Lithium Titanate

2.2Volts fully charged - so the energy density isn't as high as LiFPO4, if that is correlated...the power density is very high, but the energy density not very...lifespan 10-20 thousand cycles, and good at low temps as well.

A123 is developing a nanophosphate LTO cell as we write. The main intended market is automotive starter batteries. Big instant power and better cold temp performance than the LFP the company is using today, as well as longer life.

Certain versions of the Mitsubishi MiEV use LTO batteries. I'd like to find one of those packs in a junkyard.

Only in Japan.

There is one car in the states that uses Lithium Titanate batteries. You won't be finding one in a junk yard. ;)

I have friends in Japan

Seriously, it's too bad there aren't any of those here in the states. They'd be great standby power batteries.

Yes, I didn't realise that only Japan had the titanate until a few weeks ago. From 2011 onwards they diveraged the I MiEV into the 10.5kW/hr 'M' trim and the 16KW/hr 'G' trim. The M is very basic and much cheaper whereas the G trim is a much higher spec on a par with the LEAF but much more expensive.

You could import one but you would have to get a Mitsubishi dealer to change the software to an American version as everything would be in Japanese otherwise. Plus the error codes during diagnosistics would be in Japanese also.

I will say that the Japanese have a fantastic method of grading cars at auctions - certainly when it comes to appearances. Link for reference: http://auctions.jdmauctionwatch.com/aj-52ROhKJ6Xe8s8l.htm

9000+ cycles and 20+ years. A matter of opinion.

that was an amazingly detailed inspection they recorded.

that is an exceptionally well cared for vehicle and has only 5,000 kilometers so it is in like new condition.

wish they were appearing here like that.

none of the auctions i follow has such detail, just multiple pictures so you have to go to the yard before the auction and look closely to see what is gonna be up for bid.

They are great for a inside the body heart monitor or assist type thing. Ask Dick chenny if he is still alive and not some cold steel robot mouth piece. Then he would have a robot heart. Makes sense.

Doc got some Lithium Titanate cells a while ago, cant find the post but I don't think hes going to be putting them in his ebikes anytime soon, or maybe I read it wrong.
I like LFP's post on the subject.
