I was clicking and popping through Xarvox's build links and found this gem:

These guys combined a Freeride MTB with a KTM 450 and came up with something that weighs only 125 lbs! I think we can take the same idea, go electric and weigh much less. Here is another similar idea from Derbi:

the reason i didnt go there was it is a dirtbike, not a bicycle but if your lucky enough to be able to get away with riding one in your local area i'd say it's a gem to convert - any thoughts on specs for a conversion?, i should think that bike would way more than a dh ??

I can see it now: drop an Agni in, a few kWhrs of LiFePO4, get it road legal, pretty sweet.

it sounds like you are describing the Zero X... a lot of its componentry is from the DH bike world.

That bike doesn't need to be electric. It has a fantastic engine. Nobody is a bigger fan of Japanese engines, but KTM has them beat for 2-stroke performance. That little KTM 85cc engine easily makes 20hp with a few minor parts, and with the dynamic powervalve setup, it has a boatload of low end torque with out sacrificing topend. They make the power of 125cc 2-stroke engines of lesser bikes, and the power of 250-300cc 4-stroke bikes. That whole engine assembly with 5spd tranny, radiator, clutch, etc, all enclosed in neat little package only weighs about 30-40lbs all together. Very good choice in engine.

I personally run a 380cc 2-stroke KTM engine in a bike that only weighs 95lbs more than this one. While it may have 3-times the power, it would never be capable of being as nimble on a trail through the forest. A light and nimble bike is a massive advantage when riding tight trails. Much more of an advantage than power. I love the bike they made! I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I can't disagree with you on that Luke. I love the power ICE engines make, I gladly inhale the smell of 2 stroke fuel, I especially miss the grunt my yamaha 426 had. But if your gonna be huckin around a city, neighborhood, or campus, you can't beat silence. The sound of a gasser brings the cops around everytime. And that is always when the fun ends. You may have the luxury of running off into the hills to get your kicks, but alot of us live in more urbanized environments which equals more cops doing their best to make sure you aren't having fun. That is why I am here, trying to get my rocks off before they realize my invention might not be legal.

At only $2,050 cost for everything, including the bike and electronics and batteries, it's a bargin compaired with the 7 and 8 thousand dollar prices on these other machines.

yeh i'd seen that vid, kid has mad skills, although i thought i'd read somewhere that the nike he was riding was indeed just a 110cc pitbike stripped down, someone had said it had mtb parts but another person said not so who knows
Anyway kid rides good
John's stealth electrics are sweet looking too, however he's still running hubs and there pretty weighty at the back imo, not what you want offroad really although that said he does give them some stick and they seem ok? i think John has a background in dirtbikes and i have to say his custom frames and choice of components look pretty good to me.
The problem with all those bike for me personally is apart from Luke's and John's there all dirtbikes, gas or electric makes no odss to me i still wouldn't be able to stealth them as well as real ebikes, not that i wouldn't love one but in my area i just couldn't get away with it if i had to choose one electric dirtbike (pre made) i'd probably go with the quantya.

Yeah i read through all the comments in his YouTube vid, he answers a few questions spattered about the comments, he said he made the frame from scratch at his engineering 'school' (think something is lost in his english translation...he is French) He also said he is hoping to produce them for sale. Either way yeah he can definitely ride...NOW this is what we EXPECT to see from you Deec Ma Main MAN!!! got any BMX tracks handy matey hehehe...I was quite handy on a BMX bike myself 'back in the day' i won over 80 trophies including 3 state championships (2 in BMX 1 in motorcross) Ahhhh the good ol days when my legs worked and i could walk these days i have to live precariously through your adventures Deec so make them damn exciting HAHAHAA.... :: sits back puts legs on desk and waits for Deec's adventures to begin ::

The Frenchman is indeed skilled, i do think though it is a hell of a lot easier doing what hes doing on a no geared centrifugal clutched bike rather than a multi speed clutched full on motocross bike, dunno, might be more difficult on a e-bike with rc motor too, you have no engine compression to rely on in the wheelie department either, be a hard on the back brake scenario if you tip back to much rather than slightly buttoning off on the throttle and letting the compression lower the front? Might be wrong though i often am LoL...With your 'mad skillz' Deec it should be a non issue rumors are rife about the traps you can manual for a few blocks anywayz...can you confirm or deny these rumors hehehee

mad skillz on a bmx eh? im impressed, and a motox trophy? sheeeeeeet your riding skillz would put mine to shame.
I have to be honest mate, i did a bit of bmxing in the 80's and thats about my experience on bikes, oh i did have a few motorbikes too,late teens to early twenties but my tuned 125 rd lc being the quickest doesn't exactly make me Carl Foggarty.

For most of my life football was my pasion (if anyone calls it soccer i'll be pissed!!!! ) i fell into ebikes during my mid life crisis but at least i have a new found hobby to consume the weekends and my cash now
I'm looking forward to methods and Lukes adventures, they both seem like loons to me so we should be good for a show there i will post my weak attempts to ride up, at least they will give you a laugh !!! i feel a bit of a dick in protective stuff as i'm hardly blasting but i hear and heed the comments

Being near 40 now i'm a little more reserved in the loon department, oh that and the countless surgey on the legs through football (not soccer), to date i've had, broken ankle, broken toe, broken left leg two cartlidge ops on the left knee, two cartlifdge ops on the right knee and snapped the right leg clean in half, for a very similair break look up Henrich Larsen's broken leg on utube, thats ugly and similair.

Thats partly why i went for an ebike, to assist my battered legs uphill and to stop the knees from swelling up after a hard ride. Good job i'm not doing anything totally stupid like going snowboarding, oh wait i am, next week :lol: do we ever learn?

DAMN i thought you were a youngin; Deec (under 30 anywayz) I be 40 this Friday myself

The BMX craze hit our shores hard in the early 1980s, i have a BMX track less than a kilometer from the end of my driveway ironically i only raced there on a handful of occasions, i used to Race Wednesday evenings(Kewdale Track), Saturday Afternoon(Kelmscott Track), Sunday Morning(Westside track) and Sunday Night(Malaga Track) and trained every other day i didnt race both on track/rollers/road bike. BMX was HUGE here in the 80's has all but died these days compared to back then, every kid you saw in the 80s was on a BMX bike. I was also into football (NOT soccer) Australian Rules Football dunno if you have heard of it? Won fairest and Best in under 13s (3rd year i played) never played again after that bikes and windsurfing took over ...then girls beer weed LoL....

Be good to see your escapades anywayz Deec, dont go doing anything too silly mate prefer to have you in one peice LoL

p.s my broken bone count... 16 fractures in my pelvis, 3 broken vertebrae, "shattered" left knee, broken left arm near elbow (still have titanium plates in that one with 16 screws LoL) broken right hip OH haha nad broke my left pinky finger too for a grand total of 11 months in hospital and 12 months of rehab wooohooo...aint motorbikes fun LoL, now, if i could just workout a way to keep a motorcycle upright when at a standstill and get my wheelchair on it somehow i would be back riding one tomorrow!!! I actually started riding motorbikes when i was 3 years old Deec haha my old man sponsored two riders in motorcross so i guess was inevitable i ended up riding too, he ran a business for 20-25 years making tailor made racing leathers/jackets/seat upholstery he even made bike fairings for a stint in the 70s...I actually have a video tape somewhere converted from super 8 film of me doing donuts on out driveway (then gravel) when i was 3 on a mini bike my old man built looked like a miniature speedway bike hahaah had my first motocross race when i was 5 om a Honda MR50 From that point on bikes were always apart of my life...well till i smacked a couple of lamposts on my Yamaha TT350 enduro bike DOH!!
