Going to buy a new battery setup for my ebike, at 48v 10AH, with this kit:

6 of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__26801__Turnigy_5000mAh_4S1P_14_8v_20C_hardcase_pack_UK_Warehouse_.html

One of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__29047__HobbyKing_ECO6_50W_5A_Balancer_Charger_w_accessories_UK_Warehouse_.html

One of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__44570__Hobbyking_Parallel_charging_Board_for_6_packs_2_6S_HXT4mm_UK_Warehouse_.html

one of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__45752__JST_XH_Parallel_Balance_Lead_4S_250mm_6xJST_XH_UK_Warehouse_.html?strSearch=4s%20jst-x

2 of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__34477__HXT_4mm_Gold_Connector_w_Pre_installed_Bullets_10pcs_set_UK_Warehouse_.html

1 of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-5A-60W-AC-DC-Adapter-Power-Powering-Supply-for-CCTV-Cameras-5-5mmx2-1mm-UK-/400536283570?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5d41d2a9b2

Is there anything else you guys can think of that I've overlooked? and will all that lot work together no problems?

Many thanks to rich43 (http://endless-sphere.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=33024) for helping me out with this list!

Personally, I'd use 6qty of these - http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__15521__Turnigy_5000mAh_4S1P_14_8v_20C_hardcase_pack.html - rather than 4qty 6S. Saves more than $50USD for the same capacity and the hardcase enclosure is nice improvement in protection and for arranging into bundle.

Chosen charger is extremely weak IMO. You'll be better served in the long run with more powerful charger and/or higher cell count.

You should get a CellLog 8M for quick checking or 8S if you use Windows PC and want to know what cell voltages are doing (sagging) during use?

Based on dealing with this stuff for several years, that's what I would do....

EDIT - Oops, see I already suggested the 4S hardpacks in your previous thread. Whatever....

Okay thanks :) I'll get 6 of these: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__26801__Turnigy_5000mAh_4S1P_14_8v_20C_hardcase_pack_UK_Warehouse_.html

from the UK warehouse*

I can always upgrade the charger when I get more cash though, right?

Love your 4s suggestion, I might go down that route myself. Epically cheap :) My lipo's are on their way out due to my abuse.

I didn't have any luck with the parallel charging board. Big spark and then I was too afraid to try again. Maybe others have had more luck.

Two of these would bring your charge time down to reasonable levels, but are more easily used with 6s batteries:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__12105__HobbyKing_ECO6_10_200W_10A_6S_Bal_Dis_Cyc_Charger_w_acc_.html

You would of course need a more substantial power supply too, and a used computer supply may be available locally.

Don't plan on running the chargers at the rated capacity routinely.

Do plan on a substantial case, even with the hard packs.

Best of luck!

Never plug batteries of differing states of charge into it, or batteries with different cell counts in to it either. i am pretty certain that one of those was the case. Edit: It might spark a little as it charges the capacitors in your charger.

You had packs still in series when you plugged in to the parallel board. How do I know? fried two of those things the same way myself. Man, did I feel extra dumb doing that second one.

You just have to get it right the first time, then stick to that routine.

Anyway, I'd rather get less of the packs than go with that complete piece of junk of a charger. At 50w You'll be up all night charging. Remember, no nodding off while they charge.

Get your budget right, to be able to charge at 200w minimum, and not one of the funky quad chargers eigher.

I guess you forgot to disconnect your series power connectors befor plugging in the balance leads to the board. we've all done it!

If you have an old PC power supply lying around, it's a two minute to to adapt it as a 12v power supply. It'll give higher current for faster charging.. The ones that you listed are not fantastically reliable, though OK for the money.

thanks guys :D what do you think of this charger?

I've not used that one, but don't forget that if you want to charge at 20 amps, you'll need a much more powerful (more expensive) power supply unless you adapt a PC or server one.

I haven't tried that one, but it is more like what I was suggesting. My personal setup has been two chargers of 150w each, which I run on a 350w meanwell power supply. I get 7amps charge rate, and I get a 700wh charge in about two hours.

Since falling asleep while you are charging the lico is so stupid, you don't want to take 14 hours to charge a 700wh pack. You don't have to sit there staring at that charger, but you can't leave the house, or have a cat nap while it's running.

okay thanks! So If i were to have them charging outside in a building that is made of steel and glass, with nothing else in it, would it be okay to leave them? like, doesnt the charger have an auto cutoff or anything? I've seen all the awful house fire stories so they will be stored there most of the time I think, I'd rather not have potential time bombs in my house. It doesn't get too cold so it shouldn't mess them up.

The charger should charge your batteries quite safely, without burning the shed down. But you want to be around, in case it does.

The big issue with RC lico is two things you might do wrong. The first is let the packs get damaged. A hole in a pack or even just a deep dent can set one off. The other, is you over discharge them. Then, even with the charger functioning safe, it's not safe to charge the pack at all anymore. So the pack might flame long before the charger shuts off. Any suspect pack needs to be charged in a place you'd build a fire. BBQ grills are popular, but a small table in the backyard can be fine if away from flammable items.

I always say, you want to be around, and have a plan what to do if your packs start smoking and stinking, or even flaming. My charger location is on a fireplace hearth. Smoke detector very close by. 2 feet away is my door to outside, and leaning against the wall there is a flat shovel. My emergency plan is to flip that hot pack out the door pronto. FWIW, the floor is cement if it takes a couple tries. The plan fails if you are nodded off in front of the tv with the late night talk show on when a pack goes off. Then all you can do is heave 120 pound dogs out the bedroom window and flee.

well i am going to be padding my hard case cells out very well so they are nice and safe, and as I say, I'll be charging them in a greenhouse away from the house, with nothing else in them, inside a big ass steel box, so I figure they should be pretty safe :) well I think I'll install a Low Voltage Cutoff, so that the backs will just shut down if it comes to it, I'd rather walk home/pay for a taxi with the bike than have to deal with messed up lipos.

I like your contingency plan, sounds pretty solid :)
