Copper tape on nickel strips for cell connection?

Thanks AmberWolf. After looking into it more you're right, even though the adhesive has decent conductivity it's still so much higher than the nickel that not so much current will flow through the tape. As you say, soldering a copper wire to the nickel plate before welding is probably a much...

Copper tape on nickel strips for cell connection?

I'm planning on building a battery pack as soon as I get my spot welder. It's a Sunkko 709A, from other threads it sounds like 0.15mm nickel is the thickest I can hope to weld with it. That's enough for my pack but I'd prefer to overspec the conductors more. Does it make sense to put copper...

New battery build - questions and recommendations?

Hi all, I'm thinking of building a new, larger battery pack for my 36V "500W" BBS02 Yuba Mundo touring cargo bike. My current plan is to buy a Crystalyte RB3 battery bag from Grin Tech (since I need to place an order with them anyway) and a bunch of Samsung INR18650-30Q cells from nkon.nl...

    Vendors with EM3EV-compatible frame packs?

About a year ago I bought a BBS02 kit and a couple of frame pack batteries from EM3EV. The kit is still going strong with about 3000km on it, and I'm enjoying it immensely. This summer, I started having problems with one of the battery packs. It would cut out after a couple of Ah of usage, and...

    BBS02 with horizontal dropouts?

I have a BBS02 running super smoothly on my current bike, but I wish it had more carrying capacity. So I'm considering buying a Yuba Mundo and moving the kit. The mundo would have derailleur shifting at the rear, and I'd like to use the original mundo wheels and hubs with the 14mm axle for...

Is this really all I need to make an e-bike?

Careful with running the BBS without brake sensors. I did the same thing after I got it, worked fine. But then after a couple of months I had an incident where the motor was engaged with no pedaling and throttle off. I was pretty close to a busy street and it could have ended badly (took me way...

BBS02 PAS mode disable for throttle only operation

So you get powered assist even in PAS 0? That's interesting. My BBS02 from EM3EV does not draw power in PAS 0 when pedaling. So perhaps you can get the same functionality by reprogramming your motor in a similar way?

    Fuel cell chargers?

Unfortunately I haven't found any prices or specs posted... after looking for a while, I get the feeling a lot of these are concepts/prototypes advertised to gauge interest before actual manufacturing begins. If anyone knows a ready-made portable fuel cell of 40W+ continuous power I can buy...

    Fuel cell chargers?

Has anyone any experience with fuel cells as a power source? Tried using it to charge ebike batteries? Looks like it's possible to get some that output a couple hundred watts (haven't found any complete systems yet, only components), which should be plenty to charge my batteries while wild camping.

    Bafang aftermarket chainrings?

Just giving an update to my issue. I got the lekkie 42t recently and have now ridden 250km on it. My chainline issues are completely solved, haven't had a single skip. The chainline is much better. Also, even though only going 44t -> 42t, I must say I notice the slightly reduced gearing, and...

    BBS02 pedaling ability

Ah, yes, that's much clearer :) I'll try to answer your questions, perhaps others with more knowledge will also join in. I'm no expert but think I understand this enough to answer. > 1. How the motor will handle such a small chainring? It should handle it very well. The controller limits the...

    BBS02 pedaling ability

If you just want the ability to turn off/on the assist, you can do that without any modifications. Just set PAS level 0, or turn off the motor. Then you can pedal with a dead/missing battery. Maybe I'm not understanding your question though.

    Bafang aftermarket chainrings?

Thanks alfantastic. The chain drops are not restricted to the lowest gear, but definitely more frequent when in the low gears. Unfortunately I do feel I need the lowest (34T) rear gear, as I have some serious hills around here and also like to go for some offroad fun now and then. So hopefully...

    Bafang aftermarket chainrings?

Thanks opperpanter, I hadn't seen those. The edibike and edibikeclub ones seem to be the same chainring, similar to the lekkie/alcedoitalia ones. The dual ring option sounds really nice, but I worry that it's probably going to have a worse chainline than the original even on the 42t. I ended...

    Bafang aftermarket chainrings?

I'm looking at an aftermarket chainring for the BBS02 to correct the chain angle on my 73mm BB bike. Hoping it will fix my issues with the chain dropping off the front chainring once in a while. It looks like there are a few options here, the most promising ones seem to be the lekkie 42t bling...

Bafang BBS02 - non-bafang aftermarket crank arms available?

Hi all, Thanks for the info. I originally used a torx screwdriver to tighten the screws as far as I could. The second time around, after the crank worked itself loose, I tightened them much more with a ratchet wrench. Unfortunately my ratchet wrench does not have a tension meter, and they seem...

Bafang BBS02 - non-bafang aftermarket crank arms available?

Hi all, I had my left crank arm work itself loose after around 700km. I got a replacement bafang crank and installed it, making sure to tighten it extra hard this time. It seems to me that these crank arms are of very low quality, they're heavy but still made of very soft metal. It's very easy...

Strongest chain and cogset for 7-speed middrive bke?

Thanks everyone. I ended up ordering a SRAM PowerGlide 730 12-32 cassette, it was the only one in stock at any of the shops I usually deal with. Also went for a Wippermann conneX 8sE chain, since they market it as for middrive ebikes (though only to 250W), so it must be built for strength...

Strongest chain and cogset for 7-speed middrive bke?

It seems to me there's very little selection of components for 7-speed shifter bikes like my trek navigator 2.0. Suppose you had a 7-speed with BBS02, money is not an issue and you wanted to upgrade your drivechain to something strong and durable. What components would you use, and why?

Christiania Cargo Bike Conversion (Conhis 350w, LiNiMnCo Bat

I'm also very interested in practical cargo bike builds. I'm in Iceland and have no car, so a cargo-runner would be useful. I'd prefer torque over speed and go with a BB motor though. Please let us know how it goes, especially how it does loaded uphill.

    Estimating BBS02 range

Hi all, I just ordered a 36V 500W BBS02 kit from EM3ev, with 36V 16.5Ah bottle battery. I will install this on a Trek Navigator 2.0 (26"). I live in Iceland and my primary goal is long range. I'm about 90kg. I am in decent cycling shape. What kind of range could I expect from this setup...
