polyester resin and baking soda

has anyone tried mixing baking soda with polyester resin to make a putty/filler for doing fillets?
ive been googling and not seeing anything about it except that baking soda and superglue are supposed to be really strong

I'm no composite expert but why wouldn't you use the numerous available materials that are designed for that exact purpose, they will certainly be stronger and lighter if you want and won't have any risk of damaging the resin's cure by mixing it with a reactive base instead of an inert material like microballoons, fumed silica, or milled/chopped fibers.

CA glue and baking soda is quite weak, probably weaker than just about any other sensible filler material like some milled glass fiber for instance. People only talk about it because it makes the CA glue cure very fast and acts as a filler so you can use ca glue where normally it cannot be used.

I don't see why not. 30 years ago we were mixing it with ca glue to repair plastic parts.

Probably lose strength though.

Why not get some fiberglass or Kevlar pulp?

Baking soda is an accelerant for super glue.

It’s not really strong, it’s quick, brittle but sensitive to water. I’d not use it as a filler, microglass or silica would probably be better in every way.
