What ever.. These are sold at some places for what I said or occasionaly on ebay for $200.
POWER: 24-48 VDC BRUSHLESS MOTOR. NEW ADVANCED BRUSHLESS DESIGN of the DISCONTINUED B&S ETEK motor. Now back in production. 15HP peak, 6HP cont. 90% EFFICIENCY for much longer battery life. BRUSHLESS DESIGN = 0 maintenance.

3. what controller do i need and how much is it?

If you're looking to replace the stock, 250w motor on your currie ebike with an 11,500 watt ETEK, sounds like Maytag here might be looking to sell his brushed (I think) ETEK. Depending on your skill and equipment, mounting it might pose a slight challenge. But so would riding it.
For the brushed ETEK, probably a 200-400 amp, 48 volt Alltrax adjustable controller would be my first choice. Don't know much about larger bldc controllers for the brushless ETEK....

"...My last attempt for a long range scooter was a etek'd modded full size Lepton scooter. ... I no longer ride any of my escooters and will most likely be selling them or parting them out."

A smaller, lighter motor might mount a lot easier. But I don't offhand know any good non-hub motors for the currie -- certainly no higher power bolt-on replacements come to mind.

No! for lots of reasons. Way too big a motor and too heavy. See http://www.evdeals.com/Motors.htm#36V-48V

For a more reasonable selection. 48 volts at 35 amps pretty powerful for an ebike - works well for me :)

Gotta respect kisshu's big thinking though! And it is doable, it's just insane to do.

Yo

An Etek coupled to a currie would destroy it in about 2 seconds! no way hose daves insane a cycle is quick but he thinks the X5 is quicker, I personally think Eteks shouldnt be put on push bike frames, its way too much for a flimsy bike frame, Eteks are motorcycle motors when they are not being used to scrub floors I think its better to keep them that way, a kol or a bmc when modded is more than enough for the currie.

LMAO Like this wouldn't attract a cop's attention. "NO, officer this is just
a legal e bike. hahaha.

Drape the rear with a pannier and pretend like nothin's the matter :)

ha ha ha yeah thats abit too big for this bike

so who knows about mounting a brushed motor 600 - 1kw
on this bike?( i'm assuming i'd pay a lot more for a bldc and controller 2x)

id like a controller that would beable to do 36-48 volts and put how many amps say assuming i want to beable to push the motor up to 2kw at times?

hi randy i'm looking for other e-bike forums that feature motor designs other than hub

also can you give me some advice on modifying a mongoose gb 24v 450 currie electrodrive?

either replacing the stock crappy 250 watt motor with a 600 - 1kw or
putting the motor near the crank case?

also i like your motor is it expensive to build?

here's a pic bike: http://www.cicle.org/cicle_content/images/mongoose_copy.jpg

i thought it might be good because its ev designed with longer frame and more room to tinker around plus reinforced.
if you have a better suggestion for starter frame please let me know.

i have some hills so i want to run 36-48 volts.

thnaks

looks like gearing reduction buit in

so now what do you think about upgrading the motor?
on nooo her's another version now i'm confused! [this was the 9 years ago version]
here is uspd prodrive [out of production]they use a chain tensioner that wears out

Hi all
kisshu what do you have at the moment, post some closeups of what you are using at the moment, we can see from there as to where to go.
From what I have read the best motors for an electrodrive convertion is the 750w rated gray BMC http://www.evdeals.com/Motors.htm#36V-48V%20Super%20BMC%20750W%20(Bike,%20USPD,%20Pro-Drive)]
Other motors can be used the Hi-Koll will go up to 48v and if you lookin the right places they can be piced up at very resonable prices.

other options would be if i could get an ev frame extended with batteries attatched to telescoping seat post ...
do you know of any suppliers that you could work with?
either that or i could unweld that plate thats on there - ithink it may be welded in 1 place i'll see -hacksaw whatever.

heres another angle of the drive i think it a thread mount not through the
hub
looks like currie made the mistake of not building the planetary gear into the drive.

img_2330_139.jpg

from the looks of the mounting plates it seems like the lashout drive would mount on the plate where the planetary gear is mounted
- the difference with the currie seems to be an offset engine mount to the planetary gear
but bothe look to be mounted on outside of plate.

the lashout propulsion sytem is better from what Andy at electrik motion said and i assume there are other gearing changes that could be made?

here's the engine currie slapped on the mounting plate:
MOT-24250Gb.jpg

http://www.electricscooterparts.com/MOT-24250G.htm
i'm not sure if another motor with planetary gear might fit?

here's the lashout planetary gear - it need a larger hole cut through the plate to stick through - so is it feasable to cut a bigger hole or better to replace the place for $20?
Electrec%20planetary.JPG

other option would be an offset planetary gear in a larger motor but i've only seen this:
http://www.electricscooterparts.com/images/MOT-36750Ga.jpg

the currie plate appears to have a 2- 2&1/2 inch hole maybe the lashout planetary will fit?

The grey can BMC motor is very good when used with an external controller. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if parts for the USPD drive will be around much longer.

I believe the Electrec made in Taiwan, used to be Lashout, is interchangeable with the old Currie drive. Every e bike dealer is selling them, so I figure there will be parts for years to come. Probably for copyright reasons they don't use the old brand name for the drive. I use it for offroad riding and it's a blast with just the 24V batteries, I'll eventually put in the 48V BMC and ext controller after warranty is over. I wouldn't even try the hub motor bike i have to go places where this one goes, gravel roads, hills, grass, etc.

well, what bike drive/engine are you running fetcher and instant karma?

now i have to wait till wallmart gets some more bikes in - someone bought one the other day, trashed the derialeur and swapped it for the last one.

I'm using a modified BMC grey can motor with external controller.
The drive is a single reduction belt to the rear wheel.
