Donor bikes in order of when they were converted:
~1990 specialized stumpjumper
2001 Trek 4300
2001 Specialized FSR
2013 Specialized Rockhopper 29er
2009 Fuji Thrill Lt

Starting with the Fuji Thrill:
400 W MAC motor
Rohloff hub with 16T
Wide freewheeling bottom bracket with 38T drive and 32T motor reduction sprocket
Gearbox is 11:1 planetary with a 13T freewheel
24 V, 15 Ah battery from BMS (not recommended, but I had it)
Magura throttle

Specialized Rockhopper 29er
differences:
Wide freewheeling bottom bracket with 32T drive and 32T motor reduction sprocket
Nuvinci rear hub with 18T (I tried the 20T but that made the Nuvinci spew oil on very steep climbs)
This bike has a lower top speed than the Rohloff equipped Fuji but climbs hills just as well. This bike was crushed while being towed on the back of our car.

Same specs as the Specialized Rockhopper now. This is my wife's bike.

This bike was the mule. It's had at least three different setups.
The first was a chain reduction drive:

This version had thousands of miles on it. Mostly commuting in SF. It started with a primary belt reduction but I switched to chain for reliability at the expense of noise.

Then I put the planetary setup on it:

This bike had a few other batteries too. One 15 Ah from Ping, and then a 15 Ah from BMS.

Finally I gave it the same basic new kit:

The 1990 Stumpjumper had a mid-mounted motor driving a left hand drive. It used NiMH batteries. It had a primary belt drive reduction and then chain to the rear. That bike was stolen from my front yard in San Mateo.
