I remember saying back in 2011 that there will be a premier class of electric motorcycle racing by the end of the decade. I love it when predictions come good :D

Energica makes sense - while their bikes aren't setting the world alight with performance, they have the resources to manufacture hundreds of them. Once they open the class up to different makes and models (and home-built machines) it will be VERY exciting!

After having heard about Dorna's venture into Ebike racing 2 years ago, I wrote to them offering my services as design consultant. It was a long shot but having looked at the Energica EGO Im relieved that I could still come up with a better bike.
The road going version weighs a staggering 258kg but thats with on board charger. Take that and the lights off the bike and put racing fairing on, Im predicting a track weight of about 200kg. For the power its putting out its not going to be much of a head turner but it does have 11.7kWh of LiPo on board, probably also not very necessary on a race bike.
I would love to see in race battery swaps, something Formula E missed.

This new for 2018? I think there is actually such a thing as love at first sight. Or is it possible pure lust? It is one for sure.
Ohh mama!

I'm pretty disappointed in the bike and format choice. The whole thing just sounds boring right now. I'm guessing they are planning to open it up like Formula E, so maybe it'll better in the future.

Rippers' links worked for me.

Mixed feelings on a 'Premiere Class' as a startup. Those have a history of problems. Formulae and 2nd class status actually served it well through all the griping about how quiet they were, etc. There might have been less of that if there had been less hype.

Electric bikes have raced, maybe there's some foundation.

Base street bike selected is 145HP and more than 250kg. For sure race performance will be improved but also estimated race autonomy is only 10 laps...

Marc Marquez Motogp honda is 230CV for 160kg(limited by FIM)

A street legal superbike is 200HP for 200kg

I'm in love with my BBShd ebike but these figures tell us how far electric is compared with gasoline when you talk about high performance.

But... Dorna guys know how to make a good show(what a 2017 season!) so maybe they surprise us...

I thought for sure Dorna would go to someone like Suter or Kalex to design a ground up unobtainium race bike, basically an electric MotoGP bike with quick swap battery but they went the easy route and got a sanitized production model off the show room floor.
Nobody got their hands dirty. At least theres always room for improvment.

To make the series attractive to the spectators they’ve got to do something a bit different with it imo. Similar to the rd lc Yamaha revival with ex-racers swapping elbows. This way chassis development may accelerate too. If it’s another also ran series with unknown riders I can’t see the fans getting too interested. Most of them still miss Castrol R after all...

To make it popular you make a cross between a seniors tour with a few guys not at the top anymore against some up and comers, maybe even a few never weres nonetheless popular.

Bum power to weight ratio isn't such a problem if expectations are kept under control. And yeah, elbows rubbin' always helps. Maybe even some knee draggin'.

Ex 250GP rider Sebastian Porto show boats around Argentina GP track on the new Energica EGO Moto E bike.
