I got a Tongsheng TSDZ8 and tried to hook up a Komodo-type controller and keyed switch throttle like works with Bafang, but the throttle does not do with it. $300 paperweight.
If I can't extract the hall plug from a BBSHD controller cleanly within the next couple days, I'm clipping them wires and
I will hook up halls on this next build. Not being able to extract the plug is a $100 loss, but I can sell the shell for $30 probably. If it stands in the way of progress, it's going to be what it is.
Wish I could do something with that Tongsheng.
I suppose I could booger it to be like stock. Eh..me no like that.
I don't even have a bike I wanna put that on.
Grah, I had something good for here but can't find it. :(
It's the halls for a Bafang, because their wires are all different colors.

Okay, after hooking things up again and again, it looks like I got a bad batch of throttles. :(
It wasn't the motor or controller or me. The throttle resistor must be faulty..X2.
I've built 4 bikes the same way, and my latest setup is half of the batch of this I'm trying to use now.
I've done the same 5X and it worked, but it's not now. :(
It's just not working and it's frustrating. I'm gonna order some throttlage and 1 more controller.
Probably end up using the 24-fet Komodo, but not with the throttles I have. :(
Keep a spare controller, just in case..
Also some dual 48v battery plans for the future. That needs a strong frame with a lot of room and rack capability.

Progress! I had a bad throttle. Now the build can proceed some.
I clipped the wires to the bad throttle and tbh, they look like pertectly good hall sensor wires, to the color.
Tbh, i made it work with a BBS03, but I bet the Tongsheng works too.
If I go with the TSDZ8, it'll probably be with a 20Ah 36v battery and a 60T chainring or 48T chainring on the front and I got one of them 10-speed clusters for the back that goes to like 51, but 41 is where it looks like the derailleur and chainring will go.
Kept the bad throttle for sizing up where the brake and shifter should go. :D
Put the rear shifter on today and ran the derailleur cables.
So..what should I do? Advice?
BBS03 with 72v and a wide battery or 36v with Tongsheng and a 36v slimmer battery?
It's going in this:
ace_lg.jpg

35mm tires and caliper brakes. Serious caliper brakes, though, but 35mm tires.
Much room in the triangle. I already put a titanium flatbar on it.
Front dropouts are uneven, that's a pain. I shredded a Chinese file trying to fix that, this metal is hard.
I might could waller it out with a grinder, but at this point, the front wheel is mounted and good. You just have to tighten up 1 side with it straight before the other. Dealt with something like this before..
This bike shipped @ 25 lbs, I'm thinking Tongsheng and 36v.
Maybe later get one of those Hailong 52-volters that are light.
Next step is to wire in the phase wire extensions and seal them up and put the cover back on and hot glue the holes..
I do have a hall plug and that throttle cable to booger up the halls with.
Not sure if worth it.
IMO, 10 extra connections is 10 extra moving parts that could fail.
Any thoughts on doing the halls or not? How big is the benefit?
I know it will go without them. At least now I know it will go. :D
Is the tsdz8 not 5 lbs lighter than BBS03? That and the lighter 36v battery is what I'm leaning towards.

Can't tell you much about the other things but if you go for the tsdz8 then you should go for a 48v battery.
Its often throws overcurrent errors on steeper climbs with a 52v battery but works perfectly on a 48v.
With the 36v you loose the top end and from my experience a 36V battery with the same Wh capacity as a 48V battery you loose about 20-25% of range so it's less efficient on 36v.

Well, the government decided to route my accessories and necessary controllers and throttles and parts for using the TSDZ8 and picture-taking SD cards through Massachusetts and Washington but I live in Tampa.
I order this stuff on the 2nd, of December, it was at the town distribution center in Ybor City on the 7th, and then it ends up in Massachusetts, and definitely not coming back as fast as it got to there.
It's going to be BBS03 and either 36v 30A 20Ah battery, or a heavy whompin' 50A 72v battery.
Do not..well..don't have anything in between much.
Battery mounting is the last thing. I'll have this thing going before the parts I ordered for Christmas get here.
It's not Alibaba's fault, it's the Post Office's fault.
The Postal Service in the U.S. has gone steadily downhill since Obama was president.

So, I made this motor spin today with a throttle, but it lopes if you twist wide open and you really have to hold it just right to get the max the thing will spin.
It's fine if you hold like 5/8 throttle and listen to it, but if the throttle is held wide open it starts loping and bogging. :(
Why do none of these things have limiter screws?
Are there any with limiter screws, or can/do I put an inline VR on the red wire of the throttle or where would one be put to fix this??
The throttle itself is a VR. What can I do so it goes smooth with the handle cranked?
You'd have to increase resistance on the positive of the throttle, right?
The simplest solution is the best one! What is it?
