Do you have link to the specs of the motor? I am not able to find them in Google for some reason (or motenrgy website)...

If Im not mistaken these look like engiro 205ws which are rated from 5kws up to a hundred or so, the only real way to determine the exact model would be by taking a look at the nameplate located on the underside below the coolant lines.

Not saying these are the ones, but....

Here's the nameplate.
These motors might also be Engiro 205W_08011_ABC, need to fire one up and see the Kev.
Pretty sure these are the lower speed version, certain they were ordered for 48v to replace a diesel engine.

Hm.... very interesting... think these would work on 150-200vdc pack, to bring a VW beetle conversion up to 65mph?

Too much voltage. These are wound for 48/96v operation, and would work well in that range for your application.
Perhaps, thought according to the spec sheets linked above, the 205w motor is good up to 850vdc. There's a separate spec sheet for various voltage ranges. Time to do some digging...

Edit; i now see that this model model comes in various windings. And just because motors technically are good for a wide range of voltages, doesn't mean they're ideal for any voltage. Still gonna keep digging

Motor length is ~260mm.
There are three possible motors this could be as the length is 260mm, the 08020, the 08016, and as was already mentioned the 08011

All three of the possible motors have a max of 200 volts, you could at most run a 47s pack, the rpm and winding is sort of irrelevant as you can always gear the output appropriately and a combined output power of ~50-60kws should be more than enough for a sustained 65mph especially since beetles are on the lighter and smaller end. Oh and should probably also mention that the 08020 has a kv of ~21 with the 08011 being ~40 rpm/v and the 08016 with a kv of ~27.

Some quick and dirty math, assuming the beetle has roughly 24in tires you would need a an rpm of 910 at the wheel or a 3.9:1 gear ratio for the 21kv motor and a ratio of 7.43:1 for the 40kv version to be able to hit 65 at the nominal voltage of 47s.

I was coming to the same conclusion; that even if the motors are the specific model wound for 48-96v, I could still give them 200, and gear it appropriately. A 1970 beetle has a 3.80:1 ratio in its 1st gear.

Thanks for your input

Ive shot off an email to motenergy to see what they say about these, my best guess would be that they contracted engiro to manufacture these and just embossed their company name and sku on them, as for why? have got no real theories, really curious to see what they respond back with, if anything at all...

Thanks, I didn't think of that.

From a Motenergy posting on DIYElectricCar, Oct 20th, 2018

"It is not that strange....At Motenergy, we design our motors in the USA, and we have them built at a few different suppliers in China. They build our motors under an exclusivity agreement, and the agreement states that we sell the motors to all customers outside of China. We pay for all tooling, and we have design control on all the engineering drawings.

We also let our suppliers sell the same motors and designs within China. Motenergy does not have a business presence in China, and we are not legally allowed to sell products in China. If the suppliers find customers and can grow their business within China, with our designs and tooling, then it only helps to increase the volume for a particular product line, and decrease the costs.

I hope this helps."
