NOOBIE RUN-TIME + BATTERY + MOTOR QUESTIONS

HeyItsMe

1 µW
i have little to no prior knowledge with electricity, please bear with me.

Here is the senario, a motor with a max amperage of 70A, max wattage of 2250W, and it's hooked up with an ESC along with a 20C, 5000mAh battery,(18.5v) 5s lithpo battery.

My question is about the run time of this setup. Is it true that my batteries will only have enough to support only 92.Wh for an hour?18.5v)*(5000mAh)=92.5Wh? Is it true that my batteris will only have enough power to support only 5A for an hour?
If the above is all true, does it mean that I will need a 70,000mAh in order to support my moto(70A) for an hour?

Welcome dude,

Hell no! Please take a look at the battery section and you will learn a lot on how this works.

But no, you don't need a 70Ah battery just for your motor to work, the ESC does the job of converting power for you. VxA variables can be altered for the same power output.

-get a motor with Kv between 150 and 300 (Turnigy? Tacon?) or just get hub motors like Carvon or Hummina's motors.
-get a drive pulley system for your motor and board trucks, many options available. If you have a 3D printer you'll be happy to print them!
-get preferably 6S minimum battery pack (2x3S possible) and minimum 10Ah, or you'll be sorry for low range
-get XT90 connectors, your fingers and cables will thank you!
-get a 6S minimum ESC.
-Choose a combo transmitter receiver proven on ES.
-get a proper charger with balancing features

That's the simplest I can propose if you build by yourself. Don't cut too much on budget, you'll regret later.

Hi
Your motor rating of 70A is the maximum that motor can handle before it starts to burn up.
You will not be drawing anywhere near that while riding normally on flats. On hills, possibly yes.
Your battery can indeed only supply 5A for one hour - or multiples of that for correspondingly less time. Theoretically up to 20C which would mean a 100A draw for 3 minutes. (Don't do this or your battery will not last very long)
If possible, depending on ESC voltage, please try and increase your voltage - perhaps by using two of those batteries in series for a 5AH 10S battery. The increased voltage will decrease the current and strain on battery and motor.

Usually 100Wh translate to around 8 miles if you are greedy on power

Very good choice of motor, many builders here use it you will find lot of support!

10S is good too you will love the ride. You can get a ESC from Torqueboards for plug and play!

hey man,
I think you'd save a lot of time & grief by going with a castle creations mamba monster 2 straight away. The mamba is very high quality(6s max) & is easily programmed with the castle link adapter. The hobbyking ones are cheap Chinese garbage that will burn up. Spend more money the first time so there's no need to buy it a second time.
Next
Get yourself four 3s lipo batteries at the highest mah you can find (for range). Make up two series harness' for the batteries and one parallel harness going to the esc. Another thing , invest in a quality charger with a separate power supply and your golden.
