Hey guys,

my order for my first Q100 motor is out and I trembling with fear at the first time I'll build a wheel myself.
I would like to ask so, if anybody knows, what length the spokes on the Q100 should be for a 28" wheel. I've read that the Q100 is not symmetrical.
Can you also recommend some suitable spokes and a nice rim? I'm not planning to cheap out on those items.

You need to measure the ERD of the rim as well as some other dimensions of the hub

Check out this link:

I built a Q100 into a 36h 700c Mavic A319 - erd is 604.5mm, pcd of the hub is 108mm can't remember flange width.

Spoke length came out at 262.4mm left and 262.1mm right - so basically no real difference. Spoking pattern was two cross. Ended up builing with a mix of 263mm and 262mm spokes as that was waht the lbs had in stock.

Thanks Cal. I'll be checking out a few different calculators to see the differences they come up with.

Thanks Amiga for the measurements.
I found a diagram on the BMS website.
It appears under "download", when you're looking at the motor.

But there are three different drawings for Q100 front motors. hmmm

So you have spokes that are ~3mm short on one side? Did you dish the wheel?

What connector did you use there. Looks like for a car.

I noticed that too.. Looks like a headlight pigtail.

Sorry - Typo -I meant 262.4mm and 262.1mm - I'll edit the post! And yes the wheel required dishing.

Yeah - waterproof 3 pin connector left over from the Westfield build.

I have the motor here now :))))))) Finally
So, now I'm calculating.

The ERD of the rim ist 589mm

This is, what http://lenni.info/edd/ produced for me

Number of spokes: 36
Crosses: 2
Spoke length left: 259.5
Spoke length right: 258.9

Could somebody check this for me?

I wouldn't recommend 2 cross for a motor. I'm sure it has been done, but the angles required added to the relatively larger hub means bending spokes.

Also, could you include the measurements that you got on the hub motor (1 so we can check your calculations and 2 so that future searchers have the info here)

Btw, best price/service I have found on spokes is DansComp (if you are in the states). You have to call in to order and to make sure they have the sizes and can cut it down, but I haven't ran into one they weren't able to supply. The young guys on the phone are really helpful and they know their stuff. The one that took orders for my HT3525 asked out of curiosity "What kind of wheel you building with these short spokes?"... I said electric motor and he instantly understood. It's stuff like that which shows they have a good understanding of the products they sell. I'm sure every one of those guys rides bikes. I've placed 3 orders with them and have not been disappointed yet.

A Q100 is small though - the flange width is only 108mm. Hell, I had 3x on my Tongxin and that gave me no issues:-

As long as you're using good quality spokes a little bend isn't an issue.

Ok, I guess I stand a bit corrected :D

Is that a 700 rim?

+1 on DansComp. By far the best prices on spokes that I am aware of and the double butted Sapim spokes I got look good. Came with nipples too, which I did not expect. Amazing bargain.
