looking for a kite system for my boat
this one looks like a remote control system from Kite-Boat .com

https://www.kite-boat.com/index.php/en

not really seeing any competitors
anyone know of any?
be nice to see if there is an automated system out there

It's been a while since I've seen these guys ...
https://project.kiteboat.com/
They were a sister team to Makani Kite and would share resources such as the laser, waterjet and CNC machines.
Makani has been shut down a couple years ago.

For a full automated wind powered boat ... although not a kite per se.

binged some you youtube and found the Liberty Kite

quite pricey for something that is limited in its usefulness, youre stuck with downwind only and for my boat i would need a minimum 10m to 20m kite

after looking at, how to kite board videos, i dont think it will be hard to just make a remote controlled kite.
found an 8m kiteboarding kit on craigslist for cheap so im heading off to buy it and see what it will do

wound up buying an 8 sqm diesel slingshot kite boarding kit for cheap off craigslist
from what i could see from one site i needed a minimum 10 sqm sail

rc wing commander gave me a quote according to my specs
they stated a 9 sqm kite kit would be the equivalent of a 20 kw electric motor

Has anyone tried this yet? Given that large ships are now using this it seems worth the time. I still find very little on this for normal pleasure boats

havent tried it yet, was going to but what kept me from trying it was the time and the inconvenience of the kite i have. i have to inflate the kite before launching it and then you have the bow railings to deal with so you dont rip the kite, snag the fabric and manage all the lines when launching it. i have it so i will try it but
if something is a pain in the ass to deploy, use and put away youre more likely not to use it
something like the liberty kite seems to be the most user friendly unless you spend big $$ for a fully automated system

I understand completely. I reached a dealer for the automated system and it seemed very expensive for technology that really hasn't been market-proven. I have never seen one here on the East Coast. I am converting an 18K lb trawler to electric and would like an alternate form of propulsion to add. Kite propulsion seems intriguing. I figured if I could find someone who has one, I could get some intel on the matter and build my own. I would make my system open source for others too. But NOBODY is using them.

Or maybe he found sails are easier to control at the size needed- 9 sq meters is getting pretty big, although windsurfers/foiling have multiple techs to control things, along with modern expressions of traditional sailing rigs- then there is the most obvious approach, kite sailing, but all these things require some acquired skill….maybe AI will be able to help? Some folk are fiddling with what look like tethered RC airplanes, which might be more amenable to automated control, but storing an aircraft that big?

Hey you guys, I am currently working on a consumer friendly kiteboat prototype, launching is easier with two people, and mounting is a serious concern but check it out

that is interesting, are you using phaserunner suite?
Yes, It's actually perfect as the machine is both hand crank (pedal power) and electric.. but Im having some issues with speed controls.. I spoke with a gentlman named Justin at grin and he helped me out with custom parameters.. but theres still some tinkering to do.
