MaxE died while charging....how to test?

So after 4 years of super powerful plug and play bliss it decided to die. Plugged in to charge (10 amp charge) and after a few minutes the screen went blank. Breaker was tripped and would immediately trip when trying to reset. I’ve read of others meeting their fate this way so decided to pull and CSI the controller. This was run with a 20s15p 30Q pack and a QS205 3.5T for 2 or maybe 3k miles? I never looked at total miles....not sure why? So pulled the controller off and it looks perfect.........I see no signs of something being blown, popping or otherwise not normal looking. Pictures attached for your viewing pleasure.

So how do I check this thing out with a multi-meter? I checked across the positive and negative input and shows a 0 Ohmes indicating a dead short? Positive or negative to each phase shows 185, 0 and 186. Between phases it shows 412, 184 and 186.

So what does this tell me and are there other things I can check? Not sure if this is trash or savable?

Thanks,

Tom

Inside it doesn't look bad, have you spoken with adaptto support to ask them how much is going to cost to repair?
I've heard they still repair controllers.

I sent something on the adaptto page and used messenger on Facebook. Heard nothing so far.

If I can not get this repaired I’m really going to miss the ease of this system.....hopefully I can find some thing more powerful to make up for that?

Tom

I think Alex knows their email address. ask him for details.
If you cannot repair it finally I think it worth to wait for the 24F nucular controller. At the moment is the only one with the same capabilities more power and much better efficiency from what they say.

I’m thinking about that one and the ASI 4000 or 8000 (overkill) seems to be a good one.

I’ll try Alex....thanks for that.

Good morning!

What has happened finally with your MaxE?
My midi-e failed last week while I was riding, I was lucky that I wasn't going very fast because it has blocked the motor.
I think some of the mosfets are dead because the battery cables have shorted out.

Do you have any idea if we can install better mosfets to make it more reliable ?

I probably need to know more than I do for the high power that I run.....I have no idea on your question. After about a month and a half I just paid Adaptto yesterday for the repair. It took about 2 weeks to get the payment to them....international banking BS! They said, “We replaced 6 fets and one driver.” I asked multiple times how they thought those blew since it happened while charging.....I received no answer so I have no idea on what to do to prevent it from happened get again???

I’m pretty excited about getting back on the road.

Looks like you have a short somewhere. Most likely one or more MOSFETs are shorted, which may or may not blow the driver chip.
If you measure from drain to source on each FET, you should be able to find which ones are shorted. A good one will measure like a diode. A bad one will measure like a short.

Telling if the driver is blown or not is a little more tricky. You have to first remove the shorted FETs, then try measuring between the source and gate connections where the FETs go and look for shorts. Good if you remove all the FETs and compare between phases. Also test the gate resistors. A blown gate resistor is a bad sign.

Can you tell me how much money did they ask to see if it worths to send it also for repair?

To be honest after what happened I don't trust the controller so much because it happened while I was riding and it was dangerous.

You are lucky because yours had a quiet death.

Also if you consider that it has done only 7000km with a locked firmware that means it's not a reliable machine.

Mine was 10500 Rubles which was $168 and some change after exchange rate. Mine died after almost 4 years.....I’m pretty easy on mine with some really go fast moments......I’m already on the list for the 24 FET Thermo Nucular Controller.

I think it’s worth fixing for what that is worth.....I did not have anywhere close to your mileage I don’t think.
