Ridstar E26 pro review and opinions

New challenge after loosening the suspension to eliminate the squeak and creek, the tire has started rubbing the controller housing when the suspension compressed under normal pedaling. I suspect the "shock absorber", which is just a spring, is weakening. My temporary solution is to torque down all the rear suspension joints until they bind, eliminating the suspension travel. This brought back the squeak and creek, but it is better than tire rub. My long-term solution will be to replace the spring with something solid, like a section of pipe, and rely on the suspension seat post to do the job.
Field fix for my suspension travel issue. Replacing the spring with a stronger unit isn't an option on the road. This works, for now. Once back at homebase I will make a more permanent upgrade.

28A controllers my arse it's limited to 12A by the factory setting on the display. That is adjustable up to 20 on the display. I changed mine for a few minutes one day and wasn't even sure I could tell if it had changed or not. Which actually made me think the battery current may be the real limiting factor here. The battery could have a current limited BMS of 25 or so amps. I think turning P12 up to 5 did make a noticeable change in acceleration but I then turned it back to 3 where they had it set.

BTW The front motor controller is inside the battery mount housing.

All in all I have been very happy with the bike and it's performance for the cost. I have somewhere over 400 miles at this point.
I'd love to have an Aniioki A9 or a Wired Predator! Sadly my pockets are far to shallow. lol

New minor mod. I relocated the front power cable zip tie off the stanchion, where it natural rubs, and up to the tube above the stanchion. The cable has already worn the paint, and slightly worn the the plastic insulation.

I've had my bike one month today. I was hoping to cross the 500 mile mark but ended up 12 miles short, 488 miles in a month isn't bad though!

The new freewheel lets me travel at 18mph while pedaling but sadly it doesn't stretch the mileage as much as I had hoped. I can pedal at 23mph for a couple minutes but I run out of legs and air pretty quick. Now I know to travel the farthest per charge I have to run down at 13mph. Which I had already assumed.
Anyway did about 33 miles today and the battery was down at 43.5V when I put it on charge. That's likely the lowest it's ever been. Kept an eye on my volts all day and I have a feeling welding up the one way clutch may let it regain a little charge going down the big hills. Several times as I stopped pedaling going down hill the volts would briefly spike up above the battery voltage then settle back at battery voltage or one or two points of a volt higher than it was. It is hard to be sure though.

there are some things I have already changed and others I will change as time moves on.
I love your story so far. I appreciate that you are comparing it to another (previous life) hobby, drag racing.

My clients all want to KNOW what they should get, but really you have to jump in and see what it's like. The only way you'll know is to start somewhere and move from that vantage point.
For your next build (see what I did there?;)) I think you could go with a Grin system that allows you flexibility AND regeneration. (Thank you Justin for allowing me to suggest your quality stuff.)

The front rack I ordered from Walmart arrived today. Did a quick test fit and everything looks like it will clear the big 26x4 tires fine. I need to make or buy a couple simple pipe clamps to install it to the bike's forks.

Does CUR ever read anything? For me, it is always 0000.0 regardless of riding conditions.

Nice little 20+ mile ride down to a town south of us. Then went by the grocery store and loaded the bike down. Pretty sure I was close to if not overloaded and the weight was up way to high. Super thankful not to have face planted on the way home.

Did try taking some video with the new camera. Not sure if that turned out at all the battery died really fast.

Thank the lord for AWD bikes, it makes all the difference in slick & sloppy mud. I've got mud up to my knees... Thankfully the water never quite got to the hubs but it was close several times!

Officially crossed the 500 mile mark today, took one month and one week to get there.

Had a father and son on a road trip stop and talk and get pics and video of the bike and load going down the road. lol They kept calling me a modern day cowboy, which is kind of true I guess I do have cows and other livestock.......

Temperatures dropped riding stopped. I don't do so well in the cold. But as much as I'm missing riding I may try and acquire some cold weather gear and give that a try.

Does anyone have a good method of cleaning and lubing a chain that gets muddy at the start of every ride. It's over two miles to a real road from home. I'm currently using dry lube. Today I noticed the chain is trying to start rusting.

I just take my chain off and rewax if it gets wet . Chains are cheap I am more interested in how long those hub motors last, On those dirt cheap bikes they never say who makes the hub which is the reason I won't trust them. Seems like you're doing a good job putting this bike to the test hope it works out for you.

I use one of these from Walmart. It takes 60 seconds.

Ordered a few more parts and pieces today. Got a chain cleaner similar to the one posted above but from Amazon. Also ordered a new stainless steel chain to stop the rusting issues and to have a spare on hand. I doubt I'll change it until I have to. When the new one goes on I'll order a new spare. lol

Found and ordered a 60T chainring and the only way I could find one that size was by ordering just the chairing so I had to order new crank arms too. The ones that came on my bike have the chainring fixed (welded or pressed on) the new ones the chainring unbolts from so hopefully I wont have to change them again anytime soon. With the new chainring and the 11-28t freewheel I already installed hopefully I can extend my range a bit at higher speeds by pedaling along like I can at lower speeds!

Got a tire & tube patch kit as well and almost ordered a rechargeable air pump. Then decided to stick with the CO2 inflator for now, the reviews on the rechargeable pumps are mixed at best with a lot of complaints about the battery self discharging quickly and stopping working all together pretty quickly.

I even ordered a set of class 3 750W E-bike stickers to hopefully avoid any issues before problems arise! LMAO My bike came without a classification.

Considering ordering this bag but holding off for a minute while watching for something like it a bit larger and waterproof if anyone knows of anything. ROCKBROS Cycling Front Bag Bike Top Tube Bag Double Zipper Storage Bicycle Bag | eBay

ETA: Ebay accepted my lowball offer for the frame bag just now so it's also ordered. I didn't expect them to accept the offer! lol

60 t chainring will keep you off that 11t I can pedal to 42 mph with a 14t cog and a 60 t chainring.

I have significant health issues I expect you can maintain a faster cadence than I can. I am only good for about 60RPM. I still have the 14-28T if that turns into an issue I can always switch it back.

I am using 152 mm cranks pedaling 100 RPM to 120 RPM possible. Staying off the 11t cog is supposed to be good for chain life.

Gotcha I'm sticking with the 170mm like came on the bike. I have Multiple Sclerosis and emphysema and a few other issues so I'll likely never see 100 or 120 rpm! 60rpm I can manage almost if not non stop, one day I may manage 70 or 80rpm if I am lucky. I can tell riding has helped my health though! I can certainly believe that about chain life on the 11t cog!!!

Update on my E26 Pro adventure. Decided to benchmark the minimum range. On a level paved former railbed I set the PAS to 5, engaged both motors, and rode full throttle for distance. I am 6'5" at about 300lbs. The results: 20 miles. This is a useful number to know since it is a consistent worse case scenario. Just thought I'd share.
So with your weight 300lbs is still climbs hills and all pretty well? I am asking on account of I'm considering loading mine down and making some trips. Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated! I need to carry 100-150lbs of gear along with my nearly 200lbs.

Sounds as though you're maintaining a cadence of about 125/sec (for a 26" diameter wheel); not bad (or check your speedo).

Yes. On pavement the front motor addition is awesome. It pulls me up steep grades. On the trails, the front motor is terrifying.

Added Tannus Armour Inserts in addition to Ultraverse Fat Tire Liners. Trail riding the the southwest kills tubes. Everything has thorns. If airless tires were available, I'd go that route.

Just back from a quick trip into town for a few odds and ends. I almost started a new thread just for this post on account of how dangerous sudden very strong wind gusts can be. I got blown clean off the road more times than I could count! Lost my hat and glasses twice. My hat fits tight enough I can literally hang upside down without it coming off yet the wind took it and my glasses twice! I was shocked. I was also surprised I could have used more motor today. This is the first time I have even considered my bike might not have enough power with it having dual 1,000w hub motors. At one point the wind slowed me down from 28.5 to 11 mph with both motors going 100% and I was pedaling too! I also noticed the wind and maybe the temperature really beat on the battery. A round trip to town is only about 12 miles yet the battery after settling only had 46.1V usually I would have had about 49-49.5V when I get back home. I had topped the battery up before leaving so I know it was fully charged. It wasn't / isn't really cold enough for temperature to effect the battery with it being nearly 50f but then again the wind is doing gusts 20-40mph, maybe more! Granted I was traveling much faster than my usual 13-18mph!

Just to reiterate strong winds while biking can be quite alarming and dangerous!

Gusty side winds can be scary. Heading into a strong wind is exhausting. And a wind on your back is priceless, imho.

Good to hear you are enjoying your Ridstar E26 Pro. Is this what you have? Currently on sale for $1200, that's a lot of bike for the money. Ridstar® E Bike E26Pro Folding Fat Tire Mountain Electric Bike

Is it really foldable, where? I do not see any folding mechanism nor do i think it's a good idea.

What's the weight of the bike? I could not find it anywhere online.
That's the bike I have. It does not fold. It weighs just under 100lbs.. Amazon and Ebay both have a better price or did recently.
