I appreciate the transparency Neptronix. In the beginning I was guilty of letting Chalo push my buttons. Even though he wasn't banned from the Stealth thread, he was ran out by a bunch of members calling him out about 10-12 years back. No secret Chalo was/is home or based out of Texas. One time I stumbled across an article where he and some others were reported by the news of donating their time for repairing bicycles in their locality for the fiscally challenged. I thought that was a fairly noble gesture. Since I learned that about Chalo, I became more tolerant of his abrasive disposition. Chalo, in his own way, is kind of like John Wayne toilet paper, rough and doesn't take $h!t off of anyone.
Thanks for sharing that. I didn't know that, but from my previous experiences with people having similar dispositions, I didn't rule it out, and even suspected that could be the case. That alone was enough for me to be more tolerant, and not judge his character based on the relatively narrow interactions here, but on a bigger picture. Of course, you need to have gained some faith in people to make that work. In the end, I'd hope to be judged on how I've conducted the balance of my life rather than just by my less than stellar moments.
He's also sent stuff to various members here (including me), on his own dime, when they needed something he had but didn't have the $$ to get it themselves.

I noticed a decline last year, where several veteran members that often provided solid advice stopped participating on the forum. I haven't been here long enough to tell whether it was just the normal ebb and flow, or actual attrition. A few of them have checked in after a year or so, but then disappeared again. It's sad, because when I started with ebikes, although I had a good technical background and education, I quickly learned how valuable knowledge born through experience was and how that provided a much greater value to this hobby. The folks here have/had that. It's really a shame when that knowledge goes away, but, I still learn things being on the forum, which keeps me interested.
The current crop of new users are mostly all "educated" with bad AI information. They feel they've narrowed their issues down to what is actually the wrong solution, and it takes several posts to get them back to square one, in order to start the actual troubleshooting. Undoing bad AI "knowledge" is a pain, and frustrating, since it has created so many "experts".
The really sad thing is, I've Googled things related to ebikes, and while Google's AI assisted answers are most of the time wrong, I've looked at the reference articles it's using and found that a lot of times they aren't even related to the question, and on a couple occasions, I was shocked to find those references included my own posts from this forum, used completely out of context and contributing to the crappy AI answer. In a way, it's fighting a battle against ourselves. As the number of members that have the experience based knowledge leave or are ushered out, the impact is mostly felt by the remaining members. Maybe it's a good thing, since the remaining members possibly have a much greater passion for helping others, and much greater patience to fight the AI battle?
We're fighting off AI attacks with forum software, but AI keeps fighting back. I'm glad people found humor in my earlier tongue in cheek post on an absurd AI based solution, since what is really important and provides the greatest value, still involves knowledge acquired by and shared with, people.
I used to get killer advice for liveforphysics and mwkeefer 15 years ago. I remember YPedal threatening to ban me because i was fighting with drkangel too much. It's natural to outgrow one hobby and move on to another. I've seen 10's of thousands come and go.
What i see is a sign of health is that new smart people come along to fill the intellectual void continually. I can think of a dozen people who are on par with the old greats today. I've been on this forum for 15 years and i'm still learning stuff from people like that. That's what gets me up in the morning.
Yes our latest batch of users when we fixed long standing SEO problems seem to come less and less informed. We have another factor in place where people are believing AI without examination and come in mis-educated instead of under-educated. What can we do except for continually share tribal knowledge and double down on what we're good at while everyone else tries these mostly failing techno-sociological experiments lately.

E-HP we joined within months of each other. I remember reading all your post on your first build on here (don't remember if was your first ebike). Liked all the detailed work you put into it.
We one thing in life that is assured nothing stays the same for long and no one lives forever. Most of the long time members are gone or don't post. Only a hand full that I knew when I started are left. But my family is shrinking faster than the members in this forum.
Chao not being here just made realize the loss. The days of 6 phase motors and death bikes are gone. Don't know anyone left that has raced their ebikes on drag strips. Did notice the cart doing runs thru the 1/8 mile. Remember Electric God, glad he is gone.

I really miss the showmanship era of the 2000's EV scene.
I think maybe it's a dead culture today because EVs blew the doors off of ICE a long time ago, it's just not as exciting, feels more like rubbing salt in a wound

IIRC, the fastest E-bike I believe is the Silver Lightning at 6.86 sec. on the 1320.
Spiderman" McBride (riding pistons) has run a 5.61
Numbers may have change lately, as I don't follow drag bikes anymore.
