Personally, I'd be a bit uncomfortable with all those exposed brass screw contacts, aluminum frame and metal framed bike and the only insulation to keep them all from shorting each other is air. Just too many opportunities to get zapped in my opinion. But I applaud your creativity! :)
I've got a 29" wheel beach cruiser and am looking for a cheap way to motorize it. The rims are a bit odd in that besides being 29" in diameter they are also 48 spoked and the rims are a deep 1" wide by 1.75" deep. The rear hub is a cheap Shimano clone with a coaster brake. I'm guessing it'd...
Thanks Adrian. My concern now is that this is starting to look more costly than I had hoped. Not your bits, but the overall costs look to be around $500+. I may have to look at less expensive options, although I'm finding that nothing is cheap when it comes to 29er's. ;)
Thanks Adrian, I misplaced the link to your website somehow. Are you selling your commuter parts kits yet? If so how much does it cost and what is shipping to the US?
Hi,
I'm thinking about adding a DIY friction drive to my Kent Genesis Onyx 29er Cruiser. My inspiration for the project comes from those who used HobbyKing Outrunner motors and Lithium batteries. First thing I need to decide is on the motor, batteries, motor controller and electronics...
Hi Charles,
I'll be watching this thread with interest. I built an underwater ROV using RC brushless motors and topside power a couple years ago, fun project. ;)
One thing I've learned from buying and selling on forums like this is that everyone has their own interpretation of what "good communications" and "good business practices" are. Also some people may not have the same access to the internet as you and I may have. Lastly, "stuff" happens...
If you go to PayPal and start a dispute, one of the first things the website will show you is the seller's phone number so you can call him and (hopefully) resolve the issue between yourselves. That's probably the best and fastest way to settle things. He may have perfectly reasonable reasons...
Thanks Adrian, your build was one of the ones that inspired me to give it a try. Now all I need to do is sell my almost brand new gas friction drive so I will have the money to do it. :)
Yup, the bike is a Kent / Genesis Onyx 29er Cruiser, purchased from Walmart. The front fork is steel, but the rest of the frame is Aluminum. I spent weeks looking at different ways to set up direct drives when I was looking at ICE power but ran into numerous issues. In order to use a direct...
I think one of the limitations you might run into is that a super knobby off road tire won't work very well with the friction cylinder. That's not an issue for me as I don't really need super knobby tires. There's a video in a recent thread where the fellow is flying at 40 kph through a wooded...
