Yeah I got some better forks, find my build thread. The head tube on my new forks is like 9.5 inches and it is still about 1/4 inch too short, I am going to tear it down and cut off 1/4 inch from the frame. I am still waiting for my batteries :( but it is winter so I haven't even ridden except once.
I am of the opinion that gearing puts the finishing touches on an ebike as well as makes it illegal , it is way too easy to go over 20 mph with gearing. Of course having 20hp on a ebicycle is crazy and no gears are required but the practical ebike with 3hp and two or three speeds seems to be...
Wonderful piece of work there. I was reading your conversation about dealing with the bike shop, we have a BMX specific bike shop near boulder, joes bikes. I went in there trying to solve the drive problem explained my situation and it was if I was talking a foreign language. I really think...
An 8mm shaft is easier to deal with if you are going to do a Grinhill copy with a roller clutch... Would an 8mm shaft be big enough for a 3205? Roller clutches are much easier to find for an 8mm shaft and the smaller outer diameter is easier to fit into a pulley and still have enough material...
Well after some digging around I found these sprockets.
MOSH BMX 42t Sprocket Chainwheel ALL BLACK NOS
VOXOM MID SCHOOL BMX 43T SPROCKET BLACK ANODIZE
It will be much easier to just drill the hole in the middle since the 4 opposing holes should fit the adapter perfectly (crosses fingers) which...
Hey Gary,
Maybe you can have a batch made to adapt directly to 104mm chainrings so that they are even easier to use.
I am going to have to modify the easy cheese but I am worried I won't get the alignment just right... Anyhow just a thought.
Thanks,
Joe
Yeah that is a sweet build. If you want to freak out hold the front wheel still and twist the handle bars :)
What forks are you going to upgrade to or do you plan to?
What are the power switch and relay rated at? I need to get something like that since my power switch is connecting the cable...
Right now I am waiting for a piece to convert to right side drive, going to try a SA 3spd. I thought for sure I was just going to do the left hand drive but it was turning out to be not as advantageous as doing right and being able to put 3 speeds on it. And the battery pack is not built yet...
I found this shifter for the SA 3 speed

And I found this 20" pre-built wheel for so cheap it sounds too good to be true.

edit add sprocket sa 16t sprocket...
OK well I suppose I will just get a nexus and find out :) I don't know the length of the shift and I also don't know if it is forgiving...
I will post back here when I find out.
Thanks for the ideas I will be doing one of the things you mentioned if I can't do the trigger shifter.
Joe
I am working out a right side dual drive to a nexus 3 speed hub (or some other 3 speed hub) and I have not seen it so I thought I would ask.
Can I use a 3 speed front derailleur trigger shifter to change gears on the nexus 3 speed?

Since the mounting spot will need a pair of angle pieces I need to go find a metal shop in Boulder, CO. Once I have those I can machine them to fit where the old motor was. I will take some pix this weekend but I am not sure if I will be working on this or the grinhill copy. I think I will...
