me1719 and kls7230 and lack of power.

Hello all!

I have a kasea adventurer that i am converting to electric, its a full size gocart with suspension. I believe i should be posting in here.

it had a wimpy 125cc honda clone engine, and i have replaced it with an me1719, and a kls7230s. The battery i made is 20s15p (samsung 35e), with a 200amp jkbms, 72v 400amp contactor with bleed resistor, 4 gauge wire. i have it basically all assembled, and began trying to program the controller with the program from kellys website. "motor ets 2.0.2" had issues with the usb to serial adapter, but i figured that out that it didnt like higher port numbers. making it port 1, now it connects every time. Im running into a few issues that i have no idea how to fix.

issue 1) the ETS programs window seems to be unable to scale properly, im missing some options. i can see half of the clickable options on the right, but not their names in entirety. i can make do with that but if anyone knows how to make it look proper id appreciate that.

every walk through i seemed to have found was for the KMC app, but i thought it would still be close enough to the motor ets app, since motor ets replaced kmc, right off kellys site. but my main concern is that there is absolutely no power (torque) on the ground. *I am currently testing with a twist throttle, im waiting for the throttle pedal to come in*

2) motor ticks/clicks/cogs and whines but doesnt want to move (no codes). almost have to push it to get it to take off, even at 100% throttle and it seems to struggle at about 5mph. once it has began to move, it will continue to move itself, albeit at a snails pace.

Point blank, I have no idea what im doing with this software, any chance one of you fine folks could help me resolve this? it has no problems reaching ludicrous speeds on jack-stands.

Most of the stuff you need to know is in the Kelly program manual. Read it to get a basic understanding of the program content.

Did you perform the autoidentification yet? it’s done in the ”identify angle” box. Don’t run motor if you didn’t, it can damage the controller.

one of the first things ive done was the indentify angle, it had me enter setting of 170 and let it run for a couple minutes. i saw 3-2 which i believe to be completed angle set. I do have and keep using the manual as a resource but am still unsure what i am missing or have wrong.. It doesnt want to drive and im not making it do such

Go into monitor and check how much TPS is actually seen on the controller. Also check for voltage drop and current in the program.
If you're using a hall throttle TPS type should be 2
Another thing I've noticed, TPS rev map is 40 on my controller.

man i suck... for some reason decided to redo angle identification.. Now it will not complete, no error code, just says 'indentify err'. it doesnt make it past the first 5 or so 'ticks'. the first time it did it, it ticked around and then spun at some speeds and finished with 1 less led. now its not (both stay lit/identify error on screen). making the box 85 (not correct because the controller didnt do it) brings it back to 'working' but it automatically did it the first time, maybe took 1.5 minutes, 2 mins tops. I have played around with phase/hall wiring and no combo makes it any better, just swap directions of rotation.

in monitor i saw 46-216 for throttle, also was/is set to type 2. I have changed tps rev map to 40 as well but i cant tell you what drop and current is now though (without forcing the 85 in ets program).

What the hell did i do!?

Spin the motor by hand and check if all 3 halls are showing up, it should read 0 or 1. They should cycle when turning the motor.

yes i can see the 3 halls as i spin the motor. a-ab-b-bc-c-ca is the order they seem to go in.

I'll check my settings to compare tomorrow.
There might be something else that is causing a problem, like some hall/motor/poles setting maybe.

Did you run the identification with no chain on, no sprocket? The kellys can be a bit sensitive to load during the id, and it sounds like the hall/phase matching isn’t OK from your description. I’ve had motors that didn’t autoidentify but ran well when matched manually, this can be your next option.

sorry for the delay, work has been hectic.

I do not have the sprocket on it, and i thiiiink i have it wired correct. I recieved most everything as a kit off ebay (kelly controller/throttle/motor) and have been going back and forth between the data i can find for the me1719 and the kellys manual.. I cant find a 'technical drawing' showing the pin out for my exact motor (no longer has the factory plug, has a bunch of plugs in its place). i have found one for an me1716 ( https://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/images/detailed/1/ME1716Mech.JPG ) and if that wiring diagram is correct, i have it wired right.. How does one manually match halls/phases? id love to try just to eliminate it as a potential issue.

I guess it’s not this motor since you see the hall signals. Might be a good idea to upload all the info on the kit you bought here.
