I'm trying to build a stator type magnet, although it's not really a stator for a motor but rather a field coil for an experiment.

I have built cooled copper magnets but would like to use iron to reduce my power consumption.

Where is there a company that can either provide high mu lamination plates or provide machined and stackable plates for something that will be roughly 12x12x6 inches overall?

Is it more or less a no-brainer that plates are better than sintered particles for mu in a DC design?

If it’s DC you don’t really need plates. You can use a solid block of mild steel.
