.
11. thinking of some blingly CF 3m film to color match my paint... more to come.

I was surprised to see the rust starting in the bottom of the batt box.

With my motors are always switch out bearings to either SKF units, when I can get them, or Axisbearing.http://axisbearing.com/old/2012AxisCatalog-Web.pdf Always get 2RS bearings as these have rubber seals on both sides.

Too bad you aren't the original owner, Stealth would repair that whole frame for you for nothing. But, you local welder can as well. gets some 1/2"x1/8"x3" cromolly flat bar and welds some gussetts around the inside of the seat triangle. Kind of a Trellis. Make sure you still have room to get your sock in there to remove and install the upper rear shock bolt. With the rust you got on this frame, you would be better off stripping down, and taking it to a shop with a bead blaster/sand blaster and remove all of the old powder coating. Need to see if there is any other rust. After you have it powder coated or painted, drill some 1/16 inch holes in the lowest part of the frame say three, one in the center and one on each side, this will allow water to drain out of the battery box compartment. I wish I was there, I could repair your frame for nothing.

Project SB178 Redeaux has begun:
1) stripped the entire bike down to the swing arm, frame, and seat frame.
2) got the seat frame rewelded, added some add'l mount points to better dist the load of my 210lb arse.

Time to order some new goodies for the rebuild:
1) pedals,
2) shocks,
3) new battery connector (had to clip the CA side ANEN connector to pull it through the frame).
4) new ignition switch
5) new handle bars
6) after I decide on paint color, I'll select a snazzy carbon fiber 3m cover for the frame cover parts/pcs.
7) was getting a little ambitious about doing a custom back-lit stealth bomber lightning symbol on the top of the frame. I'll see how this progresses.
8) new grips
9) new throttle
10) new 5 pin water tite connector

How do you tell is you need to change your rear hub bearings? Mine are tight, and seem to have normal resistance when rolling by hand.

The actualy frame areas are rather small..... I could just rattle can it, sand, apply coats, then clear....... another thing to think about.

Colors for consideration:
1) matte silver... great contrast with red/black.
2) candy apple red.
3) large metal flake med purple,
4) large metal flake med / light green.

other option for consideration.... get the swing arm chromed... sport bike style.

Alot to think about.

Dropped SB178 frame/sw arm/fork crown bits @ painter today.
Getting a quote on chrome plating the sw arm.



Got the entire bike parts lot stripped, cleaned and prepped for when supplies arrive this week.



Wife got her SF..... still no battery yet..... so she is just riding in figure 8's patiently waiting


Hope to get this back from paint by next weekend.

How do you tell is you need to change your rear hub bearings? Mine are tight, and seem to have normal resistance when rolling by hand.

When the wheel is mounted and axle nuts snugged down to torque specs, grab the top of the wheel and move it side to side, if no movement, your bearings are fine, if a little movement replace. Also, if they are tight with no movement, but sound kind of loud when spinning, thats an indication your bearings are dry and need grease.

I'm off to work in the shop today, pulling the rear hub apart, grease bearings, new tubes, new tires, new shrink wrap on the motor wires, new 5 pin connector. Fun bits.
