Bafang aftermarket chainrings?

I'm looking at an aftermarket chainring for the BBS02 to correct the chain angle on my 73mm BB bike. Hoping it will fix my issues with the chain dropping off the front chainring once in a while.

It looks like there are a few options here, the most promising ones seem to be the lekkie 42t bling ring and the alcedoitalia 42t. Does anyone have experience with both and can provide some info? Which one would you recommend? Is the chain angle the same for both? They're both pretty expensive, lekkie perhaps a little bit cheaper but not by much.

Any other good options I am missing here?

I believe all these 42T chainrings move the chainline inwards by about 9mm.

There's another two 42T options:

There's also a dual ring option (42T + 48T):

These guys see they have a 38T chain ring, chainline is 2mm outwards compared to stock:

I myself am still in doubt what to buy.

I bought 2 BCD104 adapters, but the chainline is quite bad for those.

Thanks opperpanter, I hadn't seen those.

The edibike and edibikeclub ones seem to be the same chainring, similar to the lekkie/alcedoitalia ones.

The dual ring option sounds really nice, but I worry that it's probably going to have a worse chainline than the original even on the 42t.

I ended up ordering a lekkie ring from empoweredbike with express shipping because I was getting really tired of having to re-sit the chain on the chainring and getting my hands all greasy. So hopefully all will be good by the end of the week (fingers crossed :)

I'll report back on whether my chainline issues are solved for good after I get some miles on it.

There's also this one that supposedly improves chainline by 14mm?

On my MTB the stock 44T is already almost touching the frame. So moving it inwards 9mm or even 14mm won't fit...

If the chain is only dropping when using the lowest gear on the cluster, then you could always adjust your derailleur stop, so that it doesn't move across to the lowest gear.

Even with an Alcedo Italia 42T, I still found the chain dropped every now and again on the lowest gear, so i just adjusted it out. I think you mentioned you have a 500w, so you'll not miss it due to the immense torque of your Bafang.

The Bling Ring might solve your problem, but if it doesn't, then give my advice a go

Thanks alfantastic.

The chain drops are not restricted to the lowest gear, but definitely more frequent when in the low gears. Unfortunately I do feel I need the lowest (34T) rear gear, as I have some serious hills around here and also like to go for some offroad fun now and then. So hopefully I won't need to, but I'll keep your advice in mind if the lekkie ring is not enough.

This would help your hill climbing.http://www.alcedoitalia.it/shop/accessori-bbs/corona-41-denti-per-bafang-centrale-bbs01-e-bbs02/

Alcedo Italia make 36T chainrings, although their website is not built for international users, since it's in Italian and no shipping options. I am trying to order this one, but it goes kind of hard until now. For you knowledge, they offer only the expensive DHL shipping (at least for my country).

Also, for those who concerned that all the smaller chainrings options come in soft alloys, Wolftooth make 30T narrow/wide stainless steel chainring, which can be installed with an adapter.

I have left my front derailleur in place with the standard 44T Bafang ring and never had a chain drop even though I ride lots of rough tracks and small drops.

So I put a front derailleur on and still dropped a chain recently. I also need the biggest gear out of my 8 speed cassette. What I did was I took the second to smallest cog 12t and moved it next to the largest cog so everything is pushed out a little and now it's a 7 speed with better chain alignment, hopefully I'll drop my chain less.

Just giving an update to my issue. I got the lekkie 42t recently and have now ridden 250km on it. My chainline issues are completely solved, haven't had a single skip. The chainline is much better.

Also, even though only going 44t -> 42t, I must say I notice the slightly reduced gearing, and it's much better. Feels much more appropriate for me and the motor both, given my terrain. Very happy with it so far.
