Because a major cause of BMS failure is reconnecting it to the pack. Most of the cheap ones can only handle around 12v on each channels

What do you mean by "channel" here? The 2-3 "main power" negatives, or the N+1 balance leads?

Or is this a distinction that applies to "separate port" as opposed to common port BMSs?
